"We came here, unplanned, as our nearby hotel claimed to have a/c but it was a centrally controlled system set to hot in mid May in Portugal! Our priority was thus effective a/c and comfort. These were abundant in this modern recently and expensively refurbished hotel in an old factory on the outskirts of town. The distance was only a few minutes by car, and was very quiet and peaceful. The only downside was a flight of 8 steps between the ground and lower ground floors to carry luggage down! We were helped by another guest on arrival with our cases. This lack of forethought seemed at odds with the rest of the thoughtful provision. The breakfast buffet was interesting and ample. There was an restaurant in a nearby enormous building and space, with good food and attentive service x and very few customers when we were there."

"Delightful small Hotel by the river centrally located. Parking a bit limited as there is only one official spot however in low season it will not be an issue. Clean room though the bathroom slightly dated and in need of modernisation. Walking distance to the local bars and restaurant. Breakfast basic but sufficient to set you up for the day."

"We only stayed 1 night, as part of our road trip, with my adult daughter and her boyfriend. We enjoyed the secluded pool area and the heated pool,a very relaxing experience. The bar service was a bit sketchy due to being short staffed, but it didn’t spoil our overall experience. The food was beautiful even if the menu was a bit limited. The grounds were amazing and the rooms were comfortable, with very swish bathrooms. The “kids” enjoyed playing with the dogs and walking in the peaceful surroundings. I loved it!"

"Perfect accommodation for a family trip, welcoming atmosphere and the owners are charming and extremely friendly. As we were travelling with a small child, they gave us a room change completely free of charge so we could be more comfortable. Despite the fact that the bathrooms are shared (something we already knew) they were spotless at all times. In short, a fantastic place (although be careful with the mosquitoes in August!) and the owners of the accommodation are 10/10. Thank you very much for everything!"

"Despite arriving in some of the most hideous rain and wind weather possible, QdaC gave us a cosy, luxurious, delicious and completely pampered experience. We felt so lucky to have found this place. There was evidence everywhere that in peak summer season, this is definitely a rockin' family place, but as we found it is the quieter shoulder times where you can take really a breath, spread out and connect into something very special. From the thoughtful and fun architecture and art, (FYI, we discovered the Dior flagship shop in Lisbon ALSO has a textile sculpture by Joana Vasconcelos) to the meticulous decor emphasizing local and global originality. The immaculate and meditative vegetable and herb gardens and landscaping with hidden corners and surprises there's a peaceful and playful energy uncommon in many places of this caliber. We ate and drank, (and ate and drank...) VERY well and the spa experiences and facilities brought a new level of natural healing and deep relaxation. But even with ALL of this amazingness, for us it is the people, (with the help of two fabulous cats) at QdaC who make it five stars. ALL of the staff, (gate house to baristas, front desk to masseuse) manage a high-wire act of impeccable professionalism, highly knowledgeable information sourcing and good fun. We learned bits of new languages, had some great laughs, got the inside scoop on special places from Carvalhal to Nepal - all of it thoughtfully celebrating over and over how interconnected we all are/NEED to be, in this world right now."

"Alàpega is one of those places you never forget. The setting is absolutely stunning – surrounded by the peaceful Alentejo countryside, with a pool that feels like part of the landscape. Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. Breakfast was delicious, with fresh local products that made every morning special. What really makes it stand out is the atmosphere: calm, stylish, and welcoming, yet never pretentious. The team was warm and attentive, always ready with a smile or a good suggestion for things to do nearby. We left feeling completely recharged and already know we’ll be coming back – next time for longer!"
