"This was a disappointing stay for the price point. The positives: the staff is very friendly, the art is amusing, the yoga and gym amenities were great, and the resort overall is truly beautiful. However, the basics like service are an afterthought and poor. There is no beach service. They will set up very uncomfortable “chairs” and an umbrella for you and that’s it. Allegedly there is pool service but at no point did anyone ask us if we wanted anything and if we got someone’s attention and did order something, it never came. Service was also very slow overall. Also, we filled out an initial survey about a week before our stay and we’re not sure what the point of it was. It was never followed up on. Lastly, they made a point when checking into our room to tell us that while it appears the shower will get water everywhere (there is no enclosure), it won’t. That is false. Water will get everywhere on the bathroom floor. This was our first time in Jose Ignacio, and we can’t say if another resort or hotel would be better, but this was our experience."

"When rating a hotel, price must be taken into account. At Baya Vik, the cost is extremely high, and therefore one reasonably expects top-level hospitality and service. Unfortunately, this was not our experience. The property itself is visually striking, with an impressive minimalist design and beautiful views of the ocean and beaches. However, only some rooms actually enjoy a good view; others are poorly positioned. The rooms are almost entirely glass, not all windows were properly cleaned, and privacy is limited. Rooms are not insulated!!! Amenities in both the room and bathroom are very basic, especially considering the price. Even finding light switches is not intuitive. In case of rain, guests need umbrellas just to reach the reception, restaurant, or pool, which quickly becomes inconvenient. Service is consistently very slow. There is no phone in the room, and communication relies on a confusing and poorly explained WhatsApp system. The restaurant is also below expectations in terms of food, service, and overall experience. Overall, there are much better accommodation options in José Ignacio offering higher standards at a far more reasonable price."

"Excellent service and attention. We had a problem with the house where we were staying, so we had to book two nights in a smaller room. It's very well laid out; we are two adults and a baby, and they provided a crib for him. My only suggestion would be to install a baseboard or small barrier between the shower stall and the rest of the bathroom, because it floods otherwise. With a baseboard of about 3 cm, I think it would withstand the overflow. I understand this happens in several rooms because I heard another guest mention it."

"Had a wonderful spontaneous overnight at Estancia Vik and fortunately experienced none of the problems of some reviewers. The staff was absolutely terrific, including reception and restaurant staff. I only had a small salad meal for dinner and glass of Vik wine but the salad was terrific. The breakfast then was outstanding and for the early wakers there is coffee machine and capsules in your room. The rooms are huge (and I stayed in a small one) and very thoughtfully furnished but then again the whole property is a bit of an art museum. Gym use is included but the facility is at Bahia Vik, another of their properties which requires a transfer unless you are visiting by car, this is the only flaw I could during my experience. On the other hand an unexpected horseride was included with the wonderful Carlos who patiently explained lots of horseriding tricks. Staying at Estancia Vik, even for a single night, is pricey but then most similar estancias and wine lodges nearby carry similar price tags. And it is a beautiful, intimate property with a huge land around to roam freely so definitely a worthy once-in-a-lifetime splash."

"So many good things to at but will start with the incredible staff. As Americans new to Uruguay, we had a lot of questions and requests. Every single staff member was so genuinely friendly and took care of everything we needed from surf lessons to horseback riding at the Estancia to taxis — even responding quickly to texts or WhatsApp when we were out. Wait staff and bartenders were wonderful to us and our children. The property is lovely, intimate and tranquil. Rooms were spacious. Great water pressure in showers. Delicious restaurant with views of the ocean. Easy short walk on a dirt road to the beach. Kids enjoyed ping pong, fire out, etc. José Ignacio is a wonderful beach town with incredible natural beauty, amazing restaurants, and very few shops/commercialism. "

"Posada Ayana felt like a home far away from home. You are surrounded by art and beauty. The owners work with local artisans and artist giving the place an extremely cool and stylish vibe. The attention to detail is incredible and we were received with warmth and professionalism. The food was delicious and the cocktail guy made the best cocktails in South America. The rooms were really big and the interior design very nice. The bed and pillows give that last push into a deep sleep after a salty sunny day on the beach. The green marble swimming pool with view on the sea is so beautiful and on top of all, aJames Turrell sky space which can be enjoyed in the early morning or afternoon at sunset. We will be back very soon"
