"Stayed for 3 nights in this very friendly welcoming hotel. My room was ready as soon as I arrived on the morning ferry from Loutro. The use of sunbeds for hotel guests was a great bonus as was the wonderful restaurant and ever helpful staff. On my last day my ferry didn't leave till 17.30 and I was allowed to keep my room till then at no extra charge. Absolutely wonderful genuine people I will definitely stay again."

Livikon by the Sea

"First of all, we booked our room from hotels and it said we were getting tge suite which was a bit bigger, but when we got there we were told that all room sizes are the same basically. So if you are planning to book here, book the cheapest option you get. If you are going by car and you will put in the GPS Livikon by the sea as we did, you will not get any results. Better write: from Samaria to Livikon. It will take you there to Chora Sfakion. When you get there there is no entrance directly to the hotel because it's on the beach in front of restaurants only for pedestrians. You should park at the Square and the guy from the reception will give you a card so you can have free parking or else they have one or two spots you can park behind the hotel if they are available. Every room is Sea view, the beds are comfortable, the shower has good pressure and it's big enough. Not big, but big enough. There is shower gel in shower and a small fridge in the main area. We had an issue with the air condition but they immediately took care of it and changed our room. It was good that we had air-condition in both rooms since we were three people (other places in Crete have only one air condition for the bedroom and main area of the apartment). There is no elevator to the rooms. The rooms are located above some restaurants, patisserie,  mini market,  so we had everything we needed on our feet. We were treated with refreshments upon arrival which was nice of the lovely lady at the reception. There is a boat nearby (booked with Deligiannis boats-you pay on the boat) that took us to Loutro which I looooved! I said that next time I would book at least a night to stay at Loutro and enjoy the calmness it offers! In general I would book Livikon again! "

"Perfect location in this corner of heaven. From check in to check out the service was amazing. The room was lovely, comfy bed, kitchen and awesome shower. Don’t use the hot tub but with a beach on the doorstep why would you!"

Sfakian Horizon

"Horizons is a series of rooms and two roomed apartments at the very back of Chora Sfakion: excellent for view but a hard walk down to the main village. We had a two roomed apartment. Ghastly bathroom: small shower area - hand-held shower- stickty shower curtain. One doublebed bedroom with TV, very poor lighting but with access to private balcony: another room with a poorly fitted (cheap?) kitchen area, some ill-made upright chairs ( the backs were not fitted correctly), one day bed and a TV. Breakfast was a buffet with coffee /tera. orange juice (good), four sorts of bread (fresh) cereals, fresh melon, yoghurt, honey and orange jam, spanokopita or tiropita, cucumberm olives, tomato, little apple turnovers, rizogala, and hard boiled eggs, hot scrambled eggs and hot bacon. Well presented. We paid 90 euros cash per night for the two of us to use an apartment and have breakfast. not bad value for money. The snag for us was that to get to a room you needed to walk down stairs. These are Cretan stairs: no handrail and there was no overwhelming willingness to help with our bags. (I am elderly and find stairs very difficult). However while there was no offer to help us load our car when we left, no praise could be too hogh for the ladies who cleaned our apartment daily. Excellent service"

Sweet Corner Masxali

"Overall our stay was pleasant: the room was large enough, we saw the sea from our balcony, toilet was big enough not to feel cramped and we had a kitchenette with everything except a pan for Greek coffee (which we like). The staff was friendly, they picked us up from the harbor and drive us back when it was time to go. The food in the restaurant was reasonably priced and very tasty, both during the day and in the evening. The private beach they have was nice although the path there is a bit steep, so it may not need the best choice for the most frail. For everyone else it poses no challenge. There are free sunbeds and umbrellas (in varying condition) as well as some tables. They also have a canoe and a “water bike” so if you use those you could save tens of euros during your stay compared to other options. There is no service on the beach but I don’t see that as a bad thing, just something I wanted to mention to those who look for full service. But those probably go for all-inclusive places anyway. The bed was very good in Greek standards, and we’ve tried several dozen different ones over the years. The moussaka we had one evening was the best I’ve ever had. Truly home made in their own way, from fresh ingredients and cooked the same day. I’d walk there for that from the town center (which is 300m away). The location is one of the bonuses of this place: it’s “far away” from everything else so it is SO quiet there. I just loved that. One day we got to enjoy a pack of goats just outside the balcony. One big minus (for the whole town) comes from all the lights everywhere. This town is supposed to be one of the very few places with little light pollution and we were hoping to do some stargazing. Yes, you can see some stars but the lights everywhere just hides most of them. What an opportunity wasted. Note, this isn’t a fault of the hotel, it’s the street lights on the roads that spoil it all. It’s just that this one is away from the center so they would have a perfect chance to take advantage of that if the lights could be turned off after some time. So pluses: + quiet + beds + nice views + all you need under one roof (if you want) + moussaka (had to mention again) Minuses: - sunbeds/umbrellas in varying condition, not as nice as in places that charge for them. Still very usable - light pollution prevents you from enjoying the amazing skies (but this goes for the entire village) I would heartily recommend this place to anyone wishing to enjoy Agia Roumeli. It doesn’t prevent you from checking out other restaurants and sights and you won’t even notice the crowd coming out of Samaria gorge in the afternoon filling all places as they don’t come that far."

"We had a wonderfull time at Fata Morgana. Beautiful appartments, clean and complete. The view is great! The help and service of the owners was warm and more then we could imagine."

Daskalogiannis Hotel

"We absolutely loved our three night stay here, even though the weather wasn’t kind to us. Our twin bedded room (#7), on the second floor, was really large with a lovely balcony looking straight across at the mountains as they spectacularly tumble down to the water’s edge below. The beds were comfortable and the ensuite, whilst not swish, was fine with plenty of hot water and the usual complimentary toiletries, as well as some unexpected extras including a dental kit and shaving kit. Breakfast was a simple and unhurried affair - actually, I think everything about Crete and its people is wonderfully unhurried! - sitting alongside the crystal clear water and enjoying freshly prepared orange juice, gorgeous Greek yoghurt with fresh fruit and a selection of pastries, bread and jams. Eggs were also available on request. The quality of the breakfast was excellent. Service was very good, although we were surprised to find that our bedding was changed after two nights (we were only staying for one more night). Bizarrely, though, only the bottom sheet had been changed and the top sheet and throw had been left on the bed, folded up, for us to re-make! We weren't sure if this was the norm or whether it was an oversight by housekeeping; it made us smile, though! We found the staff to be so helpful and friendly, with special mention to Ioanna who insisted on carrying our suitcases down the jetty when we were preparing to leave and catch the ferry (the ferries pull in directly across from the hotel, as well). Pavlos (not sure if I have remembered his name correctly) is quite a character and interesting to talk to, even if he does have to compete with his vocal sidekick, Coco the parrot! We had a fabulous stay here and Loutro really is a very special place although, apart from hiking in the mountains, swimming in the water or taking a boat somewhere, there’s little to do other than relax which is exactly what we did. A stay in Loutro, even in the rain (!!) really does offer the perfect antidote to stressful living and the Daskalogiannis Hotel is the perfect place to stay."

"The hôtel is horrible, the rooms are dirty and unconfortable, the ladies at réception were smoking near my window although I told them that I have a health problem they ignored me and they were very rude to me, horrible expérience I advice not to go to this place"
