"AWFUL HOTEL Recently stayed with a group, had a very large amount of money stolen from the safe. Cleaner made petty trips to our room, e.g to drop 2 towels off yet there was 4 of us in a room and made no effort of cleaning. On this occasion we came back from the beach and found over €300 euros missing. Hotel explained we must have been stealing off each other & the cleaner has been there 20 years so it couldn’t have been them. AVOID AT ALL COSTS"

"We were absolutely blown away by our stay at this hotel. As a couple in our early 30s looking for a relaxing getaway, it exceeded all of our expectations and is the best hotel we have stayed in and can see why it has so many excellent reviews. We were lucky enough to receive a complimentary upgrade to a swim-up room (without asking!) and it truly made our week. It was such a special touch and made our stay even more memorable. Every single meal we had was delicious! High quality food with impeccable service throughout. The staff were attentive and friendly. If you’re looking for a peaceful, classy, and modern hotel where you can truly switch off and relax, we couldn’t recommend this place more highly. We would happily return!"

"Pleased with the experience here at the The Sarpidon. I found it to be very clean, friendly and as a solo traveller( 3rd time in Crete) , the clientele is made up of plenty of frequent visitors who were wonderful to meet and chat too. The lovely Anne and Peter, Jane and Michelle and the hilarious Marie from Ireland - in promise I will return the glass 😇. The rapport the staff have with visitors is priceless. You could have paid 10 times the cost and still not received the attention and friendliness that I feel I had received here . Apologies to Dora who had to chase me down the street because I forgot to pay for my last snack - 100 m sprint better than an Olympic event. So sorry Dora 🙏. Won’t happen again 🫣. Situated right in the centre of Old Malia, close to a very convenient travel route that can take you from one end of the island to the other, with buses coming every 20 minutes. Take a walk out of the west exit of hotel and you find yourself in a delightful and quaint Old Village of Malia , rich in historic buildings, some converted into stunning restaurants and picture postcard beautiful streets. Sarpido also offers delicious meals and drinks reasonably priced and plenty on offer . The beach is in walking distance about 400 m or so but the beach on Malia is squeezed with so many sunbeds you’re near on top of each other - preferred the lovely cove at Hersonnisos 24 or around the pool the days I wasn’t off exploring. Sarpidon is ideally situated, surrounded by a stunning backdrop of mountains yet has everything you need for a memorable, relaxing holiday . Highly recommend. Keep Euros and change . Much preferred than card ."

From check in, to recommendations of places to visit, restaurants and even offered run us to the airport if our taxi at 3am didn't turn up! The hotel is lovely, clean, and with beautiful gardens, let photos speak for self. Location is perfect, no noise even though close to strip. Peaceful around pool. We had a lovely stay for the week, with Akis and family making us very welcome. Thank you!"

"Breakfast and dinner were very good, and you could also sit outside and relax. There weren't many seats inside, though. The hotel is divided into two buildings, so you might have to change buildings (across the street) to get to reception or eat your meals. But that didn't bother me. The manager also lends a hand, whether at dinner or at reception late in the evening. All the staff are very polite and take good care of the hotel guests. I was even spoken to in German once or twice. The staff could have asked me about drinks at dinner, but I'm not deducting a point for that. Perhaps it's intended that hotel guests eat in peace and approach the staff about it themselves. The beach promenade with several bars is not far from the hotel (a 5-10-minute walk), and kiosks and a bus station (used by both tour operators and public transport on Crete) are just a 3-minute walk away. The room was nice and had a balcony. It's also worth mentioning that the hotel also has a small pool. I paid around 100 euros for 3 nights (breakfast and dinner included), and the price is truly unbeatable."

"We had a great time, the facilities and service are excellent. We were disappointed with the food, both the breakfast, lunch and dinner. The only food that was tasty and appropriate for the hotel level was the food that was paid extra in the restaurant on the beach/pool. There is no free drink, the water is sold at a price 13 times higher than in nearby supermarkets. Even if you arrive very early all the beds in the pools are taken/kept, people keep them even while they go for a few hours to eat/sleep, but the hotel employees, unfortunately, do nothing about it."

"This was our 5th stay at this hotel, which says it all really! It’s a lovely, well-maintained hotel in a fantastic location. Very friendly staff too. The breakfast is fresh and plentiful, and I particularly loved the Greek yoghurt each morning. Lunches are generous and freshly prepared too. Definitely try the salads, they are excellent. The pool area is clean and well looked after, with plenty of comfortable sunbeds. The music around the pool can be quite loud at times, but that’s a matter of personal preference. There are also some beautiful beaches nearby if you fancy a change of scenery. The location is perfect, with restaurants, bars and beaches all within walking distance, and it’s only a short taxi ride to the Old Town. A couple of minor points: the rooms can be quite dark, don’t have a full-length mirror, and the hairdryers aren’t particularly powerful, so you may want to bring your own. I always take a travel mirror too. The hotel provides basic shower gel, and there’s a fridge in the room which is handy for keeping drinks cold. Overall, another wonderful stay, and we wouldn’t hesitate to return again."

