Hotels in Houhai Area, Beijing

I have to give this five stars! This hotel is built in a *hutong* (alleyway), but it doesn't affect vehicle access. It's a truly unique hotel with a very professional management system. The staff are all attentive, especially the security guard and the cleaning lady who provided incredibly thoughtful service. It was so comforting! This really made my trip to Beijing a great experience!

The Manxin Hotel is conveniently located in Nanluoguxiang, and our overall stay was quite pleasant. The room came with a capsule coffee machine, and upon check-in, we were immediately offered fruit. They also provided toothbrushes and slippers for the kids. At check-out, we even received a small gift – some Beijing snacks like Lvdagun, which were perfect for a quick bite after exploring the Forbidden City. The room had an 'Xiao Du' voice-controlled assistant, great for a lazy stay. Breakfast was decent, though perhaps we arrived a bit late, as the taste was just average. However, the Zhajiangmian at the noodle station was worth trying. The service overall was excellent, with staff being very proactive and enthusiastic. Some seemed a bit new and inexperienced, but their great attitude made up for it, so it was perfectly acceptable.

The hotel's location is excellent, very close to the Drum Tower, and just a ten-minute walk to Shichahai and Yinding Bridge. There are also plenty of creative shops, small boutiques, and restaurants nearby. The hotel's cleanliness and overall environment are superb, and the staff are incredibly warm and accommodating, always eager to help with any requests. We will definitely be back!

I booked this hotel online. When I was looking up information, I thought it was very close to Xidan. It turns out there's a road leading directly to Xidan from the hotel's intersection, but it's still about four or five subway stops from Xidan Subway Station. Plus, the hotel is located in an old Beijing hutong area, not directly on the main road, about 500 meters away from it. It's a bit far from the subway station, but there are bus stops nearby. They said it was close to Houhai, but I couldn't find it. It's generally in the Houhai area. The hotel is a small courtyard (siheyuan), clean and tidy, with the central courtyard serving as the main activity area. The guest rooms are small but have all the necessary amenities. Life is quite convenient, and the front desk staff provided thoughtful, warm, and attentive service. They even helped me send and receive mail. After walking about 500 meters out of the alley, you reach the main road, which is lined with shops, especially snack bars and convenience stores. There's a Qingfeng Steamed Dumpling shop and Yoshinoya, so dining is very convenient. And in Beijing's old city, the bus network is extensive, so even if you don't take the subway, getting around by bus in the old city is very convenient. I only stayed one night, and my trip was rushed, so I didn't take any photos.

Pro - good location, Guloudajie (鼓楼大街) station is just few minutes walks away (E North West exit) You can access subway Line 2 and 8 here, Line 8 can bring you to many tourist spots; there are a Lawson convenience store in the station, a local wet market (新民菜市场) across the big busy roads and a supermarket (喜友邻综合超市) when you turn right from the hotel's hutong; walk further down from the supermarket and you will find the McDonald's Con - terrible sound isolation; unfortunately we had noisy neighbors so we couldn't sleep well at night, there's a school nearby so you can expect some noise during school hours Con - we got a poorly maintained room - torn paper door, cracked tiles, chipped paints, old kettle; the heater wasn't doing a very good job so the bathroom was always cold (the central heating hadn't started during our visit), there was no fridge, no other beverages in the room except 2 bottles of drinking water; certain areas of the courtyard were rather messy and untidy There's a small parking lot big enough for cars to reverse out but beware that some taxi drivers may still refuse to drive up to the hotel entrance There are also occasional feline visitors, we sure love them, maybe not ideal if you're allergic

On my first day in Beijing, I took a taxi to the hotel. The entrance was a bit small and hidden, so I might have missed it without navigation. The hotel isn't big, but it's clean, which is good. I booked a twin room, and it was a bit small and cramped. The housekeeping staff was very friendly; our beds were always made when we returned from our outings. The hotel's location is quite convenient. If you want a taxi, you can just head downstairs. If not, the subway station (Lines 2 and 8, both transfer lines) is a five-minute walk away. There's also a bus stop nearby. This was my first time visiting Beijing in sub-zero temperatures, and it was a unique experience.

This guesthouse is a classic 'siheyuan' (courtyard house) with a lovely ambiance. The breakfast is excellent and plentiful. In the courtyard, you can see people playing chess, playing musical instruments, and enjoying tea. It had snowed the day before, making the scenery absolutely beautiful. It's close to all the nearby attractions. The only minor inconvenience is that it's located in a 'hutong' (alleyway), so you have to walk a bit, but it's a great way to experience old Beijing hutong life!

The room was clean and hygienic, and the bedding was neat and tidy. The service was excellent; they helped with luggage up and down the stairs, making for an easy check-in. The location is convenient, close to attractions, and the 270° garden view room comes with a small swing chair, perfect for families.

Choosing the right hotel when traveling with kids is so important! This place is simply amazing. They had children's picture books and small toys ready in the room beforehand, which kept my baby entertained from the moment we checked in. For breakfast, there were special kids' utensils, and the server even brought a small cake for my child. The hotel is only a 10-minute walk from the scenic area, and free parking is super convenient. The bathroom also has safety grab bars, which is a great relief for older family members traveling with children. The staff were incredibly patient with the kids, always greeting us with a smile. I'll definitely choose this hotel again for our next family trip with my parents!

Discovered another gem of a hotel! In Beijing, where land is incredibly precious, this hotel not only boasts a fantastic location—close to attractions like Shichahai, Bell and Drum Tower, and Nanluoguxiang, all within walking distance—but also offers a large parking lot. The rooms are clean, hygienic, and well-equipped. The staff are warm, welcoming, and attentive; they answer every question and handle every request, making our stay very comfortable. Plus, there are plenty of delicious local eateries nearby. The surrounding hutongs gave me a wonderful taste of authentic Beijing life and its vibrant atmosphere. Finally, a big thank you to the staff for arranging a late check-out for me!
