"Location is great for walkability. Pool (really a large hot tub) is a nice feature although getting to it can be a weird trip up & down stairs depending upon what unit you're in. Units are vintage 60's, but kitchens & some bathrooms have been updated. Heating was a problem in bathroom. Furniture is old, too large for the size of the units and not very comfortable for hanging out. Some of the beds, at least in studio aren't great. Our friends reported that their unit Murphy bed required one person to crawl over the other to get out. The loft bed wouldn't be legal today. The ladder up to the loft is steep and you can't stand up. OK for a kid and if you don't have to get up at night. "

"great spot here... probs the best spot in town if u want to be near the gondola that takes you to the top of the mountain. we could ski off of our front porch! - ya cant get better than that.. our condo was also great spotless and very comfy. well done guys! highly reccommend.."

"I have been skiing Aspen since 1972 and except for the last few years taking a sabbatical, Hearthstone House has been my reliable fun choice for around 15 vacations since 2005. Unfortunately, the staff is now indifferent, inconsiderate, rude, and generally not available after 6:30 pm. The ill-trained staff is only half the problem with the once wonderful hotel itself going in deep disrepair. I reserved my favorite room back in October 2024 for an 8-night stay in March 2025 and this is what I experienced. Problem 1: My central room heat was not functioning. I regret not reporting the issue sooner but staff was difficult to pin down, and I didn’t want to deliver my complaint at breakfast in public. When I did report the lack of heat, staff came across as already knowing that my heat was not working. They didn’t verify the problem, made no attempt to correct the problem, had already contacted the plumber for arrival several days later on Monday, and immediately offered to let me stay in Buttermilk. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised already knowing that upon arrival, the room temperature was 68 while the thermostat was set at 88 along with the GM directing me to pay for the room upon check-in rather than at check-out as I had done in years past. For skiers not familiar with Aspen, Buttermilk is not a reasonable option nor was the prospect of expending 4-5 hours packing up, traveling to Buttermilk, checking in, and unpacking into a very old hotel that might prove worse. I come to Aspen to ski and enjoy the unique chic town, not stay in Buttermilk. No apology, no offer of compensation, just didn't care about my situation. At least she provided a space heater, but the thermostat on the space heater was broken on maximum so I would wake up to a sweat to unplug the heater when the room temperature closed in on 85 and then wake up to chills when the room temperature dropped to below 55, so that I could plug the heater back in. Waking up 4-5 times every night certainly cut into my sleep and cheerful nature. Adding to the lack of heat was the crank window that would not close completely, leaving a 1-inch gap, which becomes problematic when night temperatures approached zero Fahrenheit. I reported the same window broken 15 years ago but it was not a big issue when the heat worked. Surprisingly, lack of heat was not limited to my room as 3 different guests confided in having similar broken central heat problems. Not sure if the central heat to my room was ever fixed because even after supposed repair, I still needed the space heater and never felt any heat emanating from the radiators. The Staff just didn't care and could not have been more cavalier about my situation. Problem 2: Promises made were ignored. The GM promised me parking for a friend for a couple hours 2 specific days out of my 8-night stay. “Not a problem”, he said. And I reminded the GM and staff 5-6 times before my friend was to arrive.
