Overall a nice stay, lovely beach setting with beatiful pools with plenty of sunloungers around the pool and beach. Very picturesque! Was relatively quiet overall, though not situated in a great area for walking around and exploring (apart from the beach side which is stunning) Rooms are clean and pleasant and staff polite and try to help. Even after our flight was unexpectedly delayed they still waited and picked is up at the airport which was very much appreciated. Unfortunately for me it did however fall short of its boutique status. Several things such as taps and toilet roll holders fell off, had to ask every day for coffee/sugars to be refilled. The beds are solid/hard so if this isn't your preference i would be wary of this if staying more than a couple of nights... i got such a bad back that i asked at reception twice for a dry cushion from a sunlounger that i could perhaps use on top of my bed, despite saying this was no problem I actually never received it and resorted to using the cushions from my sunlounger from the room. (if you like a hard bed though then no problem, beds are personal preference so no reflection on the hotel for this, just something to note!) Breakfast was very meagre in their portion sizes for the price you are paying. The restaurant is lovely, situated by the pool and beach however very expensive and the food just average.... if you go right outside the resort there is a couple of small local restaurant selling authentic fresh food for a quater of the price which i would highly recommend and where we then started to eat every night. The hotel is super clean.. however having staff start cleaning and brushing outside your room waking you up at 6am every day was a little frustrating so perhaps a higher up room would be advised if you like a bit of a lie in. There is no air con... which it does state and we were aware of... however they do say the natural airflow is adequate... unfortunately not found to be the case... i had 3 fans in the room all of which they had on full time which didn't do very much and would have used more electric than necessary so sort of defeated the aim of being ecofriendly. I wouldnt recommend booking excursions or taxis through them. Very overpriced. They quoted us $90 for a taxi which we refused and got a local taxi driver for $40 instead and gave him a large tip putting the money straight into the locals. Overall a lovely place and despite my few shortfalls(which i was picky with due to the price and boutique status they advertise at) i would still recommend a stay here... just eat and book out with the locals!

Zanzibar Queen Hotel

If you are choosing a place to enjoy your holidays, getting away from crowd and enjoy peaceful moments, it’s definitely a right place for you. Hotel staff is very nice and helpful. Food in hotel restaurant is excellent, they offer different menu for lunch and dinner. Verify options for breakfast buffet, you will never feel bored for their food. Hotel offers yoga class on the morning daily except Sunday. Family or solo can also start with a “ Good morning “. There is a swimming pool, small gym room, different ball games for visitors to chill. Hotel is also connected with different Partners, no need to worry about the day trip prior arrival. They can plan everything for you including stone town visit, prison island , snorkelling. We just enjoy our time during our stay.
Villa Kiva Boutique Hotel

Small boutique hotel in Matemwe that has over the top service. I was there 2 weeks and after a few days they will call you by name. I was greeted at the gate by Mercy the lady running the place with a smile and hug. Facilities are nice and kept very clean. Separate beach area to keep the vendors from driving you crazy. Beautiful views. My only complaint was the food. I am a picky eater who doesn't eat fish or seafood so that ruled out a lot for me. Breakfast was a mix of to order and buffet items. After a few days I was dying for something different but we were not the typical customer who is only there for a few days before or after safari from what I gathered. Staff arranged a couple of wonderful private excursions for us that were well worth the money. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone who isn't a fussy eater like me. Staff made it absolutely wonderful and grounds are lovely. Huge shout out to Mercy, David and Dekker who went above and beyond for us.

Kena Beach Hotel

We stayed at the Kena Beach hotel between December 19 and 29, 2023. The hotel and the garden are very beautiful, clean and well maintained. The rooms are large and offer all the conditions. The staff is very friendly and well trained. We also celebrated Christmas at this hotel. Everything was wonderful and well organized by the hotel manager. Everyone was wonderful but Elizabeth, George, Grace, Ramadhani and Khalfan made our holiday perfect. The food was very good and very carefully prepared by the chef. We had many fruits and delicious sweets prepared by Chef. The service was impeccable. Also the recreational activities were great thanks to Kani and Momo from Oclub, who were sensational. The hotel's private beach is wonderful, supervised and well maintained by the hotel staff. Mr. Kombo, who lives right in Matemwe village, organized some memorable trips for us. We want to return to Zanzibar and obviously, we will spend our vacation at this hotel again. We recommend the hotel to everyone who wants a perfect and peaceful vacation.