"We stayed at Heliotrope Apartments in July 2025 and unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience. The accommodation was extremely dirty – cockroaches were present in several areas of the apartment. Despite an immediate complaint on site, nothing was done, neither cleaning nor a room change. The staff showed absolutely no interest. The incident was also reported multiple times via the booking platform Agoda, including photographic evidence. Nevertheless, we were only offered a very small compensation, which in no way reflects reality. The apartment was unacceptable in this condition, and the provider's response was disappointing. I cannot recommend this accommodation and strongly advise caution when booking it."

Breakfast was tasty and had a good variety, though it was the same every day. The only downsides were the cold water in the pool and the long walk to the promenade and beaches. Other than that, we had a great stay and have nothing to complain about."

"Wow what an amazing hotel. Stunning from start to finish. Amazing food, with sooo much choice. The view from the dining room is awesome and you can hear the sea eating your meals also outdoor seating much choice and snack but did beautiful food too. We had a night at a la carte for our 20th anniversary and hubby’s birthday while the sun went down. The food was lovely. The drinks are good but AI cocktails disappointing but most hotels seem the same these days. The bar men bring your drinks and even remember what you drink. Lovely attitude and happy bar men. but most hotels are the same these days. We arrived very late after a 4.5 delay and were greeted by a lovely man who checked us in and we were handed fresh flannels and a lemon drink. Our cases were taken to our room which was lovely and a plate of food and water in our fridge with complimentary wine. The pool area is lovely, usual sun bed reserve dash (maybe a book your sun bed app would be better). Entertainment was ok 2 nights of drifters and a lady singer were amazing but could be better. Entertainment man worked hard non stop. Thank you all so much everybody ❤️"

"From the moment we entered the hotel it took us 15 minutes to even see a member of staff. When the manager came down to check us in he was EXTREMELY rude to the point I genuinely thought he could be putting on some sort of act or joke. I was there with 5 male friends and from the get go he began immediately insulting us and when we asked what his problem is he let us know he’s more than happy to immediately kick us out and keep our money. His attitude and behaviour was abysmal and by this point all we had done was walk into the hotel and wait ages to see someone. When anyone of us would attempt to speak to him he would tell us to “shut up or leave” and this was still whilst we were attempting to check in, this is when we called him out on his attitude and his threats were made. “You don’t like my attitude? Leave, f*ck off”. An absolute immature rude man-child, we are paying customers of your sh*tty hotel, at least give us a slither of respect. We noticed he would only ever do this to male customers and witnessed him acting the same way to other groups of lads. You could practically whisper in your room and he would come up and give you a noice complaint and threaten to kick you out. He needs to be shut down, fired and banned from working in any hospitality roles, it’s a shame because the actual hotel itself wasn’t bad but was completely spoiled by his constant rude immaturity"

"Such a fabulous hotel for couples in Crete. The staff let us know it was at 95% occupancy but you would never know. It didn’t feel overly busy. The sun loungers are nicely spaced apart and so comfy unlike other hotels. The restaurants on offer are really nice too. It’s all in the same area but set up slightly different will à la carte menus. We stayed for a week so ventured down to the town for a meal or two which broke it up nicely. The hotel was exceptionally clean as well with staff constantly cleaning around the hotel. Breakfast was lovely and fresh too. Lots on offer. Staff were so helpful and friendly made it a really special stay"

"would definitely recommend these apartments. I was worried it was going to be mostly young people , but it was a very mixed age group and there was a lovely vibe about the place. The staff are so friendly, the place very clean, and the location was perfect. Once you closed your doors at night, you couldn't hear any noise. Even sitting on the balcony was very peaceful. "Me and my partner booked a swim up for 1 week and we loved the hotel. The hotel is probably one of the most aesthetically pleasing establishments that we have stayed. We went for a swim up room and was not disappointed. The room was a perfect size for a couple with coffee, tea facilities and a mini bar that is replenished daily for this room type. The rooms and hotel in general is spotless and I would like to shoutout Monica from housekeeping, she couldn’t do enough for us! Our only slight issue was the food / drink. The breakfast and lunch time options are great, I love the 3 options at lunch of the two ale cartes or Buffet, we particularly loved the pool ble bar. Dinner however was focused heavily on sea food, of which me and my Partner do not eat. We spoke to other non sea food eaters who also said they struggled. The biggest issue for me though was the lack of accessibility to drinking water. One bottle was placed in the mini fridge everyday, however, the only way to get water all inclusive through the day was to ask for cups of water at the bar. Bottled water is not included, there is also no existing hydration stations / fountains throughout the hotel as far as I’m aware. The water provided at the bar was often served in plastic cups that looked like they had hardly been cleaned, often with black dirt swimming in them. I don’t think I got served a clean cup of water once. I had heard that you could go to reception and request bottles of water but when I did, I was told to use room service, so pay €8 to get a bottle of water? The local alcohol brands are also overpowering and quite poor."

"I was at this intel for 4 nights on a business trip. As we arrived the person at the reception made me pay in advance the whole stay and I remember telling them that I had already learnt that paying in advance is a bad sign. The next morning there was no electricity nor water and I also discovered that water was dripping from the ceiling of my bathroom over the toilet. That same morning I informed the hotel personnel but nothing was done about the drip. The water is not potable but the hotel only provided 750 ml bottle on the first day. The worst part was that one of my business partners was shouted at by the owner and told to find another place to stay. This may seem like.a.nice hotel from the outside but I would and will avoid."
