Up until dinner, everything had gone smoothly. "If you are looking for an authentic, idyllic and slightly out of the way Sicilian retreat, the Etna Hotel covers all those bases. The views of Etna from the outside dining area are fantastic. All the hotel staff could not have made my stay any more enjoyable than it was. As an example, the lead restaurant staff member on my last evening there recommended the best dish (pasta in tomato sauce) which was the best meal I had during my stay at the hotel! Another being, one morning during breakfast my favourite song came on (80s hits radio) the radio station and one of the staff members was kind enough to put the volume up a bit so I could listen to it. I became familiar with most of the staff during my stay and got to know a few on first name terms. They were so happy when I was also able to speak a little Italian with them. The Etna tour excursion which leaves directly from the hotel was a memorable experience and one which anyone else choosing to visit can do and I would fully recommend. At the time of writing its around 60 euros per person. If I had one suggestion, providing a small excursion to see the historic sites of Catania would have made an already great holiday even more magnificent! I highly recommend and I believe that I will visit the hotel again in the near future as there is still so much to explore on the east coast of Sicily. Mark"
