"This beautiful palazzo and its lovely, small city, were absolutely delightful! Charming, historic deluxe double room, with a beautiful large marble ensuite bathroom, and all of the modern amenities travelers come to expect: well working A/C, hot water, comfortable bed & linens, robes, a convenient small refrigerator and tea pot, breakfast included, and plenty of electrical plugs to charge your devices. Loved the chandeliers. The Arnaboldi host and his staff were also warm and gracious, offering historical information about the property and the historic relevance of Pavia, along with sightseeing suggestions (parks, churches, the river). Great central location. A lift or stairs. Enchanting first night in Italy, not far south of Milan by train! (I hate to spoil it for others.) -- Go!"

"The building is dilapidated, the furnishings, the room, and its layout are embarrassing. Camping beds and mattresses, and the bathroom and shower are to be avoided. I preferred not to wash myself rather than get a fungus. The cost is excessive and it's unacceptable that in 2025, these kinds of accommodation facilities still exist in northern Italy, scamming tourists... an experience to forget!"

The care that the employees of the Moderna take in order to welcome and assist their clientele was unsurpassed in our eight visits to Italy over the past half century. Our room, though not large,was equipped with every modern convenience, the lighting,the bed, the storage closet and the spacious bathroom were designed for maximum comfort. The dinners served in the well appointed dining room were excellent; the breakfasts deserve a five star rating. Our six day stay in the Hotel Moderna was totally rewarding. The decor of the otherwise smart lobby and elevator landings would be mightily improved by removing horrid unattractive sculptures and dreadful artificial flower/botanical decorations."

"I don't recommend it for non-smokers. The rooms smell strongly of cigarettes, the bathroom and facilities don't work properly, and you have to pay extra for air conditioning, which is very far away and quite expensive. The only good thing is the staff's attention; they were very friendly, even though the address on the reservation wasn't the correct one, and I waited 40 minutes for them to open the door."
