"The so-called 'sea view' was actually just a tiny glimpse of the sea from afar, across a road. Room facilities: The curtains weren't very blackout, especially in Room 5, where light from a large LED screen on the street outside shone in all night, making it impossible to sleep. The hairdryer was incredibly weak; it took half an hour to dry my hair. Breakfast was very basic and had to be eaten at another hotel dozens of meters away. Varenna itself isn't particularly scenic, but it's convenient for transport, making it good for ferry-hopping between towns. I spent days trying to find a satisfactory hotel in Varenna before my trip, only to discover upon arrival that there are actually quite a few B&Bs and hotels along the lake that just aren't listed on Ctrip."

"BEFORE you book , ask owners if construction / building work opposite has been completed. Train station is being upgraded this means it’s very noisy from heavy machinery from about 07:00 till quite late at night. We were only informed by owners , once we had booked and fully paid, which felt perhaps they should let people know BEFORE they book, fortunately we were only there for 2 nights. The noise from the trains and cars on road outside can clearly be heard , especially as balcony door doesn’t close."

"Excellent location directly above the train station (not noisy) and a few blocks walk to the lake, shopping, restaurants, bars, the ferry etc. This lodging location is nearly brand new, very modern, with an excellent kitchen area, full refrigerator and other kitchen appliances, an outdoor patio right off the living room that has views of the lake, surrounding mountains, the activity at the train station, etc. The owner/manager was very friendly and helpful at the last minute when our intended lodging location fell through. The cost here is also reasonable considering that you're at Lake Como with all of the amenities provided here. [There is not laundry.] I've stayed in Varenna before at Villa Monastero which is beautiful with its gardens and on-the-lake location. Residenze Decimina is a much more modern place, about the same walking distance to most of the places you'll visit in town, but at a much more reasonable cost. No gardens, of course, but still a very good option for a place to stay in the Varenna / Lake Como area. I would absolutely stay here again when I return."
