"An excellent budget hotel with wonderful staff, walking distance from all the sights in Orchha. Aniket will welcome you with impeccable English and both a friendly and professional attitude. He has put a lot of work in providing guests with an amazing itinerary for sightseeing. Room was big and clean (I have to point out that the bed linens were one of the cleanest of the trip). Towels, soap and hot water were available in the room. Water bottles and sodas available to buy, as well as some food options. Aniket's father is wonderful too, helped me booked a tuk-tuk to Jhansi train station at 6am and even got up at that time to make sure everything was OK."

"This is definitely a hotel that’s made for weddings! While we were there, elaborate preparations were going on for a wedding that was starting the day we left so the place was transformed with furniture, lights etc over our stay. Our room was very large and freshly decorated with really lovely paintings as was the area nearby. It was very cold while we were there so we didn’t really benefit from the outside spaces in the hotel but they would have been great places to hang out at another time of year. The dining room staff were great - kind and thoughtful with very nice food. Oveall we enjoyed our stay!"

"I don't like writing poor reviews and in this case I'm sad because the Betwa Retreat was obviously a fantastic place to stay a few years ago. But that was a few years ago and there is evidence of neglect nearly everywhere you look. This was our 11th hotel of our trip, we booked various standards/price ranges. Had stayed at a homestay, a hostel, a tent in the desert and some more pricier hotels. For Khajuraho we opted to stay in the Swiss tents, we had stayed in something similar earlier on in our tour. We had a nice welcome at Betwa although we were faced with filling in two registration forms whereas everywhere else we stayed had only required one form. The gardens were lovely, obviously well looked after. We were shown to our tent and immediately began noticing problems. The place was not clean. The TV didn't work, the toilet was very dirty. Bedding was stained and had what looked like cigarette burns or moth holes all over. The kettle did not have an automatic shut off after boiling (a fire risk). The phone only worked intermittently. Very concerning was the mold growth on the tent fabric. Talking of fire risk, the tents were spaced very close to each other which I would consider a fire risk. And just to prove our point there was indeed a burnt out charred remains of a tent directly opposite us. There were 4 power cuts throughout the night. It's only one night, we will get our disposable bedding out and cope we thought. But around 7pm the neighbouring camp started up its music system. I am in the music industry and you only need to play music this loud when in a huge festival. The music went on till 11.35pm and not even professional earplugs and noise cancelling headphones could silence it. Breakfast was mediocre. Looking in some of the chalets, they seemed to be in better shape than the tents so if you do book here, go for them, especially the Heritage Chalet. The tents though should be condemned, knocked down and rebuilt. Such a shame as this is a beautiful setting, very close to attractions with lovely gardens. It's just very neglected."

It’s located in a calm area, yet just a few minutes from Orchha’s main temples and tourist spots. The room was neat, well-lit, and had modern amenities like air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and a clean bathroom. I especially appreciated the peaceful environment – perfect for rest after a long day of sightseeing. What really stood out was the personal attention from the staff. They genuinely care about guest satisfaction and are always ready to help with directions or arranging transport. It felt more like a homestay in terms of warmth, but with hotel-level comfort. "Great property, we stayed in poolside and river side also. The river is calming and you can walk till the river. It's a an old style palace hotel, the staff is warm and welcoming except for front office staff who i think get a salary cut if they smile and talk to a guest. They have a decent breakfast and scrumptious food. Also have live bundelkhand music performances. The hotel is easy to locate and gps would show you the right direction ram mandir and first are just about a kilometre away and so is boating and rafting on the river. Over all a good experience and would love to come back again."
