I enjoyed visiting the temple of heaven, the park it is situated in is gorgeous and has such a friendly relaxing vibe. The temple itself was stunning; but the experience was slightly ruined by how busy it was, and there were lots of people on sight approaching us and trying to sell things such as photo opportunities and gifts which made the visit a little stressful, it was also incredibly crowded around the main temple with lots of people pushing. After visiting the temple, we walked to one of the flower gardens which was absolutely gorgeous and relaxing, perfect to decompress after the big crowd.HK$21

This stay at the Sofitel Jian Guo Men left me with a great overall impression.
Before arriving, I communicated with the duty manager, Eli, letting him know it was our first stay and that it coincided with our anniversary. Upon check-in, he immediately upgraded us to an Executive Floor room and had it specially decorated. The attention to detail was exceptional, and we were incredibly impressed from the moment we arrived.
The first impression upon entering was excellent. The lobby had incredibly high ceilings and a grand, bright decor, completely avoiding the oppressive feeling you sometimes get in older hotels.
The layout of the Executive Room was also quite interesting; it wasn't just a generic square box. The space was well-utilized, making it feel much more spacious than I had imagined.
The service overall was hassle-free. Whether it was dealing with the front desk or requesting room service, any issues were addressed very quickly, with no need for back-and-forth.
In the evening, I specifically went to the bar on the basement level. The bartender, Pamper, was very amiable. She asked about my preferred tastes, and the cocktails she made were perfectly to my liking.

I drove to Beijing, and since out-of-town cars can't enter the Second Ring Road, I chose this hotel on the Third Ring Road. It's a very old hotel; the room facilities are basically from the 1980s. The worst part was the bed – the kind where if one person turns over, the whole family gets woken up, which meant I didn't sleep well all night.
As for the service, it was very poor. Trip.com advertised free ice cream and a 15% discount, but neither was available when I arrived. The front desk said there was no ice cream because the weather was cold. The counter staff said I could have biscuits instead and that while the 15% discount wasn't available, a 5% discount was. However, when checking out, I was told it was full price, with the explanation that the discount was only for August. I then asked why it was still advertised as a free gift if it wasn't available, which was speechless. This issue delayed my trip by half an hour. Eventually, the lobby manager came and gave me a box of biscuits, and that was the end of it. I just want to say that if an activity isn't available, it shouldn't be advertised. Before booking, I read the negative reviews, which were mostly complaints about the service. After staying, I felt like this hotel was one giant obedience test.
Upon entering the room, I noticed a strong smell from the air conditioning ducts. I picked up the phone and dialed 'one touch.' The operator transferred me to the front desk, who said they would get back to me shortly. 'Shortly' meant I had to call again to get any kind of answer.
After changing rooms, the next day my room card stopped working. That's when I understood why there was a phone in the hallway. After calling, they said an auntie would come to help open the door. Ten minutes later, the auntie finally arrived. After opening the door, she said a concierge would bring a new room card later. Well, it never arrived within two hours. Eventually, when I went to pick up my takeout, I had to go to the front desk myself to get a new one.
The tissues in the room ran out. The auntie replaced them with new ones, but just left the new pack on top of the tissue box instead of putting them inside. I don't understand that.
There was a short black hair in the bathtub...
The mini-bar was completely empty on the first night, possibly due to the room change.
At breakfast, I opened a Chinese steamed dim sum, and there was a black hair inside... Breakfast ended at 10:30 AM, and many guests came at 10:35 AM to get coffee, but it was all gone...FromHK$876

The attendants at the front desk were incredibly helpful, especially the one guy who helped me order on dianping and put together a porridge the Beijing way. The gym was the best I've ever seen in a hotel. Stacked with equipment for strength training with a separate room for martial arts training. You can take bus 101 directly to the Temple of Heaven, and it's also within walking distance to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, not too far. The only downside is that the bathtub 🛁 is too small, and the water temperature fluctuates between cold and hot, and the water pressure is quite low. I honestly don’t understand how anyone could leave a bad review for this hotel. The staff took such great care of me throughout my stay. The location is excellent, very close to the metro and many of Beijing’s main tourist attractions.

