"We had a pleasant stay at Oriental Express Fukuoka Nakasu Kawabata hotel. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the location is excellent, making it easy to explore the area. However, we were concerned about the layout of our room. There is a step immediately after entering, which creates a hazardous situation—the bed and bathroom are located above the step, while the sink is below. We tripped a couple of times during our stay, and the step makes it difficult to manage luggage safely. It’s something the hotel might want to address for guest safety. Overall, a good stay with a small but important safety issue in our room."

"I was very satisfied with the hotel room overall — it was clean, comfortable, and the staff were very kind. The hotel also provides a microwave, which is convenient for heating food. Towels can be replaced daily, and they are placed in front of the room door. However, only one hand towel and one bath towel are provided each day. I would like to make one small suggestion: there are no signs or instructions in Chinese. Currently, the hotel provides information in Japanese, English, and Korean, but not in Chinese, which can be a bit inconvenient for Chinese guests. If Chinese translations could be added, it would make the stay even more comfortable for many visitors."

"This new hotel is conveniently located a short walk from Hakata Station and is spotlessly clean. The complimentary breakfast was excellent. What truly impressed us was the spacious and inviting lobby area right as you enter, perfect for relaxing, dining, or socializing. They thoughtfully provide complimentary beverages like iced water, coffee, and tea. Additionally, there's a well-equipped communal kitchen with cooking utensils and an induction hob, which is a fantastic perk for guests who wish to prepare their own meals. This entire setup truly makes you feel comfortable and at home, rather than in a typical hotel setting. The front desk staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. It definitely stands out as a top-tier choice among hotels in its category. Highly recommended!"

"The room was more spacious than expected with the huge king size bed which occupied the whole room, but still there was a space for a small table and two-seater sofa for tea and a quick desk work job. As the hotel was surrounded by nice cafes and restaurants, I had no trouble using my PC outside. Checking-out was automated and smooth. English speaking staff were very helpful but minimum. And the roof top baths (in and outside) were relaxing. There were coin operated laundry, microwave as if designed for long staying residents but no space for serious work or relaxing dining/tea space. Yet, the room rate was so good, I will definately stay again here."

"We stayed as a family of four in a room with four beds for one night, and it was a great experience. The location is excellent — just a few minutes’ walk from the train station once you exit, with convenient stores nearby. The hotel sits at the beginning/end of the Tenjin area, making it perfect for food, shopping, and exploring. What we loved most was that it’s surrounded by several Yatai stalls. When we first arrived in Fukuoka, we stayed in the Hakata area and had trouble finding Yatai. Staying here made it so easy to enjoy the Yatai vibes, even though the food is similar across stalls. Highly recommend staying in this area instead if Yatai is what you’re looking for! Service at the hotel was very good — staff were kind and helpful, from assisting with luggage storage to helping us call a taxi in the morning. The hotel also has a small spa room, though it can get quite crowded. There’s a self-service laundry room too, costing about 100–300 yen for wash and dry, which is very convenient. The room was comfortable with cold air-conditioning, cosy blankets, and a dehumidifier/air purifier provided. Everything was just right for a good night’s sleep. Overall, a pleasant and convenient stay — great location and helpful staff. Would recommend!"

"The location is super convenient, just 200 meters from the train station. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to Tenjin-Minami, and you can easily walk to Canal City Hakata in under 15 minutes. There are lots of convenience stores and supermarkets nearby, so you don't have to worry about finding food even if you come back late. This is a typical Japanese hotel – small but well-designed. A 21-square-meter room is actually quite spacious here!"

"Extremely satisfied! The location is super convenient, right by the canal. The hotel's design is unique and the service is excellent. They offer a complimentary all-day buffet, so every time you come back to the hotel, you can grab a bite – it really makes you feel at home. The hygiene is also top-notch. In the evenings, there are local-style izakaya street stalls by the canal."

"This hotel boasts a fantastic location. There's a subway station right outside the entrance with a direct line to the airport, and it's only three stops to Hakata. Tenjin shopping district is just a ten-minute walk away, making it a quiet oasis in a bustling area. Maizuru Park and Fukuoka Art Museum are also within easy walking distance. If you walk a bit further to the right, there's a large lotus pond that's beautiful in the summer. It's also super convenient for visiting the Yatai (food stalls) in Tenjin at night. Across the street, there's a big supermarket with an amazing selection of bento boxes, plus a 7-Eleven and Lawson nearby that I visited every night. The hotel itself feels new and impressive, with a spacious lobby on the second floor. The rooms are cozy and tastefully decorated, though a bit on the small side, which is typical for Japanese hotels – it was hard to fully open two suitcases. However, the bathroom was surprisingly large, a rare find in urban Japan. They even provide DHC toiletries. Hotels in Fukuoka can get quite expensive on weekends, but this one still offers great value for money. Overall, I'm very satisfied and would definitely choose to stay here again on my next visit."

