"This s a long overdue but heartfelt review of a place of character and grace. The staff could not have been more accommodating: We had difficulty finding our way because the GPS on our rented motorcycle failed us. I can't be sure if it was Yolanda and Rita (and a gentleman whose name I don't remember) who met us in town and accompanied us to the hotel, but we were grateful and touched by how everyone extended themselves. Our downstairs living quarters overlooked a sweet square, breakfast was delicious, and right next door is an adorable cafe with a charming proprietress. Guimaraes is a worthy stop and Casa do Juncal is very special!"

"Good location. Clean. Modern. Very helpful staff. Parking nearby and very cheap. We paid approx. €4.60 for 30h. The rooms are spacious and cozy. I recommend booking the deluxe room, it is a little more expensive but it is more than worth it. I would go back again, I recommend it."

"The hotel is located in a quiet area, eye that Google didn't know how to get to the one you should enter if you go in car where the church is. It is quite old but for quality-price is very recommendable, the beds are comfortable and both the hotel and the rooms are clean."

The Grove Houses

"Absolutely stellar stay at the Grove Houses! We were in Guimaraẽs over a rainy weekend, and ended up mostly staying at the property, it was so cozy. We booked a room in the main house, built in 1900, which is brimming with charm--beautiful woodwork, chandeliers, high ceilings, a turn-of-the-last century library and living room to enjoy, and amazing views of the four-acre garden setting from every window. There's also an annex which used to be the gardener's cottage--beautifully restored with a modern, relaxed style and superb finishes. We took a tour and would love to stay there, too! Our bed was super comfortable, with plump pillows and crisp sheets. The breakfast buffet was ample and tasty, with eggs made to order and loads of fresh fruit and pastries, plus Sara's homemade granola! Despite the rain, we couldn't resist exploring the beautifully landscaped grounds.There's parking, and easy walkable access to the rest of Penha, with its lovely trails and cafés and grottos. Best of all is the delightful staff -- "granola" Sara and general manager Sara and Mario -- who couldn't have been kinder and more welcoming and fun. We can't wait to return!"
