They lost all their booking money too because Virgin and Hotels by Hopper refused to believe the owners had let the place fall to crap ."

Tropicana Lagoon Apartments

"I stayed at Tropicana for 2 weeks with a friend and my two children ( 2 year old and a 7 month old). SERVICE - The staff are absolutely amazing. They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable right from the get go. I made a mistake and booked the wrong room (the smaller one) and they managed to get another bed into our room. The staff took our luggage and children up the stairs for us. They also would bring dinner to our room if our children were sleeping or didn't want to come down. I had great conversations with some of the staff and really got to know them. When our bus broke down, the manager called one of their own drivers for us. They were all so happy and friendly! Not a single complaint with the service. CLEANLINESS - Our room was very tidy and was serviced every day. The hardwood floor and balcony was swept, towels replaced, rubbish taken out, dishes done and beds made every single day. The house keeper offered to do our laundry and we received it back the next day as well. We had no issues with mosquitos, there were a few lizards on the roof outside but that was a non-issue. The grounds were clean, everyday we saw men working to keep the place tidy and presentable. SPACE - We had a beach front apartment (Room 11) which was located upstairs. The room had enough room for us to walk around while the toddler was playing. It also had a baby cot, double bed and single bed as well so I feel the room was very spacious. There was a large wardrobe with coat hangers and shelving we we could fit all of our suitcases and bags. There was a small table with 2 chairs and a couch that seated 3 people. The balcony was large with another table and 2 chairs. There was an air conditioning unit that was quite powerful and cooled our room right down in minutes as well as a ceiling fan. There was a flat screen tv. In the kitchen we had a microwave, toaster, kettle, gas stove with 2 elements, small fridge and plenty of cupboard and bench space. SECURITY - We felt very safe at Tropicana. There is a safe in the wardrobe where we kept our passports. They also have a security guard stay onsite overnight. BEDDING - Very comfortable, my children slept all night which never usually happens. Me and my friend had comfortable sleeps every night. NOISE - Some nights we could hear dogs barking from across the lagoon but it was faint enough to not disturb us. No traffic noise as Tropicana is situated down a long driveway away from the road. LOCATION - About a 10 minute drive from Port Vila township, 15 minutes from the airport. Just down the road from the supermarket and ATM. PRICE - Definitely worth the price. Affordable. FOOD - The chefs make amazing meals. Best beef burger I have ever had. So full of flavour and very big servings. GENERAL - Tropicana has a small pool which starts shallow and then gets very deep at one end. There were 2 kayaks and a stand-up paddle board for guests to use. "My daughter and friends stayed in 2 flats at the Mariner during their med school elective and absolutely loved it, The view was great, the place was modern and clean and the staff v friendly and accommodating. It was her birthday whilst there and Elliott and his team were absolutely fantastic. They sourced local flowers, a cake and a small local present and set it up very nicely in her flat to surprise my daughter. We were in regular communication via WhatsApp and nothing was too much trouble. Being so far away I felt my daughter and her friends were in good hands over there and it was v reassuring."

"The hotel surroundings are beautiful, and the staff are very welcoming. Although you need to take a ferry to reach the hotel, it's quite convenient, with 24-hour hot water and boat transfers available."

Trees and Fishes Private Retreat

"The hotel is about a 40-minute drive from the city center and is not very large. It has its own beach and small pier. Guests can use canoes and SUPs for free; masks need to be rented. It's recommended to rent a car. The hotel charges 7000 VAT for a one-way trip to the city center, and 30,000 VAT for a full day's use with a driver. They don't give room keys; they say it's only for staff and guests, so there's nothing to worry about. Even our room door was difficult to close properly, so we just left it open. The food at the hotel wasn't very good. Breakfast was okay, but the penne pasta we ordered for lunch was extremely salty, and the fish burger for dinner had a bread as hard as a baguette. The pizza was okay, and the fries were good. The scenery is beautiful. We stayed for four nights, but lunch and dinner were the most inconvenient."

South Pacific Memories

"South Pacific Memories is a few kms outside of Port Vila set on the beach. The Beach is mostly coral but is teaming with life (mainly hermit crabs). We found the owners (Peter and Anna) to be absolutely lovely and very passionate and knowledgeable about the area especially what lives in the water. If you are a scuba diver who loves marine life then a dive there is a must. I have never seen so may Nudibranches in a single dive and the rest of the marine life comes out to put on a show. I dove with Anna and she points out the most interesting things. The rooms are large and comfortable. The food is fantastic and they are very accommodating to dietary requirements."

"The ground floor rooms were excellent, great pool and view of lagoon. Please check before you book that there is a TV in your room that works. TVs have not been working for 5 months now. They did initially blame the earth quake, that is not true. Staff were lovely."

Vanuatu Beachfront Apartments

"After a failed attempt to visit Vanuatu earlier in the year, I finally got to stay for 4 nights at this lovely accommodation. It was close to where family members were staying but in my opinion, I was the winner. Establishment is out of Vila but set beachfront on a crescent of sand which at the time I went was almost deserted. 5 minutes walk to the jetty that will take you to Hideaway Island if you would like to spend some time there to snorkel or SCUBA. Also, buses are readily available at the jetty to take you wherever you'd like to go - supermarket or into Vila. The staff at Beachfront are amazing! Friendly, happy and always ready to help out. True hospitality. I loved my chats with them. Beachfront is a small no-frills apartment complex which is kept beautifully clean and where things work as they should. Beds and pillows are great. You have your own cooking facilities and seating area even in a studio and is a very comfortable place to stay. Push bikes can be borrowed if you'd like to cycle to the supermarket rather than take a bus but equally, you can walk. There is a bar and lovely food cooked on the premises to enjoy in your apartment or around the pool. The food is great and the home baked bread! Oh my goodness ... yum! I would definitely return and highly recommend if you are looking for a totally relaxing beach stay with no fuss but great hospitality. "