"The hotel is only four stops from Fukuoka Airport, and it's just a few minutes' walk after you exit the station. Next door is the original Ichiran Ramen, and seriously, every time I pass by, I see a huge line of people! 😅 There are also yatai (food stalls) open nearby in the evening, so the location is great, very close to Tenjin and Hakata. The hotel rooms are a bit small and cramped. However, the large public bath on the top floor is a nice touch; you can relax and soak there every day after coming back. The breakfast has some unique local flavors, worth trying. It's also very quiet at night, which is great for rest."

MMiduoduoqiaoqiaoGate Hotel boasts a fantastic location in Fukuoka's Tenjin shopping district. It's within a 10-minute walk of Parco, Iwataya, Mitsukoshi, Nishitetsu, Bic Camera, Loft, and Daimaru Department Store. Plus, there's a drugstore on B1 and the subway airport line on B2, making transportation incredibly convenient, even for getting to Hakata. The rooms are quite new and the facilities are fine, though they are a bit small; a 28-inch suitcase can't fully open in the aisle. The hotel offers afternoon tea starting at 2 PM on the 18th floor, with drinks like coffee and matcha, and snacks such as mentaiko senbei (shrimp crackers) and cakes. The view is excellent and very photogenic, offering a panoramic look at Fukuoka's architecture. All in all, it offers good value for money and is perfect for anyone exploring Fukuoka.

GGuest UserRoom is very clean and smells great however they are really tiny rooms for large luggage but we managed to make do with it. It is well located, right outside Hakata station, and with 4 pieces of luggage, it's perfect for us as we don't have to worry about how to transport them to the hotel. The staff are well trained and polite. Rooms have heated seats, heated mirror and room service will top up all amenities everyday. Very impressed with it.

AAnonymous UserThe hotel is quite close to Hakata Station, about a 7-10 minute walk from the Chikushi Exit or Chikushi Side Exit. There's a convenience store just to the left when you exit the hotel. Most of the dining options are closer to the station; the famous Hakata ramen was much too salty for my taste. The hotel's exterior and reception lobby are spacious and impressive. Due to an issue with our room type reservation, the front desk attendant on duty that day patiently and thoroughly explained the situation with a friendly attitude. For a hotel in Japan, the room size was decent; we could lay out two suitcases, one large and one small. The hotel is well-maintained and clean, and they provide two complimentary bottles of mineral water. The double bed was quite small (definitely not 1.5 meters, probably around 1.3 meters). My biggest frustration was with the showerhead; due to water pressure issues, it constantly pointed to one side, making it very difficult to control the spray direction.

GGuest UserThe hotel is technically in between 3 subway stations — Hakata (7 - 8 mins walk), Gion (7 - 8 mins walk), and Kushida Shrine (2 mins walk) — and also located conveniently near Canal City Hakata shopping mall, Kushida shrine, and many stores and restaurants nearby. The cleanliness of the hotel overall was good but a little less positive for the room itself, as some parts of the washroom’s privacy blinds looked like they aren’t cleaned regularly and edges of the room’s carpet were often not cleaned well (wearing slippers in the room and not touching the privacy blinds easily mitigates these concerns). A personal issue and warning for taller guests would be that the position of the toilet in the narrow bathroom (at least for the ‘cozy double’ room) requires users to face a section of the wall quite closely when seated, which would likely be uncomfortable/ impossible for people taller than 175 cm to use while sitting down (the attached photo is taken with a 0.6x camera lens). The air conditioning for the rooms was shared by a central air system which cooled the rooms well, but it is worth noting for those with sensitive noses that there was a very faint but noticeable odour of old cigarette smoke in the room despite the current no-smoke policy. The coin laundry room is very small with only 1 washing machine, 1 dryer, and 1 hybrid washer-dryer machine (also, no coin exchange machine is present), so I recommend washing mid-day or in the early evening if possible. The front desk receptionists and cleaning staff were kind and approachable (in both English and Japanese), the check-in and check-out processes were smooth, and the hotel did offer free luggage storage services after check-out. Overall, an enjoyable and budget-friendly stay.

