Before I begin, the reviews prior to mine about bad management is similar to what I experienced. Having intended to stay at this hotel for my entire vacation, it was abruptly ended after one night. Upon arriving to the room, the bathroom was dated. It looks like it is from the 80s, the shower specifically. The grout had black substance on it too. Also, forget complimentary water at this facility. I was rudely told by one of the managers that this “service” is not offered. After back and forth they brought us two tiny water bottles. To make matters worse, at night there was an alarm that went off at 3am. All hotel patrons exited the hotel. Staff was unable to confirm what caused the alarm to go off while we were there. Feeling unsafe we checked out and went to a different hotel. It took us 3 days to get in touch with anyone that would assist us. The front managers first told us they would speak at 9:30am, then 12pm and then they said the manager was unavailable rest of the day. If safety is number one priority, you would treat guests as such. Finally after three days of calling, a manager offered to compensate us for the one night. I have yet to see this reflected on my credit card! I am sure they will reply that safety is number one priority, however, it did not appear as such during my stay. As a Gold Elite member, I have stayed at many Marriott properties but have never experienced such a horrendous experience. Do better.

Staff at the front desk was a bit dismissive and parking costs $20/night. Breakfast not included but there’s a restaurant on site. Pros: - great location, close to attractions, restaurants, shops - Wifi works well - rooms are relatively clean however I found a few hairs here and there - rooms are spacious enough - Check-in is at 4pm officially but our room was ready at 2pm so we could check in - mini fridge in room - the hotel is nicely furnished and decorated - 24-hour fitness center - 2 complimentary bottles of water - Coffee machine in the room Cons: - staff at the front desk could’ve been friendlier - bed too soft and pillows too thick - A/C didn’t work properly—the room was either ice cold or hot

Finally an updated Hilton property downtown Charleston that fits the budget for business trips. Location is ideal on Meeting & only 2 blocks from King St. Entire property is newly renovated which puts it above Hampton Inn and Embassy Suites in my book. Valet parking available. Staff was super friendly. I didn’t eat a meal on site so I cannot comment on food. Who wants to eat at a hotel when you’re in Charleston? :) Would definitely recommend this property.

There are more breakfasts and meals, but the hotel staff is very warm and thoughtful. After the breakfast meal is over, ask for it and come back to face the meal after the meal. My car key was lost on the hotel sofa, and the front desk ***o and Damelle found it and kept it for the customer. The front desk staff patiently helped you change rooms. Parking is not sufficient for the occupants. Late night, the hotel has to park at the surrounding banks and have to move in the morning.

Though the hotel itself needed some updating the staff was extremely helpful. I forgot my toiletries bag as well as hair gel. Oliva and Madison at the front desk were able to get me everything I needed quickly. I was in for business meetings so these two saved the day and allowed me to make my meetings on time. They also called into a local restaurant they recommend and were able to secure a reservation for my customers and I on the day of. Everyone enjoyed the recommendation. I will be back thanks to these two and their hospitality. Great location!

The room was clean and in good shape. My problem was we were not able to close the black out curtains and a bright street light shone in. The room had no view except for the air conditioning units. This disturbed our sleep all night. The food was good but a bit pricey. The service was good and the staff that we met were friendly. Over all I probably would stay here again, but ask for a better room.
Barksdale House Inn
4.5/5100 Reviews
The Barksdale House Inn is our go to place to stay for our anniversary trips to Charleston. There's coffee, tea, bottled water, and plenty of snacks (even Moon Pies!) available 24/7, and, with a little fridge in the room, we're home! We spent 3 nights, so got to have 3 of Annie's breakfasts and they were always great (Annie is also the manager). Parker checked us in, and was there on most days doing an excellent job, and served us breakfast 2 mornings. The Barksdale's location is perfect, whether you're visiting the College of Charleston or just visiting the historic district - easy to walk everywhere, and super convient to the Green and Orange Lines of the CARTA free bus route for the histroric distric, so no car is needed. The Barksdale House is a special place to stay with special people working there, and we highly recommend it, especially for couples!
