"I was disappointed about the bedsheets because there’s a lot of stain"
Hotel la Maria ★★★
"We have just stayed at La Maria in Guiuan for 12 nights. We booked the standard room and overall we found our stay pleasant and comfortable, with just a couple of observations for improvements. Firstly, absolutely zero complaints with arrival and getting settled. We arrived at around 2pm and our room was ready (1 hour before check in time). Check in was quick and easy and the hotel did not ask for any security deposit to be held (that's a huge turn off for me so props to them for this.) I was a little surprised to find that there was no elevator haha but it wasn't too big a deal. The room itself was... cozy! It's not too bad but we definitely found ourselves having to manoeuvre around each other and our limited space from time to time. But overall the furniture is arranged nicely so as to make the most of the small floorspace. You get a queen sized bed, a desk with mirror, a small table for the coffee and tea, and a wardrobe to hang clothes. Overall it was sufficient and if you're travelling solo it would be MORE than enough space. One big downside is there's no fridge in the standard room but not having one wasn't something we really noticed too much. The bathroom is where the room feels most dated. It's clean and tidy but you definitely get a very "70s vibe" stepping in there. Also note that there is very limited hot water at this hotel, but this is something you should expect when travelling out to the provinces in The Philippines, so no fault of the hotel there. I did find that most nights if I let the shower run for a couple of minutes, hot water would kick in. So showering was no issue most days. There were some days there that I had to take the plunge into the cold water though haha but all part of travelling isn't it, take the good experiences with the quirky ones :) Breakfast is included in the room rates and again the offerings are sufficient. As with more hotels in The Philippines, expect rice in abundance haha. There are multiple sets to choose from, corned beef, hotdog, tapa etc. And I found all of them to be well prepared and filling. Breakfast is served with coffee or juice and usually they bring you a plate of either banana or watermelon to go with it. I found this kept me full until lunch time, so no complaints. The location couldn't be better situated! You're right in the heart of Guiuan. You've got a beautiful little coffee shop next door and a supermarket just a couple doors down. I found the various food outlets around the hotel to be more than suitable for me. You've got a lot of choices including fried chicken, pizza, burgers and more. And if that doesn't do it for you, the restaurant in the hotel serves good food for lunch and dinner also at fairly good prices. If I had to nitpick, my only complaints would be that on many of our days we had to call down to the front desk and remind them that our room had not been made up, despite us leaving the sign on the door every time we went out. However the staff were always lo"
