The Royal George ★★★★

📍 Main Road, Tintern

"Absolutely wonderful one night stay to visit Tintern Abbey. Fantastic staff and superb receptionist on the evening we arrived on a very hot day. They’d set up a cooling fan in the bedroom earlier in the afternoon a lovely touch. Great room and en-suite everything you could want and very clean. Super king bed very comfortable. Although the main restaurant was closed on Monday nights we had two beautiful steaks in the ‘bar restaurant’ not your usual pub fair all choices on the menu you’d be happy to find in a restaurant. Great breakfast with a lot of choices. No expense seemed to have been spared on the rooms and the refurbishment. A lot of care has gone into the gardens too. We definitely want to to stay longer on another visit just thinking of an excuse! Would highly recommend the Royal George."

Two Rivers Lodge by Marston’s Inns ★★★★

📍 Newport Rd, Chepstow

"Overnight stay following a wedding. Great location for our purpose. Room was clean and had all of the expected amenities and services. Tea tray was well stocked. Check in is 2pm, which was awkward as the wedding service was at 1:30. I booked two rooms so paid an additional £20 to check in early at one of these rooms. I telephoned the reservations team on two occasions a few days prior to our stay to enquire about the check in process and how access to the room would be facilitated since we would not be returning from the wedding until 1am. My only criticism would be the lack of clarity I received from the respondents. As a result of the insufficient answers to my questions, I made provision to leave the wedding venue during the day to check in at the second room. Upon arrival at the Two Rivers, all my additional arrangements were negated as the gentleman who checked us in, allowed us to check in for the second room there and then and take the key card. Other family members were staying in the room and I was paying for it. The access to the room was via a separate accommodation block and simply using the key card. All my additional arrangements to check in during the day were unnecessary. It would have been very easy if the respondents to my telephone calls earlier that week had given me that information. We had a good night's sleep and the breakfast was excellent and very reasonably priced."

📍 8 Lower Church St, Chepstow

"I have never received such great customer service. Craig did everything he could to accommodate our stay and would highly recommend his cottage. Nothing was too much trouble and our stay was very comfortable and the area so convenient for a wedding at Mounton Brook. Craig also provided a long list of taxis to enable our return to the cottage. Thank you"

"We booked two double rooms for our stay . Very comfortable and cosy . We were in Tintern for a family funeral . The proprietors made us very welcome and our evening meal in the bar and breakfast next morning was excellent- home made and good quality produce . Some of our family members joined us on the day of the funeral and were served coffee and tea in the lounge before we walked over to the church . Would definitely recommend a stay here . Thank you Barry and Sue ."

Delta Hotels St. Pierre Country Club ★★★★
"This castle hotel is magical, situated in a quiet area (golf coarse). Public areas and leisure zone are very good. We had the cheapest room, it was of an okay size, with a double bed, 2 chairs, 2 night stands, 1 chest of drawers, desk and coffee table + wardrobe. Cleanliness was okay, but I believe must be better, there was dust on the surfaces and dirt/rubbish on carpets. We didn’t have any heating and hot water, had to call the reception for couple of times and the issue was solved. Bathtub was very awkward, water pressure was poor Gym and pool/jacuzzi area are nice and spacious, sauna is very enjoyable. No bathrobes and slippers were provided (strange, it’s a 4 star hotel). Check out at 12:00, very convenient. Food is super over priced, together with the room service. Parking was okay, tight but many spots available. Definitely will come back because we loved it!"

The Royal George ★★★★
"After 13 days walking the 177 miles Offas Dyke path, the Royal George was a perfect oasis to finally put my feet up, relax and enjoy everything the hotel has to offer. The staff team were exceptionally responsive, welcoming and happy to be of service. An amazing balcony room which was well proportioned with a well appointed bathroom. Delicious food and above all else accompanied by a very cold beer! Perfect"

"Stayed at two rivers as I was attending a wedding nearby. Room only. Pros: Ample parking Allowed me to pick up my keycard early (as I would be at the wedding until after 10pm) Taylors coffee bags and Yorkshire tea in the room were better than the average hotel tea and coffee. Cons: The toilet seat was broken and had sticky tape holding it together. Not sure this is very sanitary. I would stay here again but for £120 per night a taped up toilet seat is not good enough."

"We'd finished a canoe trip down the Wye and were looking for a room late in the evening. Luckily, Craig and Vicki had one available. Craig explained the codes and sent info over straight away. We found a very clean and cosy room ready for us and (after having tea at Stone Rock Pizza just up the road) had a very good shower and excellent night's sleep. We weren't there long enough to make use of the communal living room or kitchen, but both looked tidy and welcoming. Would definitely stay again. Thank you both."

Traveling with friends
Wye Valley Hotel ★★★
"We were spending a long weekend with our friends and they suggested this venue for Sunday lunch as they’d dined here on a previous occasion. You can tell it’s a family run hotel as the service was far less corporate than those encountered when visiting chains which is a nicer experience. It looks old fashioned and has a very comfy seating area which includes an open fire if you want to relax but we went for food and none of our party were disappointed. One had the vegetarian option , 2 had pork and one roast beef , all came accompanied with top quality vegetables which you could instantly see were freshly cooked and they certainly didn’t skimp on the with meat , very generous portions and extremely tender , the Yorkshire puds were just mmmmm ! The service was equally impressive , will definitely go back when on our next visit to friends ."

"The room is an old hotel with a history of hundreds of years. If you like this atmosphere, you can experience it. It feels a bit like the game "Stephenci's Memory". I didn't give five stars because if you arrive at night, it feels like a game, and the bird food is a bit scary. If you are a girl, you should consider it. Self-check-in, old houses naturally have inconveniences, but the price is there after all."

Broadrock Accommodation - Clock Cottage ★★★★
"A great place to stay when visiting the Chepstow area. We stayed in The Loft which is a large studio bedroom with kitchen area, sitting area and large bathroom with shower and roll top bath. There is everything you need for a self catering break. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. Outside patio for guests to use. Offas Duke path is just outside the back gate and Wintour's leap view is a 2 minute walk. Chepstow is a lovely small town with a few independent shops, good pubs and a castle. The Riverside is lovely for a stroll or to sit and watch the Peregrine Falcons swooping on the cliffs."
