3-Star Hotels in Kumamoto City

I was a bit skeptical about all the comments mentioning it was like a Miyazaki castle and magical etc because the pictures didn't really showed that. But it is because photos don't truly show it .. but the atmosphere exists! Miki's place is full of details, it's art, but not only, it's sharp, it's cute, fun, sometimes critical, it makes you wonder, wander, think, want to touch and explore. There's music, there's vintage technological, there's hidden corners. The single rooms are the most searched for. But the dorms reeeeaallly need a chance. I stayed in a small dorm with only two beds. With an incredibly comfy sofa and an aquarium with a doll lucky fish surrounded by prosperity ”diamonds ”. At the entrance also there was a samurai suit, guarding my sleep. The windows have paper coverings with Sakura patterns. The water pressure in the shower is so good that I thought I was in a waterfall! The other dorm is bigger with two super comfy swinging chairs. One whole day I just stayed in. And was soo good! So I recommend to come with time to enjoy and give the necessary attention and care it deserves.

This hotel is perfectly located directly opposite Kumamoto Station, just a short walk across the road. The check-in instructions were very detailed, including information in Chinese on how to use the password lock, the onsen (hot spring), and details about drinks and breakfast. I really appreciated the wide selection of pillows and the variety of skincare products offered, including body lotion! It was a lifesaver as I hadn't packed any hand cream or body lotion. The breakfast, featuring both Japanese and Western options, wasn't vast but was thoughtfully prepared and absolutely delicious. The room size was typical for a Japanese hotel, and the soundproofing was excellent; I usually struggle to sleep well, but I had a fantastic night's rest here! The onsen was also a great bonus—perfect for soaking after a day of sightseeing. They even offer evening drinks and a 'goodnight tea'! The hotel management clearly put a lot of thought into traveler needs. I would definitely choose this hotel again on my next trip to Kumamoto! A perfect 10/10 travel experience.

Since I had a 7-day JR Pass, proximity to a JR station was my top priority for this trip. The hotel is very close to the JR station, and it seems to attract a lot of business travelers. My initial impression was that some of the younger staff at check-in lacked a bit of enthusiasm. But I let that slide. After getting to my room, I couldn't find the Wi-Fi password anywhere. I went downstairs specifically to ask, and the response was 'in room'. I still tried to figure it out myself first, searching every corner, but still nothing. So I went back down. The older staff member was very friendly and helpful. As soon as she mentioned 'TV', I immediately understood, as many hotels back home display it on the television. She even drew a diagram to explain! Usually, when you enter a room and the power comes on, the TV turns on automatically, and you'd see it. But this time, I had to turn the TV on myself, which I hadn't thought of. It just goes to show that service attitudes can vary among different staff. In Japan, I've always admired the professionalism across all industries, but this was the first time I've encountered such a service attitude from a staff member. Overall, this hotel's proximity to the JR station and its excellent value for money make it worth staying at.

Although they have a private carpark by side of the hotel, there was a parking fee charge of 2,000yen. But you're guaranteed a parking spot if you come back later at night. There are more parking lots in the multi storey carpark by side of the hotel. The hotel is very clean and I think it's relatively new. The front desk reception was very friendly n helpful. They also have a guest lounge on the ground floor next to the reception. Free flow of coffee and soft drinks plus some alcohol choices like sparkling wine. The lounge is open to hotel guests from 3pm to 11pm. They also provide coffee to go. The first 2 pictures is the view from our room. Across the highway from the hotel there's a Daisy & an Aeon supermarket. Very convenient to grab some food n light groceries. It's a good location to be in. I'll definitely be coming back to this hotel.

The value for money is excellent, and the breakfast is super delicious—the one with the most breakfast options I've ever experienced in Japan. The room size is also just right; the double room was perfect, and the twin room I booked for a friend was fantastic. The bathroom was huge, and the room was spacious enough to easily unpack and unpack. It's also very close to the airport bus stop. Highly recommended!

The tea cup in the room was not clean, i wish the hotel payed more attention to that. The hotel itself is very close to the station and the breakfasts are good, I've been there twice and each time the food was a little different. The staff at reception desk is very helpful

Had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Even though we have to take the tram from Kumamoto station and alight a few stops away, it is within walking distance to many shopping malls and restaurants and also near Sunroad Shinshigai and the Kumamoto Castle etc. Hotel allowed us to deposit our luggages upon arrival before check-in time. There is a coffee machine at hotel lobby which we could help ourselves to. Coin laundry and dryer room, ice machine and microwave was also conveniently located and available for use in hotel. There is cold water dispenser on every floor if I didn’t remember wrongly, which is useful as hotel doesn’t provide bottled water. The triple room we stayed in was pretty huge for Japan hotel standard. We had 3 big luggages and we could open them widely. TV is huge and we could cast videos from YouTube to watch. Room was overlooking the river. Overall a pleasant experience. Hope to be back soon!

Pros: 1. The hotel is directly opposite Kumamoto Castle, making it very convenient for sightseeing. It's also close to Kumamoto's Kamimachi area. 2. The views are excellent. From the 10th-floor restaurant, you can see Kumamoto Castle, and there's a free self-service beverage machine for unlimited drinks. 3. The room size is generous; a 26-inch suitcase can open completely. The facilities are new and very clean, and the service is good. Cons: The streets are very dark at night, and it's quite a distance to the nearest convenience store.

Having lived in Japan for over ten years, I have to commend this hotel. It far exceeded my expectations. 1. Right outside the door is the largest local bus terminal, making it incredibly convenient to get to the airport, Aso, Amakusa, and Fukuoka. 2. The price is half or even less than half of surrounding hotels. I originally had no expectations, thinking it would just be a cheap place to crash. 3. While the hallway decor looks a bit dated, it perfectly aligns with the MUJI団地 (housing complex) design philosophy. You even use a traditional key to open the door. 4. Although the room has an old-style Japanese business hotel decor, it's exceptionally clean and very spacious. The room design is well-thought-out, making it comfortable and secure to use. 5. Both check-in and check-out at the front desk were handled with meticulous care and polite, professional service. This is something even much more expensive hotels I've stayed at elsewhere often fail to deliver. 6. I stayed here for five consecutive nights and had a great experience. I would definitely choose this hotel again for future family trips.

Overall, a fantastic stay! I really appreciated the complimentary drinks and the spacious bathtub in the room. The service was excellent, and I'll definitely be returning for another visit. My only minor critique is that the location isn't the most convenient, but despite that, I found the overall experience to be very satisfactory.
