Atagawa Onsen Blue Ocean

Atagawa Onsen Blue Ocean

📍 katase 1139, Higashiizu
★★★★ 8.1 (317 reviews)

"The staff were patient and meticulous, and they even offered service in Chinese, which was a great bonus. The room was spacious and bright, giving a wonderful sense of openness and making for a very comfortable stay. Considering the price, the value for money is outstanding, and the overall experience far exceeded my expectations. The only minor drawback was the weak Wi-Fi signal, which might be a bit inconvenient for guests who rely heavily on the internet. However, this is a small issue that doesn't detract from the overall quality, and I still highly recommend it."

Hokkawa Onsen Hotel

Hokkawa Onsen Hotel

📍 1127-14 Naramoto, Kamo District, Higashiizu
★★★★ 8.4 (292 reviews)

"Our overall stay here was a delightful surprise. Before booking, I was quite apprehensive after seeing a number of negative reviews online, which made me hesitant. However, once we checked in, I was truly amazed: the hotel boasts breathtaking, endless ocean views, and you wake up every morning to a stunning vista of the blue sea. The room itself was exceptionally spacious, more than enough for our family of three. The hotel features natural hot springs, not just heated tap water. My daughter even noticed the salty taste, which confirms the authenticity of the spring water 😂. The owner is incredibly warm and friendly, and can even communicate in Chinese. The only minor drawback is that some facilities are a bit dated, but for just 1,000 yuan a night, the value for money is outstanding. If your main itinerary involves visiting Izu Omuroyama and seeing the hydrangeas at the zoo, and you won't be spending extended periods inside the hotel, this place is an excellent choice. The drive along the coast offers continuous scenic views; the atmosphere is unique and incredibly therapeutic. I genuinely recommend it."

"This hotel is frequented by many elderly Japanese guests. Although it's a bit old, the service is excellent. It's not crowded with Chinese tourists. The grandfather at the front desk was very welcoming, carrying our suitcases and confirming our room details. All the staff were very friendly. The room, though old, was very clean, which my mother loved. She wanted to stay longer. For some reason, there were very few Chinese tourists, making it very quiet. The outdoor bath was also very clean and uncrowded, allowing us to enjoy the open-air hot spring all to ourselves! The meals were plentiful, and it was my first time experiencing a two-meal-per-night stay – a truly pleasant experience!"

"The first time was my first trip to Izu. The hotel we stayed in had an extremely nice environment, although it was an old one. But the facilities and services they provided were really excellent. It's highly recommended. Especially the breakfast, it had everything and was of the buffet type. The only thing to note is that when you make a reservation, you must definitely book the breakfast and dinner. But if you don't get them, there is also very delicious grilled meat nearby. And there is another one, a little bit further away, called Tokai Maru. The fish there is extremely delicious. It's really, really good. I recommend it to everyone💕"

"The breakfast and dinner provided were both delicious and beautifully prepared. We stayed for two nights and were offered different meals each day. Our room had a private hot spring bath facing the ocean, available 24/7, and the water temperature was wonderfully high. The staff at the inn were excellent; they even drove all the way to Izu Kogen Station to pick us up when we arrived in heavy rain."

"Located in western Izu, this hotel might be inconvenient without a car, but if you do hire one, it's excellent value for money. The scenery is reminiscent of Yunnan, facing the sea, and the food is fantastic – breakfast alone is enough to fill you up. The rooms are spacious, perfect for playing cards and drinking. The private onsen (hot spring bath) is also very good; you don't necessarily need to book a room with one. The service is also excellent."

"Parking is convenient, and the onsen (hot spring) in the room offers views of the sunrise. There are only 12 rooms in the entire hotel, and we didn't encounter any other guests while using the large public bath."

Izu Retreat Atawaga Suiko by Onko Chishin

"The hotel is in Izu Atagawa. The town is not big and there is only one Family Mart. You can buy snacks in advance. There is a small shop on the first floor of the hotel and a vending machine for instant noodles on the third floor. The hotel checks in at 15:00 and checks out at 10:00. Is this the rule for most Japanese hot spring hotels? 😃 There are Chinese service staff every day, but English communication is no problem. The ingredients are fresh and don’t feel dried...😯, black diamond users rarely comment, just happened to be there on the 24th, the picture below is the dinner that day, the hotel has some problems, but it is generally good."

