"You will not regret coming here! We loved the l spectacular views at the base of the Cotopaxi volcano while enjoying homemade tasty meals and breakfast. Our rooms featured warm cozy wood burning fireplaces - wow! The drive up from Machachi was an adventure but well worth it. The WiFi worked great on our iPhones in both the public areas and inside our rooms! A+++"

"Stayed with friends and had a great time. Aracely was a lovely host making us feel most welcome. She provided dinner and breakfast, both of which we really enjoyed. She had lots of local knowledge which we found helpful. Excellent rooms and, even though it was very cold having arrived from Quito, we were really warm in bed and slept well. A really great location, just a couple of minutes off the main highway - so easy to reach from Quito and also easy to get to Cotopaxi National Park. "

Chilcabamba Lodge

Chilcabamba Lodge

📍 Loreto de Pedregal, Machachi
★★★ 9.5 (69 reviews)

"We stayed in Chilcabamba lodge for four nights on a weekend. We had the most amazing view of the Cotopaxi Volcano in the morning and during our horse riding. The experiences that this places offer are good and very enjoyable. Only big problem from this place was the internet connection completely horrible, during night time was usually worse because of more guests on the hotel and we couldn’t even enjoy a movie on our room. This place have the potential to be a 10/10 but they have to fix their internet connection."

📍 Parque Nacional Cotopaxi, Machachi

"Overall, a pleasant experience but a few things should be noted Pros: we were able to move our reservation without penalty when a family emergency arose which was appreciated. The views are amazing! It’s the only lodging / resto inside the national park and so to wake up with views of Cotopaxi is just pretty darn special. Also the fresh bread (only for breakfast) is delicious and there is wifi in common areas (though can be a bit slow when others are using as well). We were able to book the horseback riding adventure (1 hour) and pay for everything at the end. Also, if you’re a foreigner, you can ask them to take off the IVA at least for the lodging portion. Loved that someone came to start the fire around 5:30-6pm every evening which kept the room nice and cozy. Cons: a bit outdated and found some hairs in the shower drain upon checkin. Towels are a bit sparse and overall, it’s more rustic vibes so if you’re looking for fancy, this is not the place. We stayed in the VIP house which you share with other rooms and so the common areas can get quite loud (already lots of talking at 7am since each room houses 5-8 ppl) so I would consider that if you’re sensitive to noise is to get a room or cabin that is separated from others. Also ask how many ppl are going on your horseback riding tour. We ended up on a tour with 20 other ppl and it wasn’t very peaceful since they were screaming at each other for photo ops and pics and so took away from nature. I’m not a horse person and so can’t attest to the health or welfare of the horses. They seemed ok to me but next time will book a private tour so can enjoy nature and maybe learn more about the park and how to properly ride a horse. Also since it’s inside the park, you MUST get into the park by 4pm and so it limits evening activities if you wanted to have dinner outside or use other services. So just something to note. Overall, the resto seems like a big stop for a lot of tour groups coming in and out of Cotopaxi. You can drive yourself to the parking lot of the Refugio and hike from there. If you’re looking for convenience and want to be inside the park, this is the spot for you. If that’s not important, I would suggest booking at other places just outside the park where they also offer spa packages and a wet/dry bath area to relax after a day in the mountains. Customer service was good though we speak Spanish and so cannot attest to their English speaking abilities."

Hacienda Los Mortiños ★★★
"Perfect location near the volcano, with nice meals and nice comfy rooms. The only drawback being having to give notice when wanting a hot shower. Would recommend."

Chilcabamba Lodge ★★★
"This was an amazing lodge with wonderful experiences. We stayed in the family cabin, and my teenage children were very comfortable in their two bedroom room off the central living room. The cabin was on the small side, but we spent very little time inside it. There was a wood stove, which was nice for the chilly evenings. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They helped arrange our transportation to and from Quito, and an amazing three hour horseback ride through the Andes, passing by waterfalls, lava formations from the local volcanoes and other beautiful sites. On our second day, we went on a full day exploration of Cotopaxi national Park. We started the day with an amazing climb of the mountain, Cotopaxi. We drove up part of the way, and then hiked to the base camp. We went slowly, because of the altitude. It is very high! We then had a little rest at base camp, before we elected to continue on to the glacier. It was amazing! It made us feel like true explorers. It was a difficult hike, however, we then traveled down into the national park, and explored some Indigenous ruins, and walked around a lovely lagoon with local waterfowl. We had a delicious lunch at a lodge in the park, and then went back to our own lodge for dinner. It was an amazing experience."

Hotel Tambopaxi ★★★
"Main asset of this lodge is its location, inside Cotopaxi Park and with full view from everywhere in the lodge on the volcano. Walking, horse riding and trips by car can be organised. Food is quite good, as well as internet connection (latter not available in Park)."
