"The ryokan fully met my expectations. The staff were very welcoming; they even greeted guests on the street with a list. At reception, a gentleman said my passport wasn't needed, asked how well I understood Japanese, and confirmed my preferred dinner time. Afterward, I was offered a choice of yukata and escorted to my room. The room had armchairs by the window, a TV, a wardrobe, a kettle with tea, and a welcome pastry with an offer to order more if desired. There was a sink and a toilet, but no private bath, as the onsen is meant to be used. For those who paid for dinner, you can book an outdoor onsen for private use for 1 hour free of charge. In the morning, these same onsens become communal. The public onsen is down a flight of stairs, one floor below. I was there alone. It has small towels, hair dryers, cotton pads, body lotion, scales, and a foot massager. The smaller outdoor onsens don't have these amenities; you need to bring your own towels. I recommend booking the hotel with breakfast and dinner, as there's nothing else in the vicinity apart from hotels and a couple of vending machines. The nearest shops and cafes are by Kawazu Station, about a 10-12 minute walk away. They call you to invite you for dinner and breakfast, and they try to have an English-speaking person communicate with you. Both dinner and breakfast offer a lot of food! And it's delicious, of course. For dinner, they provide a menu in Japanese. In the lobby, you can get tea, coffee, and ice pops. The seashore is close, just across the road and a short walk past the hotels lining it. The area is picturesque. How comfortable it would be to relax on the beach there in summer isn't entirely clear. The sand is grey, volcanic. Besides hotels, there are also beach houses on the shore."

"The service was quite good, but they only mentioned that breakfast ended at 9:30 AM during check-in, but they didn't say they wouldn't let us in at 9:00 AM, so we wasted our breakfast. Luckily, we bought some food."

It's a bit far from the main tourist areas, but it's an excellent value for money if you're just looking to enjoy a hot spring bath with a sea view. It's a ten-minute walk to Kawazu Station. The service was incredibly attentive and warm, making for a superb experience. There are also two public baths downstairs that you can reserve for private use. Plus, you get to choose a new yukata design every day."

The busiest spot was surprisingly Heigen Rock, which was full of men!"
