"After the Lion Rock came out, the hotel was quite remote. I felt that I had walked through a hotel in the wilderness. I didn’t dare to leave the hotel door at night. The room was large and quiet. The place to eat was at the pool, breakfast and dinner were at The hotel solved it, there were not many varieties, and there was no problem in eating. When I left, I found a piece of clothing falling in the hotel and called to contact me. I said that I would go to Colombo three days later and let the hotel express to the Colombo Hotel. I promised very well. During the period, I repeatedly asked if I had no problem, but I still didn’t receive it in the hotel three days later. I called and said that I hadn’t sent it yet, so that I finally didn’t receive the clothes when I left Sri Lanka. It’s also a pity~"

What truly made the experience exceptional was the owner. He was incredibly friendly, helpful, and always went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. From offering great local suggestions to organizing transport for us whenever required, his support made our trip even more enjoyable and stress-free.

The property boasts three distinct swimming pools, including an infinity pool that appears to merge with the lake, offering breathtaking vistas. Dining at Heritance Kandalama is a culinary delight. The Kanchana Restaurant offers an extensive buffet with a variety of Sri Lankan and international dishes, all while providing panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Absolute quiet, no noise, no chaos, just nature and peace. The staff were genuinely kind, warm, and always ready to help, not the forced hotel-smile kind, but real hospitality. And one non-negotiable: get the massage. No exaggeration, it was the best massage of our lives — the kind that completely resets both body and mind. If you’re coming here, don’t skip it. Some places you visit, some places you feel — this one stays with you.

AAleksei ZobovThe hotel is nice, spacious beautiful room at check in we were treated to a refreshing juice. There is a big pool on the grounds and a big jacuzzi with hot water in the room.
Minuses of the hotel:
Far from the attractions. Taxi from the center only go there for the price of pick me x2. Hotel taxi are 3 times more expensive. There are no stores and restaurants near the hotel, so inside the hotel prices for food x3, Also after 6pm it is dangerous to be outside because elephants are walking around. Now let's talk about the premium status and the five races. In 7 years of traveling, this is the first hotel that did not have a bathrobe, slippers and toothbrush and toothpaste in the room. The plumbing in the shower leaks, and the doors creak so much that you could call the spirits at night. Regarding the attention to the customer. I mentioned my upcoming birthday in conversation with the manager, but this fact was not used in any way to show any form of attention from the hotel. This is a huge miscalculation on the part of the staff at a premium hotel. We also had a late departure and our request to delay in the hotel for a couple of hours was refused. This was not due to the arrival of new customers, as the manager offered to extend our stay for a fee. For future customers this fact may be decisive in their choice. In general, the hotel is not bad, but the service and flexibility of the staff, as well as individual approach to customers, does not correspond to the premium level and requires improvement.

The guest room is similar to a single-story villa with a large bed and a small bed, and can accommodate three adults. CChris&MariaThe location is fantastic, especially if you want to enjoy views of the famous rock right from the pool — it’s truly a highlight of the stay. The buffet is generous, offering a good mix of local and international dishes, so there’s something for everyone.
We stayed in one of the bungalows, which were spacious, surrounded by nature, and perfect for a relaxing getaway. It was a treat to spot different animals around the property, which added a unique charm to the experience.
On the downside, the bike rental is significantly overpriced, and it seems that very few guests use them because of this. Additionally, many amenities — even something as basic as extra water — are quite expensive, which takes away slightly from the otherwise enjoyable experience.
Overall, it’s a beautiful place in an unbeatable location, with great food and lovely surroundings, but some of the pricing policies could be more guest-friendly.

GGuest UserKalundewa Retreat has an amazing concept and a beautiful, secluded location that really stands out. The surroundings are peaceful and unique, making it a lovely place to disconnect. That said, there are visible signs of wear and tear in certain areas, and some aspects of property maintenance could be improved.
However, what truly made up for this was the hotel team — their service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The food was excellent and clearly prepared with care, which added greatly to the overall experience. With better upkeep, this place has the potential to be exceptional.

We have room with 2 king beds and it is good enough width for 2 adults and 2 kids. and also keeping sanitary.
Staff gave the good hospitality and providing good services in restaurant.
Just one concerning is VISA card cannot work well in Dambulla area.
