Boutique Villa Unaweza ★★★★

📍 Mnazi Mrefu, Matemwe

"Over the past year, I’ve had the chance to visit many resorts in Zanzibar, and Villa Unavewaze truly stands out. The atmosphere is peaceful and beautifully designed, offering a cozy and intimate escape. The staff are exceptionally kind, welcoming, and always ready to help with a smile. The food was another highlight – fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway or a relaxing break, this place is a perfect choice. Thank you for a wonderful stay – I will definitely be back!"

Zanzibar Bahari Villas

Zanzibar Bahari Villas ★★★★

📍 Muyuni Beach, Matemwe

"Nice hotel for Mnemba Island tour, very close to the Island and the hotel staff was perfect. I had the best massage ever listening to the ocean and in front of the beach. The food is fantastic and they do not serve alcoholic beverage, despite the fact that I drink, I liked the attitude from the hotel to keep their believe above the tourists. Old hotel that need a lot of maintenance and worst beach in the Island, a lot of seahedges. "

Zanzibar Queen Hotel

Zanzibar Queen Hotel ★★★★

📍 Kigomani, Matemwe

"Had a wonderful stay at this lovely hotel for 6 days in April. We had the Family Ocean View room which consisted of two very large rooms. Never had such spacious rooms before. Rooms were clean and in good condition. Room service excellent. The quality of food in the restaurant was our biggest surprise. Every day a good choice of food…very delicious. Staff very friendly and helpful. Despite Ramadan and less customers due to raining season the hotel was run smoothly and fully met our expectations."

"An excellent property to visit with family & friends. Very friendly management & staff. Very comfortable rooms. The chef also served us with some Indian Butter Chicken which was not on the menu.. but made it specially for my son.. Helped me when I had a problem with the next door hotel with rotten rooms."

Villa Kiva Boutique Hotel

Villa Kiva Boutique Hotel ★★★★

📍 49H2+6J7, Matemwe

"The hospitality of the hotel is amazing. They provided me everything I need, I had to catch a midnight flight and they even prepare me boxes of food just because I had breakfast included in my package. The vibe here is very chill. Highly recommended to have a stay here. Cons: food in general is abit salty. And choice is less"

Zoi Boutique Hotel Zanzibar

Zoi Boutique Hotel Zanzibar ★★★

📍 Zanzibar, Matemwe

"My 5th time staying at this small boutique hotel at the wonderful Matemwe beach. This probably says it all, love it and the peace and quiet of the place. I come here to dive and the collaboration with Sunshine Marine Hotel and Dive Point dive center makes it a convenient base. A few recent upgrades when the hotel changed owners and name (from Zoi Boutique Hotel) on 1 January 2025 were very timely, including adding ACs. Love the staff, their service mindedness and good spirit and will continue to return if they can keep their room and restaurant prices in check. I got a good deal as I stayed several days, but think high-season prices of USD 200+ is too much for a very nice and big, but relatively basic room. In my view, the restaurant menu could do with a rethink and a little more focus on local dishes, more seafood, vegetarian options and adding some more starters. It is slightly uninspired. Inspiration could be drawn from neighbouring hotels like Villa Kiva and Zanzibar Sunrise or the hotel next door."

Salama & Mbuyuni Bungalows

Salama & Mbuyuni Bungalows ★★★

📍 Unnamed Road, Matemwe

"What a place. I absolutely loved it here. I also loved all the people. All the staff are so friendly and chatted. They are very helpful and made are stay warm and welcoming. Paco is a diamond. Great company, works very hard and has built what I can only describe as paradise. The place is great value for money. All the food and drink is very reasonable. It’s about a 5 minute walk to Matamwe beach, where you can find alternative restaurants if you want to."

"Beautiful resort right on the beach. Amazing staff, well equipped rooms and accurate service. Spotless clean, we felt at home from day one and the staff made our stay even more enjoyable. We strongly recommend Bahari villas, this accomodation is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Zanzibar. Zanzibar Queen Hotel ★★★★
"Our stay at the Zanzibar Queen Hotel was truly unforgettable. From the friendliest staff to the most delicious food - it truly exceeded our expectations. We did the Have It All offer and stayed in the beach front bungalow with plunge pool. When we arrived at our room we were blown away (the photos don't do any justice!). We were given a beautiful and delicious fruit plate as well as a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine to celebrate our honeymoon. The room was very spacious, extremely clean and the bed was comfortable. The room had A/C, a french press coffee maker, kettle, tea, a mini fridge with soda and beer (which was included in our package), robes and slippers. Not all drinks and menu items were included in the Have It All offer but we found that there was more than enough items to choose from. The food was absolutely delicious. Every morning there was a breakfast buffet with pastries, fresh juices, coffee, tea, salads, fresh fruit and an egg station that also had waffles and french toast. Lunch was a la carte and there were plenty of options. Most dinners were served as 3 courses but one night there was a BBQ with a live band (SO much fun) and another night there was a Swahili dinner with drummers from different local tribes which was very cool! Yoga was offered at the hotel which we did most mornings. We also had excursions included in our offer - we did the sunset cruise, snorkeling trip and massage. The snorkeling trip was amazing and the massage was the best massage we've ever had. The sunset cruise was an experience but it wasn't really what we were expecting based on the description. We can't wait to come back!"

Zoi Boutique Hotel Zanzibar ★★★
"The Zoi Boutique Hotel is first class. We liked it so much that we extended our stay several times. The hotel area was perfectly maintained and the rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated. The location directly at the beach with marvellous white sand couldn’t be better. The food was delectable, wonderfully presented with an attractive, daily changing menu. And Gina, the best chef on the island, was fulfilling all our special wishes. But the best of all is the staff: All of them are very well trained, competent, exceptionally friendly and their dedication to their job is impressive."

Salama & Mbuyuni Bungalows ★★★
"Salama is a quaint and beautifully done up bungalow an a 10 minute walk from the beach. The staff here is extremely warm and friendly and makes you feel at home. The owners are welcoming and very helpful as well and make sure that you have a very comfortable stay. The restaurant in the bungalow has beautiful ambience and decor and serves delicious food at very economical prices. I stayed here for a short period of 2.5 days but thoroughly enjoyed it. You can also request for a taxi from the airport in advance and the owners arrange for it so that he can be easily picked up from the airport. If you're looking to go deep sea diving, this is near near to a few of the deep sea diving places."

Zanzibar Sunrise at Bandas ★★★★
"I would give it a 3.5 if it was an option…. Pros: excellent food, the resort is beach front with nice pools and live music, dining area is lovely and grounds are well maintained. Service was friendly and helpful. Cons : be prepared for long wait times surrounding meals—-a good reminder to chill out; there is little that is walking distance from the resort so meals are done primarily at the resort. Resort is a long drive to “tourist “ type areas. Walking the beach yields many locals approaching you to buy things which becomes tiresome. The rooms are quite dark, somewhat rustic and not fully enclosed , allowing bugs and the occasional scorpion inside although they do spray each room daily. No AC in all but a few select rooms."