AAnonymous UserLike all the other reviews here, Forza’s location can’t be beaten. Its literally less than 1 min walk from the airport bus stop. The popular Hakata Station is also within a minute walk. The location alone earns the hotel a 5 star. Checking in and out of hotel was also an ease. The staff at the counter was helpful and friendly. A bag of toiletries was also prepared for my 8 yr old with kiddy slippers, which was much appreciated. The room was decent size, we chose the 豪華雙人房 (19 sq m I think?) with a mini couch area – perfect for backpacks, a window, and a portable massage mat. I loved the magnets that we can stick to the door to let the cleaners know whether or not our room needs to be cleaned. What’s more is that there is an option to choose “Take out trash and change towels only”. This is a really thoughtful option, because we really don’t need our room to be made up every day. And it’s perfect that we can just have the trash taken out and towels changed. I was a bit nervous about the cleanliness of the hotel rooms after reading some of the reviews on here, especially when I have a kid with me. I don’t want her to get sick from the germs in the room. But to my surprise, the room was quite decent, atleast I didn’t see any visible dustballs or dirty air con ventilators. Maybe because the hotel already took action to clean all the rooms and air con vents after reading some of the reviews here about dirty air con vents? I took a photo of our room air con vents for parents to take a look =) The air purifier in the room was also very comforting. We stayed in Forza for 6 days and none of us got sick =D For the first 2 days, I did smell a bit of a urine smell when you kneel close to the carpet/toilet. It was a slight faint smell. By the 3rd day, there wasn’t much noticeable smell anymore, not sure if it was the air purifier that helped or if we got use to it. Hahaha. On one of the nights that we returned to the hotel, we noticed that the cleaners had forgotten to put a trash bag back into the trash can. So I called reception and told them. The suited man that came with a trash bag didn’t seem too friendly. He looked like he either didn’t want to be there, didn’t know what he needed to do, or that we are trying to cheat him of a plastic bag. Anyway, I had to explain that I need a trash bag because I didn’t want to make the trash can dirty. I even had to SHOW him the trash can to convince him why I needed a bag. When he finally saw the empty trash can, he gave us a plastic bag, and left an extra one inside the trash can. He didn’t seem too pleased that I was trying to help protect the hotel’s assets, he just looks as if I disturbed his night. The shower head took some time to get use to too. Normally shower heads will be placed at a slight angle, but the shower heads in our room shoots straight at a 90 degree angle, which was quite hard to use coz the water will be shooting directly at your chest, and you would need to kneel down a bit to wash your hair, otherwise you would need to hold the shower head with one hand, while washing with the other hand. It’s a bit hard to explain, so I took some photos to show. But you will know what I mean when you stay at the hotel. Anyway, overall the stay was still very pleasant. I will definitely choose Forza again the next time I visit Fukuoka. Thank you Forza.

WWariyukiThe hotel is decent and clean. It doesn’t provide any free coffee in the room or lobby. It also doesn’t have any bath tub or public bath. Overall it’s a pleasant stay there. Located right next to the Yanagibashi Rengo market, you can enjoy the fresh sashimi, sushi and other food at the market. There are a number of buses that take you from the Hakata bus station to the hotel, it’s actually very convenient too.

MMiyu BirdiePersonal opinion as a female Asian traveler. Location: 20 mins walk from Hakata station. 4 mins walk to Gion bus stop or canal city bus stop, both go to Hakata station in around 10 mins. Also, 15 mins walk to Kawabata Shopping Arcade and Canal CityHakata. There are not many restaurants nearby, only convenient stores around the area. Better eat before returning to the hotel. There is a MaxValu Express (open for 24 hrs, 2 levels: 1st floor drugsstore and B1 supermarket) 4 mins walk from the hotel. Great option for late night snacks, drinks, daily necessities, and tax-free shopping. Room: small and a bit old, cleanliness ok, no bath tub only shower stall. Shower water is not hot enough. Very poor sound insulation (recommended to use earplugs when sleepping. Provided on 1st floor of hotel). You can hear almost every single activity happening next door(literally meaning). Light switches far away from bed, which is a bit inconvenient. Front desk: it is an unmanned hotel. Self check-in via smartphone prior (utilizing the QR code) or via computer on 1st floor. Self check-out via tablet provided inside the room or computer on 1st floor. Using password to enter room. There is a female staff member in the lobby area in the morning if needed help for anything. She doesn't speak much English but is very friendly and willing to help. Also, you can text the hotel staff member for assistance if needed via the room tablet provided. They reply quickly. Amenities: self-service, self luggage storage, only basic items provided. There is no ice maker and only 1 laundry machine on the 1st floor (always being occupied). All in all, Pros: though the hotel is unmanned, I find it pretty chill, easy and efficient as long as you figure out how things work (not hard at all, perhaps more accessible for younger visitors). Cons: You really have to lower your expectations for everything else. I personally feel it is more like a hostel than a hotel. But considering it is the Hakata area and with this affortable price, can't murmur.

IInchThe hotel is about a 15-minute walk from Hakata Station and easy to find, with a Matsuya restaurant conveniently located diagonally opposite. A washing machine is also available on the second floor. Room facilities are decent. However, it seems the duvet covers aren't changed, which is a significant hygiene concern!