"After watching the Atami fireworks festival, I arrived at the hotel at 11:00 PM. The front desk was deserted, and no one answered even when I called or rang the bell. At 11:30 PM, an elderly man finally showed up... but he spoke so slowly that the translation app didn't work, so communication was completely blocked. 🤣 The room was really large and clean, just like in the anime, but it didn't have a private bathroom! (You only get a random room type when you book, so maybe other rooms have bathrooms. 😭) So I had to use the bathhouse on the second floor. 😭 (I went there in the morning and again after 11:00 PM, and they were all booked! It was still hard to take a bath in the bathhouse without clothes in front of strangers. 😭)"

"Personality & Staff ◎ They were very friendly, kind, and attentive. They are quite experienced, but very reliable. They made up the futons for us and set up the room for our meals, which was very reassuring. Food ◎ As expected of Minami-Izu, the sea bream, sashimi, soup, and white rice were all very delicious. The portions were generous and it was as luxurious as it looked online. Since it was room service, we didn't have to go anywhere and could eat at our leisure in our own room. Guests ◎ Most of the guests were families. When searching for this hotel online, there were some strange comments about mixed bathing, but there was absolutely no sign of that, so we were relieved. Hot Springs ⚪︎ I think it's the same for all hotels in this area, but the water quality is good. Facilities ▲ The room itself was spotless and the cleaning was thorough. However, the room is in a dilapidated state, either having been renovated since the late Showa bubble era or not. The Japanese-style toilet had been converted to a Western-style one. Also, the bathroom in the room is so old that it's practically unusable, so I recommend using the private bath. Also, the walls are a bit thin, so you can hear the people next door talking loudly. (Caution) If you don't smoke, you'll immediately notice the smell of cigarette smoke, so I recommend checking carefully when making a reservation to see if there's a strong smell of cigarettes. (I think this inn was built during the bubble economy era, so it's somewhat unavoidable.) There's a DAIKIN air conditioner in the room, but when you turn it on, the smell of cigarettes spreads throughout the room. If the facilities were better, it would be a good inn."

"It's clearly an established, older property. The staff, though a bit older, were incredibly warm and welcoming, and translation apps easily bridged any language barrier. "This guesthouse, chosen for my trip to Minami-Izu, wasn't far from the city center. Service: They started accepting guests after 3 PM, offered parking, and provided welcome drinks. The staff were incredibly welcoming, and seeing we were a bit excited because there weren't many tourists, they were especially kind. Environment: As we were a family of four, the manager upgraded us to a larger room, which we were very grateful for. The environment was lovely, quiet, and clean, and the room snacks were delicious. Cleanliness: Although it had a slightly dated feel, everything was kept impeccably clean. We could even book bed-making time. The public bathhouse was also very clean and comfortable. Facilities: The public bathhouse was incredibly comfortable; it was so pleasant to have a beer outside. It wasn't crowded. We only booked breakfast this time, and the variety was great and delicious. There's also a small bar on the first floor where you can have coffee. In short: A very welcoming guesthouse! We experienced the joys of rural life, and the elderly guests were so adorable!!!"

Atagawa Onsen Blue Ocean ★★★★
"The room was very spacious, but there was a bit of dust, so the cleaning wasn't very thorough. Overall, it was still pretty good. The train station is about a 15-minute walk from the hotel, so if you're not too tired, it's a nice, quiet stroll. If you're tired, you can contact the hotel for a pick-up/drop-off."

"Facilities: Only 300m from Irozaki hot spring, facing the sea. They have staff who speak Chinese, and there's a shuttle bus to Kitagawa Station at fixed times. Experience: The beautiful Izu Station sign says that if you make a wish under the moonlight on a full moon night, it will come true. How touching! And you can make a wish at the rooftop open-air hot spring at night. Bonus: There's a self-service drink machine on the 2nd floor, good for when you're thirsty. Summary: The most beautiful part of Japan is its countryside. There isn't even a 7-Eleven here, just a small Mola mola (sunfish) shop where the grandma and grandpa only accept cash. You can fish by the shore, and on a clear day, the sea is crystal clear and icy cold. Paired with the warm water of Irozaki hot springs, it makes you forget about time. At night, the moonlight spreads across the sea like a shimmering blanket. Make a wish on the full moon; beauty transcends nationality. I just wish for world peace."

"The sea view room is very big, the view outside the window is very good, and the mattress is very comfortable There is a bathroom and toilet in the room, and a large sink on the balcony I didn't have high hopes after reading the reviews on Google, but it turned out to be surprisingly good. The facilities are indeed old. The two private hot springs on the top floor do look old, but they are not very dirty and seem to be cleaned every day. There is no elevator on the 1st and 2nd floors, but someone will help carry your luggage to the elevator entrance There is a shuttle bus to the station every morning, which can avoid climbing the death slope The front desk service attitude is very good There are vending machines and Izu milk vending machines in the hotel"

"Overall the location was great and there was a direct sea view from most of the rooms and the onsen. Some of the facilities are slightly dated. Whilst it is very costly, i do feel overall that stay was still within expectations. The biggest disappointment for me was the dinner where the steam fish served was not as fresh. Despite the feedback provided to the hotel, they could not do any service recovery and simply kept repeating that they could not do anything. This goes against the great Japanese service I have always encountered everywhere I go in Japan"

"Fantastic ryokan in Kawazu with only 7 rooms. Located by the beach, although there is a road in-between. Weren't bothered by traffic noise at night though. Service is top-notch and the food at dinner is amazing and varied. Very fresh seafood with the nightly sashimi platter a highlight. Breakfast is western style and a bit limited though compared with the dinner, but still delicious. Would definitely stay here again."
