Royal South Luangwa Safaris Lodge ★★★
Flatdogs Camp ★★★
"We have been on different Safaris over the years and first went to Flatdogs in 2012 and loved it. After travelling with my sister and husband in Tanzania Feb 24 and being disappointed with the culture of radios and chasing animals in the parks I talked them into south Luangwa and Flatdogs. What a trip it was! We stayed in the Crocs nest in our tented home with incredible meals, incredible staff and our wonderful driver Yotam. We dined by candle light listening to the hippos at night. It was hot but we had our private pool with wildlife passing by daily. Adrian, Jess and Paulo are the greatest hosts as is every staff member who greets you with a welcome smile. What stood out was the attitude and respect Flatdogs showed to the park. The elusive leopard that we have seen once on all our safaris was there daily relaxed and unafraid of the vehicles. All the animals showed a serenity when we got near them. No off road here and no loud radios calling every one to the location. Yotam knew the park back to front. He knew the habits of the animals, their favorite places to eat and drink, favorite tree to climb. You won’t always see animals on a Safari, different seasons etc and thick bushes but if you choose a good company your chances will increase and a good guide will show you other things of interest in the park. We gave our trip 10 out of 10 and spent money in the local community and at Project Luwanga. This is what a great Safari company does. It helps the whole community and has an interest in preserving this beautiful park. So when you plan your safari ( which Flatdogs will make easy for you) remember that you want an ethical company who has the local people at heart and wants to preserve this incredible area and also can offer you great prices in a variety of accomodation that suits a lot of budgets. This wasn’t a cheap holiday for us because of distance but certainly a highlight in our lives! Thank you to every one at Flatdogs."
Mopani Safari Lodge ★★★★
"Best service in Zambia. The food was amazing and housekeeping was excellent. The hot water and water pressure are issue which can be improved on. Shakil, Riaz, Precious were excellent providers for our group of 12. Also, Boyd and William were excellent Game guides."
Camp Sabali ★★★★
"I had a fantastic weekend stay at Camp Sabali. The setting was beautiful and peaceful. Leon and the staff were incredibly friendly, kind, and made us feel very welcome. The game drives in the emerald season were brilliant.I would recommend this stay to anyone wanting to explore South Luangwa!"
Shawa Luangwa Camp ★★★
"This was our first real safari and I was a little apprehensive about the tent but the whole experience was amazing and I am really hoping we will return to this camp soon. The location of the camp was great. We had quick easy access to the park just across the river. The guiding was exceptional. We are keen photographers and our guide Jacob understood exactly where to take us, how to get us the best view and also how to avoid other vehicles, often leaving us feeling as though we were the only people in the park. We saw so much amazing wildlife ranging from carmine bee eater colonies to giraffe, buffalo, lions (including cubs), hippos, large herds of elephant, wild dogs, hyenas and a leopard. We did a walking safari on one day which was really interesting. The camp was quiet when we were there so we had private guiding - the electric vehicles are great too. So much quieter and no diesel fumes. The food was good - you certainly don’t go hungry there! The bed was comfy and the indoor bath was good to have at night (or in the day to cool off!). It was pleasantly cool at night but pretty hot in the day. There was a fan however to cool you and the tent opened up to let a breeze through but not insects because of the screening, We had elephants in camp most days and nights as well as hippos. It took a couple of days to adjust to the night time sounds! But it didn’t feel unsafe in the tents on platforms. All of the staff went out of their way to make us feel at home. We did have a couple of issues whilst we were there, but they were handled promptly and really well. We stayed six nights and we could’ve easily stayed longer. We were seriously sad to leave. The camp was relatively easy to get to as it was on a regular charter from Lusaka followed by an hour transfer by Safari vehicle. Sundowner drives were a particular highlight. Sitting with a cold drink on the riverbank, watching hippos and elephants cross the river as the sun set is a memory I will have forever. "
