Hot Spring Hotels in Matsumoto

Kamikochi is magical, and Alpen helps make it even more so! Location is very good, near by the bus station but far enough from the maddening crowd at the bridge! And the hotel is on high ground making it a good spot to observe the trekking crowd. The reception staff are more than friendly and helpful, and we had good conversations with Kaori and Izumo. Room has a good view of the mountain and is a good size. Dinner is very good with much local produce used and the appetisers are interesting and delicious! Wonderful!

Our stay at Poetical was truly one of the most memorable experiences of our trip in Japan. From the peaceful atmosphere surrounded by beautiful nature to the warm hospitality of the owner, everything felt so special and heartfelt. My husband and I were deeply touched by the kindness and care we received throughout our stay. The homemade meals were absolutely delicious, every dish was prepared with so much love and attention, making us feel completely at home. Thank you for creating such a beautiful place filled with warmth, comfort, and unforgettable memories. We already miss Poetical and hope to come back again in winter to see this lovely place covered in snow ❄️

It’s about a 10‑minute walk straight from the station to Dormy Hotel. Getting to Matsumoto Castle or the Art museum from the hotel is really convenient, and there are plenty of restaurants around. I had more luggage this time, and the hotel staff kindly helped me bring it up to my room. Both the breakfast and the late‑night snacks were pretty good. I highly recommend this hotel.

Lived the best hotel in Japan. The place is small, but the layout is exquisite. Careful staff service. Carry your luggage to the room and explain each dish of dinner carefully. Indoor hot springs are arranged for men and women to change the hot spring room. Try two different arrangements. Dinner and breakfast are super good. The room was also very clean and comfortable. Especially recommended.

The environment is very comfortable, the room is clean and cozy, and the hotel staff are attentive and polite. The meals are unique and delicious, with generous portions. Plus, you can enjoy the outdoor hot springs. It was a fantastic stay.

It may be a little far away from Matsumoto Station but its definitely worth the effort! The most affordable and Japanese quality accommodation! Great Japanese breakfast and dinner, can upgrade to shinchu beef which is a MUST!! The beef just melts in the mouth. The onsen is great and clean. The single room is really big and thats the view in the 3rd photo from the room. The souvenir shop is awesome! Its sells some great product like honey which i cant find at the souvenir shop at Matsumoto station. There is a mini concert at times at the hotel which sings Japanese folk or country songs. It is a hotel that caters to mainly Japanese locals where the reception cant speak English but are super friendly and willing to communicate through translation apps. Awesome place! Definitely coming back again!

Outdoor temperature was around –3°C, but the ryokan felt even colder because some sections were open to the outdoors. The walkway from the rooms to the onsen is uncovered, so there’s no way to avoid the cold. I had to wear my winter jacket just to walk to the public bath. There is a private bath option, but the one assigned to me was far too hot — I couldn’t even step into the water. The public bath is a very small indoor pool, probably suitable for 2–3 people at most. There is no shower in the room, so using the public bath is unavoidable. The room itself was very cold. On top of that, I had to carry my own 25-inch luggage up three floors as there is no lift, so this place is not suitable if you can’t manage your own luggage. Dinner was disappointing — just soba and a simple soup with pork and some vegetables and mushrooms.

The room is small, but there is everything. First class service. The meal was great and not heavy for two days. From the white bones to the flat soup, please ask the front desk lady to make an appointment for rent, which is extremely smooth. I miss this deep secret.

This is my second time staying at the Awa-no-yu Hotel. I stayed there for one night last year and felt very good. I checked Ctrip and saw that there were 2 nights available, so I booked it 3 months in advance without hesitation. We took the tram from Matsumoto Station to Shin-Shimajima Station, and then took the bus to the hotel, which was quite convenient. It's just that the cost of travel has increased now. Last year, the tram and bus cost 2250 yen, and you can buy the tram + bus ticket directly from Matsumoto Station. Now you have to buy the tram from Matsumoto Station for 710 yen, and then buy the bus ticket for 2500 yen after arriving at Shin-Shimajima. The hotel distribution map is for your reference. There are no toilets and washrooms in the rooms in the main building. I suggest you book the rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the new building. The rooms are quite large and the conditions are very good. The hotel's hot springs and meals are quite good, and the service staff are also very enthusiastic. After we checked in, we caught up with a heavy snowfall. It was so enjoyable to soak in the hot springs in the snow! Although the hotel is in the deep mountains, there are flowers decorated in many places, which is very stylish. I would also like to thank Ctrip's customer service for helping me solve the problem in the reservation in time. It is trustworthy. I'm not an agent, I just always book hotels through Ctrip.

A very pleasant experience! Very close to the bus terminal! It felt very homey... The beef dinner was plentiful and delicious. The landlady is incredibly spry and speaks excellent English! 👍 She also prepared breakfast at my request (others didn't have it), and the price was very reasonable... very attentive... considering I'm over 50 and traveling alone... excellent service! 👍 The outdoor hot spring is quite 'primitive'... but authentic! Others (hikers) only need to pay 500 yen to enjoy it... If you don't mind the guesthouse feel... you could go again.
