The Bear Inn ★★★

📍 The Bear Inn Wirksworth Road, Belper

"Something is off with the food. Chips tasted strange. At first glance the presentation looked as normal as before but on first bite I started having a stomachache. The chips looked like freshly cut wedges but tasted really bad and the food wasn’t great. In the old days the bear inn had great chefs and you could tell. They need to change the cook. It takes one disappointing meal and people just won’t go again."

Makeney Hall Hotel ★★★★
"Beautiful old building and gardens but unfortunately it’s not well maintained. The older rooms are good sizes but tatty, we had cobwebs and dust in the bathroom plus mildew on bedroom and bathroom windows. However the linen was lovely quality and it wąs quiet and warm for an older building. We won’t be returning."

The Bear Inn ★★★
"We held our wedding evening do at The Bear Inn in November 2024. The team were absolutely brilliant, nothing was too much for them they even sorted the DJ and cake for us and had the room decorated for our arrival. The Hog roast was amazing, I’m still receiving compliments on the food now. All completely affordable! Some of the family stayed overnight and we had breakfast in the morning which was absolutely delicious. We’ve since been back for dinner and the food was amazing yet again. Will continue to recommend them for food and a venue for events to anyone who asks!"

The Lion Hotel ★★★
"Rooms next door to each other were great, but noise from  kitchen blowers or something all night. Food excellent. Friendly staff."
