"We’ve stayed here twice now and it is just excellent. My wife and I are golfers and the nearby Buenavista course, designed by Seve, is fabulous on a stunning location 10 minutes from the hotel in Los Silos. There were quite a few hikers staying also. Warm and amusing reception from Alonso. This time we stayed half board for four nights which included a three course meal each evening. The food is good and the service is top notch. The staff are the happiest bunch I’ve seen in a long time - which says a lot for the management of the hotel. Our room was comfortable as was the bed. Great swimming pool which my wife did her laps in each morning. I hope we get back. Ray Stewart"

Hotel Hacienda del Conde Melia Collection Golf & Spa – Adults Only

"Said to be a SLH, but in our opinion, it's neither small (117 rooms over 8 floors) nor luxurious. A 4* golf hotel would be a better description. Our suite was great; with a hot tub on the terrace, a sitting area with tv, minibar, tea and coffee, a walk in wardrobe, large bathroom with walk-in shower, bath and twin sinks. What appeared to be air-conditioning was, in fact, heating. The hotel solarium was a very exposed rooftop. The spa pool consisted of 3 plunge areas from cold to hot but too small to swim in and the room was far too cool to lounge in. The outside pools were too cold to venture into in January. The breakfast buffet looked impressive but a very peculiar mixture of foods and a hot buffet swimming in unappetising trays. Evening meals were much the same. The fine dining restaurant with a tasting menu apparently only took one booking every fifteen minutes, so the restaurant was virtual empty and without atmosphere. Similarly, for the wine bar, a converted chapel despite the number of residents. The Italian restaurant was a little better, but the food and service were mediocre If you're staying here, consider eating in buena Vista town or at the excellent little restaurant on the coast below the golf course. The town is within n easy walking distance and there is a bus stop nearby."

"Small but perfectly formed boutique hotel. Lovely building, location, rooms and such amazing attentive service. With 20 rooms it is very tranquil and restful, even in the pool. Great breakfast. Only minor issues and they were minor, couldn’t find any English language TV channels and missed an early morning coffee in the room. (although there was room service)"

"A recommendable place, with beautiful views. The owners are very attentive and friendly. The apartment is very spacious and clean, with everything you need. The only drawback is that some neighbours are a bit uncivil, but otherwise everything is very, very good."

Isla Baja Suites

"We stayed in room 6 the Attic which is very large and spacious, more an apartment than a hotel room. It was well furnished, comfortable and enjoyable to stay in for a few days. The building is a restored and preserved original Canarian wood mansion and its great that these buildings are being preserved and used. Where else will you find 14 inch wide floorboards. The wooden ceilings in other rooms are amazing. Having said all that there are downsides. The hotel being only 6 rooms is not staffed by management daily, there are cleaners and laundry personnel on site but management seems to be remote. Breakfast is supplied by a separate business running a patisserie in the alcove during the day, It's ok, varied but nothing special. Our room was spacious and comfortable but being Sea View was exposed to the road noise which you have to accept, it's not too bad but don't expect silence, there's a music school next door too. The room really needs a very good clean, every chrome surface from the kettle to the shower needs descaling and polishing. After 2 days we noticed an infestation of ( we were told ) wood eating moths. We could see the eggs in piles on the floor in several areas. The management were not very forthcoming about the exact species causing the the problem despite being aware. We hope we didn't bring home any eggs in our luggage. Our concerns about this were dismissed and the owner was not transparent about the issue. Garachico is a lovely place to visit for a few days."

Gara Hotel

"This hotel has a huge place in my heart. It’s a simple but beautiful Canarian building, with lovely wooden features and beautiful tiled floors. It’s very simple - we stayed in room 10 with a sea view. Very basic but extremely clean and tidy. The best thing was the shared terrace overlooking the lagoons and the sea. I don’t remember staying anywhere better for watching the ocean. Miguel and his team were very kind. Not luxury but simple beauty. Thank you. With luck on my health we may be back."
