It's been a long time since I've stayed in a guesthouse with such a charmingly old-fashioned (in a good way) location. After parking on the mountain, you walk down a flight of stairs to the guesthouse, which has a slightly rustic, garden-like feel at the entrance. You need to climb up to the rooms; there are three floors in total, but no stairs. We stayed in the innermost room on the third floor. The room was large, very clean, and fully equipped. The heating was incredibly powerful (it really dries clothes!), there was a separate shower and toilet, and mosquito repellent was provided. The screens were very tight, so there were practically no mosquitoes in the room (and if there were, they weren't very smart). There was also a live TV. The river view from the window was absolutely stunning! This view was definitely worth the climb up and down. You can see the ancient town and the river; in the morning mist and rain, it's perfect for sitting and enjoying tea. We even considered staying another day, but we had to get going in the end, hehe.

A trip to Chongqing is incomplete without a stay at Gongtan Ancient Town's Bashi Inn which is located at the bank of the calm Wujiang River facing the forested mountain. The Inn is conveniently situated opposite the Wujiang Cruise Centre. We had 2 blissful nights and adore the scenic view from our balcony. The room is clean and very comfortable. Our host, Ms Ran Ran, is a very warm and helpful person who had gone the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable. She helped arrange all our transportation needs: arriving from Pengshui and departure from Gongtan.

I forgot to take a picture of the room. It is simple and clean, with a rustic feel. The floor creaks occasionally, which is very special. The river view is really comfortable. It is suitable for sitting on the small balcony and doing nothing. At night, the night watchman will shout ”Be careful of the candles” from outside. The boss and his wife are very enthusiastic, and the boss is very talkative and honest. They make their own pepper fish, and the fish is freshly caught. I will come here to relax next time.

The only thing I found a little uncomfortable was the infinity pool, which wasn't as impressive as I'd imagined. Before arriving, I thought it would be a private hotel pool, but when I got there, I found many people who weren't even staying at the hotel using swimming tickets to swim in it. This made me a little uncomfortable. Overall, though, it was great, and the service was excellent; they could easily call a car to pick you up whenever you wanted.
