Our property spans 4.5 acres of forest on Mount Desert Island. You are welcome to walk the manicured paths and relax and rest in the chairs, benches, hammock, etc. that you find throughout the property.The basement apartment has two spacious bedrooms, a common area, and a bathroom with shower.A microwave, 10 cubic feet refrigerator, coffee pot, toaster, dishes, and a bucket dehumidifier are included in the common area. A Crock pot is available. A large fan can be found in each bedroom.Parking area has standard and 14-3 access.If you use the canoes or kayaks all individuals must wear life jackets (available and provided).We do have a right-of-way to Long Pond. Tucked away, down a private drive on Pretty Pond in Historic Somesville on a 3 1/2 acre wooded and grass lot, is our spacious 1,200 square foot downstairs 1-bedroom suite with a full kitchen and living area, full size washer/dryer with 2 private entrances, and large deck; facing over 1/2 mile of uninhabited woods and wildlife wetland that used to be part of Acadia National Park. It is very, very private and you won`t see a soul from your front deck or windows. Your suite features a large stone fireplace with a wood stove and leather sofa, wood beamed ceilings, and a 280 square foot country kitchen. It also has a separate TV area with a comfy sectional sofa and an extra large flat screen TV.Relax on the spacious 28 ft. deck with a stunning, unobstructed view of Ripple Pond with rolling wooded hills and multiple wildlife including bald eagles, deer, egrets, falcons, hawks, ducks, beaver, frogs, loons, wild turkeys, geese, and even the occasional sea otter. BBQ on the deck and enjoy indoors or out on one of our 2 large dining tables; or, head out to one of the many eateries on the island and enjoy some fresh Maine lobster, crab, or fresh fish! Sit by the fire pit after a long day of hiking Acadia National Park; which offers over 100 miles of nature trails with breathtaking views, or after touring one of the many quaint towns on Mount Desert Island.Our location is just 10 minutes to Southwest Harbor and 15 minutes to Bar Harbor, the popular tourist destination on the edge of the sea with many quaint shops and restaurants to explore. Smell the crisp, clean sea air of the Atlantic Ocean at Sea Wall with a picnic lunch about 20 minutes away. Visit one of the Local Craft Fairs or Farmers Markets in multiple places on the island. It's only a short 9-minute walk to Long Pond where you can swim, stand up paddle, or rent a kayak or canoe and paddle to Rum Island. Also within walking distance is Somes-Meynell Wildlife Sanctuary on Somes Pond where you can drop in your kayak or take a mile-long nature hike. On a warm day, you can take a swim at nearby Echo Lake only 5 minutes away. Enjoy the Town Dock on the Atlantic Ocean in Somesville just a few minutes away. A Prism in the Wood is an award winning architecturally designed home nestled in the woods of Mt. Desert, through which passes the constantly changing light of the Maine seasons. The house is a frame of steel tubes completely enclosed in glass with the living spaces within floating like platforms through the grid. A light steel stair reaches up through the steel tubes to the second floor and a further spiral stair connects to the owner’s private quarters on the uppermost level. The levels are also connected by a free-standing glass elevator, the use of which is reserved to people above 21 year-old without children.The ceilings are of unfinished fir planks and the floors of maple. All materials and finishes are hypoallergenic or chemically neutral.The structure is anchored at one end by the concrete mass of the fireplace that serves on the outside as a giant scupper carrying off the rainwater from the long sloping roof. Standing on light steel extensions of the interior frame the house floats above the forest floor, visually and physically connected at the entrance by massive slabs of granite. Furniture is of contemporary design, mostly manufactured in Italy and Denmark. Contemporary artworks are hanged on the wall, suspended from the interior frame and free-standing on the floor.This stunning property has been published several times in architecture magazines, books and on the NYT.
