"A necessary premise, first of all: anyone who wishes to read should arm themselves with patience, they will have it for a while. Much for work and a good deal for pleasure, in my more than half-century of life I have traveled and frequented hotels, both in Italy and abroad, from "half-star" to 5-star. In my experience, what makes a property fantastic, rather than something to be forgotten, is not the number of stars but the specific weight of its quality. I have wonderful memories of "modest" establishments, but with quality to spare. On the other hand, what is jarring and quite annoying, beyond the feeling of being taken for a ride (and a wallet), is coming across establishments that, often with ill-concealed pride, pin medals on their chests that, when put to the test, melt like snow in the sun. Clearly, when I say establishments, I am referring to one or more people, since establishments do not have a life of their own. Almost always, there is one person: for better, but especially for worse, great leaders do not appreciate co-pilots. In this context, the deus ex machina of the Granpanorama Hotel Sambergerhof, Herr Stefan Brunner, is no exception: in brochures and other documents and informational materials, "...your Brunner family" appears everywhere, with or without a photo. Not that this is in itself a bad thing, one might argue: even in Bavaria, for example, the name of the owner or manager of the hotel, inn, or other establishment often appears. In reality, one would simply write "Fam. Brunner," which is commendable, put in these terms. Moreover, the line between proposing and imposing can sometimes be dangerously thin. With this in mind, let's now examine, by topic and as objectively as possible, these seven days spent at the Sambergerhof. Reception: upon my arrival, Mrs. Angelika greeted me with "dry cordiality." In the days that followed, I had the opportunity to appreciate her professionalism, helpfulness, and patience in accommodating my and other guests' needs and requests. The owner took over at reception. Dealing with him (and inevitably, I needed to, it was my first time in Alto Adige and everything was new to me) was one of the most strange experiences I can remember, and certainly not in a positive way. For example, a question requires an answer, especially when asked by a white-haired person, especially when the question makes sense, especially when asked by a customer: silence and indifference are usually not the most welcome reactions, regardless of age. But we'll talk about the owner's strange way of interacting, at least with me, in the Owner topic. Breakfast: given the variety of the offerings and the quality of the products, I've rarely found better options. However, I found it curious that the croissants (only two types of croissants) were not available."

"I'd like to start with the positives. The staff are incredibly friendly. The garage is a good size. The swimming pool is also very nice. Unfortunately, I can't think of anything else positive. I traveled to the hotel with my wife and dog. We were greeted warmly and offered a welcome drink. Since it was very warm, we wanted to enjoy it on the terrace. As soon as we stepped onto the terrace, we were "greeted" by a loud honk from the construction crane opposite. At that point, I immediately considered getting back in the car and leaving... But we decided to give the hotel another chance. After our drinks, we went to our room with a view of the Dolomites. Upon entering the room, we were met with what felt like a sweltering 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit). I immediately went looking for the air conditioning switch. No luck! There was no mention of air conditioning anywhere... Our mistake... We opened the balcony door and were greeted once again by the crane operator... Our view fell upon what we later learned was a retirement home. Shouldn't the Dolomites be there? Yes, you can see the Dolomites, but that gray box is always in the foreground... The night was a disaster. We couldn't leave any windows or blinds open because the cars driving down the mountain would shine their lights right in our faces. It got hotter and hotter, and our dog couldn't stop panting. We didn't get a wink of sleep either. We hoped we could at least sleep in the room during the day. Unfortunately, that wasn't possible because of the construction site across the street. We then asked at reception for a fan. The staff searched in vain for one. When I asked where I could buy one myself, I received no answer... They promised they would find one and bring it to our room. Unfortunately, we waited in vain for the fan. So, the night turned into another nightmare. On top of that, a delivery arrived at 4:00 a.m. that was impossible to miss. That was the last straw, and we told reception we wanted to leave. The friendly gentleman checked with his boss and informed us that we would have to pay the full price for the two nights and half price for the following night, since we wouldn't be staying. This was despite the fact that there was no mention whatsoever of a construction site across the street. We also searched in vain for the promised hiking trails and green spaces for walking the dog. The food was okay, but apart from the portion size, it had nothing to do with a 4-star hotel. I've even had better half a chicken at Oktoberfest back home. We unfortunately cannot, in good conscience, recommend this hotel to anyone."

"Words cannot describe how much we loved our 4 night stay in this superbly renovated 700 year old castle. Elisabeth and her wonderful team went out of their way to make our stay special. Each morning Elisabeth would help us with our plan for the day and because of this we saw the most spectacular parts of this beautiful region. Breakfast was exceptional as was dinner in the restaurant. Pre dinner drinks outside in the beautiful courtyard with the mountains as backdrop was also very special. A nearby pool and sauna in a picturesque setting were also available, a wonderful treat after a warm day of exploring! Thank you Elisabeth, Peter and I will definitely be back."

"Terrible experience. We went with our dog for €25 a day, for no service; they don't even have a lawn for them to play. The carpet in the hallway and on the stairs is dirty, full of hair and stained with urine stains. Breakfast was very poor: the croissants were defrosted and the donut was stale and dry... there was some cereal, but nothing else. A 4-star hotel with nothing. The furnishings are outdated; they should renovate the building. In the morning, we found a piece of glass and black hair from other dogs on our table; they only changed our table after we pointed this out. Mountain water costs €4.50; they fill bottles with their names written on them... They don't have a double mattress, but they put two single ones with springs. Ours weren't even the same height; we pointed this out and they put a topper on them. I wouldn't recommend staying at this hotel to anyone."

"We spent 1 week in this family-run hotel where the family air breathes. In 4, we found good services for adults and also for boys with the game room (billion, ping pong and arrows on all). A large indoor pool and a very relaxing outdoor hydromassage. There is also a further outdoor pool but we haven't used it. Very comfortable also the subtirole pass (included in the package) to move freely with public means (buses and trains of South Tyrol - always check the tracks covered by the service. The girl was lunch at the family meal (see photos attached - meal reachable with bus + easy walking at about 1:30). The guests of their hotels offered grill, vegetables to the plate cooked at the moment by the owner Walter and with the Mrs. Sieglinde's valuable help. Music and humor have completed the day. They have made us feel like a trip outside with friends. Excellent food of their own production (groenten, vegetables, salsa, cheese, meat). Note for Anezka, her service at the table has always been excellent, and we have been good thanks to her."
