Maxx Hotel Jena

Maxx Hotel Jena

📍 Stauffenbergstraße 59, Jena
★★★★ 8.0 (51 reviews)

"It exceeded expectations for a budget hotel. Staff interaction was always friendly. The room was clean. It was odd that there was no refrigerator in the room. Our large bed was simply two single beds pushed together. There was no attempt to bridge the gap between the beds with some sort of connector. Linens were clean and nice with no strong detergent smell. Will definitely stay here again when I come visit my son at the nearby university."

"The staff was very friendly. The breakfast buffet was good, with fresh fruit (orange, pineapple, grapefruit, and melon). The decor is dated and quite worn, but everything is well-maintained and clean."

"This hotel is centrally located, easy to find, etc. It was clean, quiet, and everything worked. However, this was the first time that I stayed at a non-staffed hotel. Self check-in worked w/o a hitch and all but it is strange and weird checking in and not ever seeing someone who works there. We needed extra linens and called the number that was shown. Someone picked up and was able to help but it still felt weird."

"Newly renovated, so it was better than expected. Wish it had an air conditioner, because summer is just too hot to stay without it these days."

B&B HOTEL Jena ★★
"A very good B&B hotel in Jena. Clean, modern rooms, comfortable beds, and an overall very well-maintained appearance. Check-in and check-out were quick and easy. The breakfast is perfectly adequate for the price and offers a good selection. Centrally located with good transport links, ideal for city breaks or short business trips. Excellent value for money. I would definitely book it again."

"This boutique hotel is excellent value, near to the main (Paradies) rail station and within the city centre, nicely refurbished in a plain but comfortable Nordic style and, unusually for hotels nowadays, with room heating that actually works adjustably and soundlessly (under-floor?). Breakfast is nice if fairly standard. The hotel reception is manned only during daytime hours, but access arrangements via an electronic keybox worked fine for me. On balance, nicer than most chain hotels and not too pricey."

"We travelled as a family. My son is already 25, so we booked two rooms. My husband and I stayed in the junior suite with our young Pomeranian girlfriend. My son and his girlfriend stayed in a standard double room. The double room was in a deplorable state. The minibar was screwed shut; there wasn't one in the room. The lightbulb blew out as soon as we switched it on. The furnishings desperately needed replacing or at least maintenance, and I've never experienced such a "bathroom" in a hotel room in my entire life! It was barely two square meters; you couldn't even turn around in it. The shower was a disaster, and the sink was positioned in front of the toilet... if you were to lower your head, you'd hit the sink while sitting on the toilet... a wardrobe is bigger! The price-performance ratio was a catastrophe! We upgraded to the junior suite. Everything was very new. It smelled awful! I suspect it was the varnish on the beams, which hadn't been properly aired out. There was an extra charge of 15 euros for dogs, regardless of size. There's no dog bowl or anything similar. Not even in the room, mind you. They do provide a treat upon arrival. There are no green spaces around the hotel, and the parking lot is in the back... I hope you can manage with your vehicle and that it's not large. Breakfast was okay. Many things tasted "sour," and the service was very unfriendly to my son. Probably because our room number was one of the "lower" ones. It improved when my husband and I arrived. In the end, I can only recommend the Esplanade. It offers significantly better value for money, friendlier service, clean, decent rooms, and no price gouging. There aren't any green spaces there, but then again, neither are there at the Bären. That was actually the reason we booked here. Unfortunately, a huge mistake. Four stars are unjustified. I'm sorry... I was very annoyed and also very ashamed in front of my son. Everything was communicated in advance, including requests like a bathtub. These were completely ignored in both rooms. Why? The email went unanswered. Everyone seemed overwhelmed... not a good experience."

"As I arrived, nobody was there. After calling, in learned that it was my fault to book via a platform as then the staff was not able to send me the information how to access the key. The room was cold 14.2°C, and heated up slowly. The blanket was not very warm too. There have been only four pieces of toilet paper, hence this was not enough."
