Rothay Manor Hotel

"A two night stay for six people, for a ‘big’ birthday. A lovely hotel in a great location. The rooms were finished to a high standard, the public areas of the hotel were too which significantly added to the ambience. The meal in the restaurant was perhaps one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten. My only slight grumble was that the front of house staff need slight improvement, both for conduct and appearance. We had two mistakes on our bill- please carefully check your invoice prior to paying! Overall a great stay for a special occasion- stay for dinner if you possibly can!"

New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel

"The hotel is on a mountain. From Windermere Railway Station, take 555, turn 516 and take the bus to the terminal. The scenery is picturesque and the air is fresh. The little girl at the front desk is enthusiastic and lively, and there is electric heating in the room, which is so happy for Britain, which often has rainy days. The food is great, the steak is delicious, and you can actually drink Guinness."

"Perfectly located in the centre of Ambleside yet in a quiet street, the hosts Caz and Steve offer a most welcoming and attentive service with helpful recommendations of the best places to visit locally and favourite restaurants. There are a good selection of restaurants from which to choose in Ambleside offering a variety of cuisine. The room was comfortable, thoughtfully and tastefully furnished and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was delicious, with a choice of options cooked freshly. There is also private parking available which is big plus in Ambleside and great if you wish to leave the car parked and go walking. Overall very pleasant and a fantastic value B&B."

"The room was very clean, and the service was excellent. We arrived after 10 PM, but the front desk staff were still waiting for us to check in. Their attitude was very good, and the breakfast was delicious. It exceeded our expectations, and I highly recommend this hotel! It's also convenient for getting around! Plus, the room is absolutely gorgeous, with a stunning mountain view."

"Amazing location close to centre and staff all very welcoming. The room was modern and cosy, large TV and coffee and tea/biscuits left out. Great that they provided body wash. No fridge in the room so don’t take anything you need to keep cold."

"We had a lovely stay. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the rooms were comfortable and had character. The tea and coffee facilities were particularly good, with a cafetiere in the room, and fresh milk always available in a fridge downstairs. Breakfast was not included, but the Apple Pie cafe next door, part of the same organisation, did superb breakfasts. I would recommend their toasted bath buns. My wife and I were in a double room at the top of the house, and there are some low beams so we had to be careful not to bump our heads. Our friends were on the first floor and had more headroom! They have electrical vehicle chargers which we were glad to use. "

The Britannia Inn

"We had a lovely meal and the local draught beers are excellent and obviously well maintained. The staff are also excellent at helping to find a table for the walk-ins. One word of warning though - the wine is horrendously expensive. A 250ml glass is £9.50 - this is for the cheapest wine, and bottles of wine start at £28.50. We come from London, so we’re used to high prices but this is absolutely absurd. We intended to return later in the week with family who were joining us in our lodge - because the food is so good! - but those sort of wine prices spoil it. A shame."

Great Langdale Bunkhouse Hostel

"Me and my partner were so so grateful for Vicki's hospitality. We'd been staying at Great Langdale campsite when a storm hit and our tent didn't hold up against the rain. We had gone to the local pub to see if there would be any rooms on the off chance but with it being Summer and very last minute, they couldn't accommodate. The pub's maintenance man quickly got in touch with Vicki who kindly got us sorted with an available space in the bunk house. We were so grateful to have a clean room, with lovely powerful warm showers and a bed to rest our heads. Easy access and prompt communication made it super smooth for us to get into the bunk house and get dry and rested. We would definitely stay again. "
