But the guy had already ruined the vibe; we immediately went into ”defensive mode” rather than ”vacation mode.” The room was nothing special—forgettable and plain. We disliked it more than we liked it. To make matters worse, it was the most expensive stay on our entire road trip from Cairns to Melbourne. Interestingly, the know.travel description for this place hinted at the ”unique” service style of the owners—now I see exactly what they were warning about. They’re clearly capitalizing on the lack of competition in the area. In the morning, we discovered a shared kitchen in pretty sad condition, which no one even bothered to mention when we checked in."
