Hotels in Qasr El Nil, Cairo

The room was decent, pretty good. The ground floor was luxuriously decorated, especially the restrooms which were up to five-star standards. One thing to note is that the Wi-Fi requires you to refresh a website periodically, otherwise it keeps disconnecting. The staff were enthusiastic, and there were a few options for breakfast nearby.

There was a minor hiccup during check-in, as the room type I originally booked wasn't available. However, both the hotel and Ctrip customer service were very proactive in resolving the issue. Every staff member was incredibly kind, always greeting us with a smile when we returned to the hotel each day. The breakfast was plentiful and of high quality. The hotel's location is excellent, right next to the Old Egyptian Museum, offering a quiet retreat in a bustling area.

Upon arrival, I was informed that the room I booked was under maintenance and I would be transferred to another hotel within the same group. This seems to be a common scenario or 'trick' in Cairo travel, and given the general reliability issues in Egypt, I was skeptical. I originally booked this hotel because it was newly renovated and looked fresh and tidy. The hotel I was transferred to was very old, although clean, its facilities were much worse than the original hotel. The front desk staff member was very friendly, but told me the transfer was an upgrade from a single to a double room. However, upon entering the new room, I found it was still a single room. The hotel arranged a car to take me to the other hotel, which was only four minutes away. The driver they called was terrible; I waited twenty minutes to get in the car, and then the driver couldn't find the place and drove past it. I ended up having to walk to the hotel myself. Overall, this incident delayed my trip by over an hour.

The hotel's environment and location are great. It takes less than 10 minutes to walk to the Old Egyptian Museum. However, when checking into the hotel, they charged my card at the coffee shop, which I found a bit odd... It essentially increased the room rate, which isn't very fair. Two nights for $580, and at that price, breakfast isn't even included. That's excessive!

The location is fantastic, less than a hundred meters from Tahrir Square in Cairo. It's super convenient for food, drinks, and entertainment. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, and it's lively at night, but our room, being in an alley, wasn't noisy at all. The environment is great, and surprisingly, the room even had a fridge, microwave, and washing machine. For this area, the value for money is absolutely amazing!

Good hotel, great location. The breakfast staff in the morning were great and attentive. Always served us very well. The reception and hosuekeeping staff need to improve their attentiveness. For example, we had to call housekeeping to remind them on several occasions as they hadn't turned up when they were supposed to, and inconsistent standard of housekeeping was also an issue. Secondly, the checkin staff didn't mention that for charges to be added to the room bill, a deposit was required. We weren't aware of this and were told by restaurant staff. When we raised these complaints on checkout, they offered an apology and a free hot drink.

The hotel has a good location, close to Liberation Square, and next to what appears to be an embassy; security was tight, with many police officers, which gave a sense of security. The hotel facilities are rather old, equivalent to an established four-star hotel in a first-tier city in China, with 80% of the room price attributed to the Nile River view. The service was excellent, warm and attentive; the doorman, a brown Labrador, was adorable and friendly. The breakfast was decent, a mix of Western and Egyptian elements; overall, it was good and worth the price in Egypt.

The front desk staff's English was excellent, allowing for fluent communication. They were also very enthusiastic about helping me exchange Egyptian pounds and recommended local specialty restaurants. When they found out I hadn't bought a SIM card, they even looked up a SIM card seller on Google Maps for me.
