TxjemI had a wonderful experience here at Cafe&Stay Castana. The room was clean and comfortable, a great find at this price! The location is great with a free parking lot available, and with a huge supermarket conveniently located beside. However, I have to especially commend the staff, they were so friendly and accommodating to our needs! As you know, sometimes travellers are disoriented and stressed, and their willingness to help is deeply appreciated. I also had to ask for directions to a doctor as I fell sick, and they went above and beyond to take care of me. I could have only experienced this humanity at a small enterprise like this, and am very grateful.

Anonymous UserI stayed here for 4 days. It was really nice that the staff can remember my name even they don’t have too. It means that they really pay attention to the guest not only the name but also food allergies as well. I was really satisfied with the hotel staff and service. The hotel itself is really peaceful and the food is so amazing. Highly recommended 🥳

ZatanIf you're coming to Matsumoto and looking for a place with free onsen, this is it! It's very close to the station, the price is reasonable, and the breakfast is delicious. They offer free luggage storage, ice, microwaves, and laundry services on multiple floors.

TxjemI really loved my time at Park Lodge Kamikochi, it was truly magical and I can’t believe our luck in finding this place. Location is great, very near to the bus terminal and starting point for many treks. The main areas and the rooms were simple, well-designed and very comfortable. Although note that there is no air conditioning in the room as the weather is already cool. The food was the best part, a delicious variety of offerings, including a live grill! My friends and I were amazed and felt like we got great value and experience out of this stay. The staff were mostly friendly, but we were once suspected of trespassing the premises. However, it was one-off and not a problem as they might experience non-guests entering. Overall, a fantastic experience that I highly recommend.

Guest UserThe location is unbeatable! It's just 200 meters to the right after exiting the station. Remember to book your free onsen experience at Shofukan in the evening. Although Shofukan only offers one large pool, it's more than enough, especially since the hotel provides it for free. Plus, there's complimentary coffee and drinks on the first floor. The breakfast is a bit simple, but then again, it's free.

Guest UserThe staff are polite but not overly friendly and warm like others. The free breakfast is a long queue and Japanese are cooperative always to queue and finish their breakfast quickly so that others can have their breakfast asap. Literally probably only 3 mins walk to JR station and the bus terminal. Just realised on the trip is way cheaper to take highway bus to Osaka/Shin Osaka.

I enjoyed my stay in this hotel . The room is a traditional Japanese tatami room, very spacious for 2 persons with a balcony facing the river and the mountain. Room is just as shown in the photos.
The front office staff are very helpful and friendly. They do speak abit of English. Breakfast and dinner were included . Dinner was multi course Japanese meal using seasonal produce . Do advise the hotel a few days in advance if you have any food preferences as they will try to accommodate. Meals very lovely presented . I stayed here 2 nights and dinner menu was different for each night . Hotel is about 20 to 25 min walk from the bus terminal. Best to pack a hand carry bag instead of a trolley bag as certain part of the trail to the hotel is unpaved and muddy after rain .
Or check with the hotel for luggage delivery service Hotel also has a 24 hrs indoor and outdoor onsen ! Spacious and well maintained.

The room is a bit like a small house in Tokyo, it is still crowded! The twin room is a twin room with a bunk bed, and the lower one will be bigger, the upper bunk will be a little narrower, but the bed is still very comfortable overall, and sleeps very well! Breakfast is free, starting at 6:30 in the morning, winter is different from summer, and the store notice shall prevail. But the price/performance ratio really has nothing to say. Is it a night of sleep or recommended 😃 also self-check in and then the room door lock password will be printed on a piece of paper, which is more convenient. The station is about 5 minutes away, it is still very close.

Honestly, I can't praise this place enough.
The owners are a really lovely couple; very welcoming and extremely helpful. The rooms are great - plenty of space and all the amenities you need for a short stay. The onsen is just the best - it's a private one that you can lock the door to and have to yourself for as long as you can cope with the hot water!
But the *food* - wow! The food is absolutely fantastic and expertly cooked. Honestly, I've eaten in Michelin starred restaurants with food that wasn't as good as this. On top of that, at our first evening meal, we found that the message hadn't been relayed about my wife being a pescatarian. Anywhere else that might have been a problem, but within twenty-five minutes an entire new fish meal had been prepared and served - and was absolutely amazing. We were SO impressed.
Also, what a truly beautiful location. Oh yes, and they have *monkeys*!! They wandered past the property in the evening and wandered back the next morning.
I'm trying to name anything negative and I honestly can't - the closest thing I can think of is that the property is hard to locate and you definitely need a car to get there, but if you can get there, do - it was one of two equal-best places we've stayed at in Japan.
Thank you to the owners (sorry, I never asked your names) for a wonderful stay in your home.