The last picture shows the very bad gym staff member who was playing on his phone in the changing room, a place where people are naked and where there are signs prohibiting phone use. When I tried to get his attention, he ignored me. This person also ignored guests at the front desk when checking in and out, not even greeting them. When I returned my wristband, he just kept his head down doing his own thing. It was a lady next to him who, seeing his lack of response, rather awkwardly took the wristband from me. Regular training should resolve this issue. Otherwise, it's a hotel with great value for money. The front desk staff was fantastic, patiently explaining various issues and even upgraded my room. A surprisingly wonderful trip! I arrived at the hotel late at night, feeling exhausted. The gentleman at the front desk, wearing glasses, was incredibly professional and efficient. He quickly checked me in and even upgraded my room. He thoughtfully provided extra bottled water, which really shows how well-trained the hotel staff are.

1. The hotel is nestled halfway up the mountain, offering fresh air and truly beautiful surroundings. It's a peaceful escape from the city's hustle and bustle, and the hotel's decor and maintenance are quite good. Our butler, Bella, was incredibly meticulous and thoughtful, taking care of every little detail. She met all our needs, making our stay exceptionally comfortable.
2. There's a wide array of facilities and activities, including a mountainside hot spring, indoor pool, Hatha yoga, singing bowl therapy, a gym, and a kids' club. It's perfect for families, and the kids' club is large and newly renovated – it just reopened in May. It's definitely more fun than the kids' clubs at other hotels I've visited. Plus, children aged 4 and up can be supervised for free, which made my little one super happy!
3. The room key card came with a park map, showing hiking trails. There's an easy 5-kilometer mountain boardwalk, perfect for families, where you can visit the Eight Planets viewing platforms.
4. The breakfast was impressive! They had steaks, lamb chops, and a rich variety of both Chinese and Western dishes. However, the cured meats were generally a bit too salty.
Cons:
1. For a 5-star hotel, there was no safe in the room.
2. While there's an abundance of kids' activities, most of them come with a fee.

1. The hotel is conveniently located near the entrance to Simatai Great Wall. It's easy to access the Wall for hiking, and you can also enjoy views of it from the second floor of the room. The Wall is visible in the distance from the window, making it a secluded retreat away from the hustle and bustle.
2. The hotel offers excellent service. Housekeeping is prompt, and the staff are attentive and welcoming.
3. The duplex suite A is very spacious, perfect for families with elderly members and children. Kids, especially, will love rolling and crawling on the tatami mat.
4. Slippers and bath towels are replaced daily, and complimentary fruit is provided every day.
5. After checking out, I left my headphones in the room. The hotel proactively contacted me and arranged for them to be couriered to me, which I truly appreciate.
Cons:
1. The room is very inconvenient for elderly guests with mobility issues. The main bed is on the second floor, making it difficult for them to go up and down. The first floor has a tatami mat, which makes it hard for elderly guests to get up and lie down. If they need to get up at night, they would definitely need assistance.
2. While the room is large, whether the Japanese wabi-sabi style truly suits Chinese guests, especially for a hotel charging 5,000 yuan per night, is a question that needs consideration. The wabi-sabi aesthetic often translates to very sparse furnishings: no comfortable sofas, no bedside tables, no bedside lamps, and certainly no central control panel for all lights and appliances. The tatami mat essentially means sleeping on the floor with a low table, making it very inconvenient and challenging to get up, sit down, or place and retrieve items, which clashes with Chinese living habits.
3. The private hot spring bath in the room only has one switch for hot water, making it impossible to adjust the temperature. Its size is also awkward; it's fine for one person, but feels cramped for two. For a room type designed for six people, such a small bath is quite inconvenient. Furthermore, the inner wall of the bath is made of solid wood, raising concerns about hygiene.
4. The smart toilet was broken and remained unrepaired even after reporting it.
5. The two bedrooms on the second floor, designed to accommodate at least four people, share a single small bathroom, which is a very impractical design.
Additionally, the entire Gubei Water Town is not suitable for elderly visitors with mobility issues, especially those in wheelchairs. The flagstone paths are very uneven, and there are many steps, which would make a wheelchair ride extremely bumpy and uncomfortable.FromHK$2,068
