Hotel Eger & Park ★★★★

"I have stayed at this hotel twice so far, both times for conferences. I enjoyed myself on both occasions—not because I ate and drank to my heart's content, but because the staff did absolutely everything they could. There was even a tricky situation: I went up to my room wet and in a bathrobe—I wasn't even wearing a swimsuit anymore—and the door wouldn't open, not even for the maid. Then the maintenance crew arrived and solved the problem—thank you. When I was leaving the room to check out, a Vietnamese staff member bowed to me and thanked me for my visit. At the conference's evening party, the waiters were so delighted by the "star guest" that they danced; I know they were working and shouldn't have, but it was charming nonetheless. Throughout the conference, we ate the hotel's food, and it was delicious; the *vadas* (game-style stew), for instance, would hold its own in any other restaurant. The Eger Hotel section is, unfortunately, truly a 3-star establishment; the rooms were modernized at some point—who knows when, but it was probably 20 years ago—and now they look worn and old-fashioned. I recommend the Park Hotel section; it has an old-style feel too, but the furniture is the kind you actually appreciate—whether it’s genuinely antique, just looks old, or is simply vintage. The bathrooms are small everywhere; if you look at the photos, they show two rooms—both from the Park Hotel—and both have that old-fashioned style, which I personally liked. On the downside, however, while the two rooms—number 34 and number 2—are designated the same way, they are unfortunately not the same size: room 34 consists of two separate areas, whereas room 2 has only one. There is plenty of parking, and while the wellness area isn't new, it offers a pleasant experience with a full range of facilities: a steam room, sauna, and an adventure pool, as well as cold and hot plunge pools and a Jacuzzi."

"Great room and plenty of space but minimal on the bath accessories. No soap or conditioner. They supplied 2 small pouches of body wash but no wash cloth. No shampoo or conditioner or bar soap. Good location, 15 mins from the train station and less than 10 mins to the castle or eateries."

"The room is as in the picture, everything is there. But. But!!!! The front door lock was broken, they didn't fix it, they didn't change the number. The door to the bathroom does not close. Food in another building, 5-10 minutes from the hotel, normal, from 7 to 10, but by 9.40 there is little left. The bedding, beds, pillows are good, as well as stylishly done in general, but there are already a few cracks on the walls."

"The hotel is located in a quiet area close to the centre of Eger. The hotel is very modern, in excellent condition and has a spacious underground car parking. The breakfast each day had a range of quality continental options and some cooked dishes. The Suite was spacious, had opening doors onto a balcony and was well equipped. The cooling system utilised by the hotel was not very effective, however we were on the 4th floor and left the balcony doors open at night to allow the cool air in. The hotel hallways and lobby were dark with a significant proportion of the lighting off. I assume this may be part of a nationwide energy usage reduction strategy, however it was not very welcoming, especially at night."
