"This hotel enjoys a prime location on the shore of Lake Pucón and within easy walking distance of Pucon. The grounds are a joy and very well maintained. The decor and fittings of the hotel are dated, but have a certain charm, as do many of the hotel’s staff who go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The reception and bar staff were top notch. The maid service was exemplary. However, our 4-night stay was somewhat marred by the hotel’s design making rooms very vulnerable to noisy neighbours! Sadly, good quality produce was spoilt by poor cooking, which we found disappointing, especially for dinner. The breakfast buffet though was good."

Good facilities to do your own cooking, and a nice quiet area to relax. Great helpful staff too. We needed to check out late, and they allowed us to use the common areas all day, until we caught our night bus."

"This hotel has lovely well kept grounds with a wonderful view of the lake in front and the volcano from the back. There is about a 20-25 minute walk to a waterfall in the grounds. We had a top floor level suite which meant we didn't suffer from any of the noise coming from wooden floors above like some other guests had. It had a great view on to the lake the only downside was the small balcony on the side with a disappointing view over the roof. The room had a kettle and even twinings tea bags and a small fridge which was useful. The barman Hugh was very generous with giving me milk for my tea. The staff were very approachable and friendly and it meant we enjoyed our stay even more. Ignacio, Hugh, Saatchi and Andres made the stay special. Points to work on; The bathroom was spacious and but the shower was badly designed, it was impossible to shower without water drowning the floor. There are limited places to sit in the grounds only a few seats on the terrace and sometimes smokers sit on that. Perhaps in High season there are more areas. Or perhaps people just spend time on their balconies. The breakfast was not up to scratch for a hotel of this class. It was the most disappointing part of the stay. The jam was poor quality and the amount of fruit served was a tablespoon. We weren't allowed to ask for more fruit which was very surprising but this was soon rectified by speaking to the receptionist. However, even then on the second day we got more fruit but on the 3rd only I received some more. The scrambled eggs on one day were inedible being very salty and runny. There was also no choice of egg. The breakfast didn't lack in quantity but did in quality. Birds fly into the large windows concussing themselves so it would be good for the hotel to put perhaps some stickers or something in the windows to reduce this although I understand they may not want to for aesthetics. "

I would recommend a capable vehicle to get through some mountain trail, but the views are well well worth it."

"The hotel is poorly maintained, the pools are not well painted, there are spots that need paint. There is a heated pool that is in a building where the roof was removed, it looks sad. The service at the restaurant is bad because they have few waiters, the breakfast is bad, the avocado is out of a bag, the eggs are like brown, little variety of things. The exterior paint is old. The plastic lounge chairs. We wanted to go to the spa, we went down and they told us that we couldn't go without making an appointment, even though there was no one there, but by far the most precarious place is the heated pool."

"This hotel lives and breathes 1950s authenticity. Great rooms with real fireplaces, very comfortable beds and walk-in wardrobes to hide cases - a real bonus. The views of the lake are impressive but apart from the minimalist design it is the staff that make the difference . Everyone was genuinely friendly and there to help. I thought the food in the restaurant was good but not great but the lake views again fantastic. The spa is a great place to relax with a roaring fire , sauna and large pool. Don’t expect a big chain hotel environment and in a few areas it lacks that bit of sophistication and needs some smartening up - but there is real charm here that grows on you the longer you stay."
