Toyota RAV4

I booked a Toyota SUV online and was given a Mazda CX-5 when I picked it up. It was my first time driving this model, and I enjoyed it quite well. The fuel consumption was a bit high, and the overtaking power was a bit lacking, but otherwise, it was quite good. Picking up and returning the car were both at the airport, which was very convenient, and the staff were very friendly. I'd definitely consider renting with this company again.

The car is in good condition, but unfortunately it's not the expected Toyota RAV4. It's a Ford Escape, and you can return it with a full tank of gas. Compared to gas prices in the national park, it's a good deal, but higher than in the suburbs of Calgary. When you return the car with full insurance and a full tank of gas, you can easily pick it up.

Unlike in the US, they didn't offer a tedious list of options; the process was quick and straightforward. It was a 30,000 km vehicle. I reserved a Toyota RAV4, but they didn't have one, so I was offered a Nissan Rogue. I wanted a hybrid, so I wanted a RAV4, but when I saw the car after washing it, it was an LE grade AWD, so it wasn't a hybrid, but the 16 km/h trip was shown on the trip report.

The female employee who checked in when I picked up my rental car was a bit rude. When I returned the car, the inspector was concise, clear, and friendly. Other than that, I had no issues whatsoever. They upgraded me to a larger vehicle than I had reserved, but that did mean I had to pay a bit more for gas. Thanks to this, I was able to travel the Rocky Mountains with my family in a comfortable, large vehicle.

What do I need to bring with me to pick up my car rental?

Please bring the following items with you when you pick up your car rental:

1. Your printed rental voucher.
2. A valid driving licence which has been valid for the required period of time. (The length of the required period of time may vary according to the rental supplier. If the rental supplier does not state a specific period of time which the licence must have been valid for, then the default required period of time is one year.) If your driving licence is in a different language to the language of the country of use, a translated copy of your licence that meets local requirements must be provided.
3. The credit card provided by the main driver must have sufficient payment credit. At pick-up, a preauthorisation fee will be taken as deposit.
4. A valid photo ID (your passport or other internationally accepted ID).

Important: Ensure you carefully read the terms and conditions provided by your rental supplier, and bring any additional items or documents required by your rental supplier.

Can I rent a car without a credit card?

A credit card is required for car rentals. A credit card must be used for car rental online payments, and is required to pay the deposit at pick-up.

Do I need to pay a deposit at pick-up?

Yes, you need to pay a deposit at pick-up to protect against damage and loss. The deposit is payable when you arrive at the branch for pick-up. The deposit amount is decided by the rental supplier; please contact your rental supplier directly if you have any related queries. The deposit amount will be frozen on the main driver's credit card for the duration of the rental period. After the rental period is completed, the deposit will usually be returned to the same credit card within 28–45 working days. Actual policies and practices may vary according to the rental supplier.

Do I need to buy insurance for my rental package?

Carefully check the insurance provided with your rental package. If you decide this insurance does not meet your requirements, there are two options available to you:
1. Select another Trip.com rental package which offers more complete insurance options.
2. Purchase additional insurance when you pick up your rental car at the branch.

How can I view the rental supplier's terms and conditions?

Is there a charge for cancelling my booking?

In most cases, no fee is charged for cancelling your booking. However, some suppliers may only offer free cancellation within a specified time period, and charge to cancel bookings outside of that time period.
