"Small shower and toilet, noisy but okay with the price, great location but DISGUSTING service and irresponsible staffs"

Waterhead Retreat - Ground Floor, Private Entrance, Parking and Light Breakfast

📍 The Fisherbeck, Old Lake Road, Ambleside
★★★★ 8.3 (5 reviews)

"The location was ok - a short 10 minute walk to the village centre. There was no check in or staff available on-site, but they were quite quick to reply on WhatsApp. The room was nice but it wasn’t as clean as I would like (cobwebs in the corners and the fan hadn’t been moved when cleaning so when we moved it there was a lot of hairs/dirt on the floor). It wasn’t good that the hotel only told us that there aren’t enough parking spaces for all guests until after the time that we couldn’t change the booking - you play a game of roulette if you want a parking space - they can’t be reserved."

YHA Hawkshead

YHA Hawkshead

📍 Hawkshead, Ambleside
★★★ 8.4 (40 reviews)

"The room was bit dirty, particularly the shower. Definitely bring flip flops. I felt safe throughout the experience (I am a 16 year old girl). The continental breakfast wasn’t bad (apart from the near stale bread.) Good value for money. Not too long a walk from the village."

📍 The Fisherbeck, old lake Road, Ambleside
★★★★ 8.6 (58 reviews)

"The WiFi connection was quite poor, not sure if it’s because we were at a corner room, but everything else was great, very clean and spacious room, will definitely consider again upon our next visit to the Lake District"

Windermere Rooms at the Wateredge Inn

Windermere Rooms at the Wateredge Inn

📍 Waterhead Bay, Ambleside
★★★★ 8.7 (79 reviews)

"The location is definitely the best, but I felt the service was a bit lacking because the hotel doesn't have a proper front desk, and the hotel and restaurant are quite a distance apart. However, regarding breakfast, remember not to just eat the free dry bread; you can tell the front desk staff what you want for breakfast. Those breakfast items over 20 pounds are free, but the free dry bread might stop running before 10:00 AM."

The Waterhead Inn- the Inn Collection Group

The Waterhead Inn- the Inn Collection Group

📍 Lake Rd, Ambleside
★★★★ 8.2 (100 reviews)

"Great location, right next to the lake and ferries. Saw they left the bed sheet and towels on the floor for house keeping, wonder how clean it will be."

YHA Langdale

"Of all the Youth Hostels I have visited this has to be the best I have been in. A great place with fantastic views. Staff there were absolutely brilliant. Very helpful and friendly especially Will and Thomas who went out their way to make everyone there feel very welcome, so a big thank you to you both. Will be visiting there again"

Crow How Country Guest House Hotels in Ambleside

Crow How Country Guest House

"A hidden gem hotel for those driving! Facilities: You need to carry your luggage on your own floor. The facilities are complete and well-maintained, including a hot towel rack. Cleanliness: Clean and tidy. If you need housekeeping, you need to proactively hang up a cleaning sign. The bedding smelled fresh with laundry detergent. Environment: I especially loved this room. It was quiet and private, with views of the backyard garden and large lawn, where you could occasionally see lambs. Service: From check-in to check-out, it was quick and private, with minimal disturbance. I was very happy. I highly recommend the breakfast; it was super delicious! 😋"

The Britannia Inn Hotels in Ambleside

The Britannia Inn

"We went to have a meal at the Britannia Inn at the beginning of September. It was a late summer’s evening and the seating area at the front of the pub provides a scenic view of Elterwater. I had the 6oz Cumbrian Beef Burger, which includes Smokey bacon, cheese and chips. I wasn’t disappointed and worthy of note is the fact the portion sizes are generous. My wife had the Brit Plant Burger, which includes vegan cheese and chips. She wasn’t disappointed either. The burgers are slightly more expensive than some pubs but you are in the heart of the lakes!"

Brantfell House Hotels in Ambleside

Brantfell House

"This family-run guesthouse is clean and cozy. They're very talkative, so if you speak English well, you'll have a great time chatting with them. They also provide breakfast cards where you can choose your breakfast for the next day. The food is plentiful and delicious. Just indicate your breakfast time and enjoy it."

Rydal Hall Christian Retreat Centre Hotels in Ambleside

Rydal Hall Christian Retreat Centre

"We really loved our stay at Rydal hall. We stayed on a campsite near the waterfall and had a great view of fields. It was peaceful and loved that we could have our own fire. However, the toilets were a bit of a walk away and you can't park the car next to the tent. Sometimes the noise of the waterfall got in your head a bit. But that's the only negatives. We plan to come again sometime!"

Waterhead Retreat - Ground Floor, Private Entrance, Parking and Light Breakfast ★★★★
"I was so surprised to book such a great hotel! My son, who studies in the UK, said this would be considered a luxury hotel there. It has its own private entrance and a very spacious bathroom. The Lake District gets quite cold in the evenings during summer, but the heating worked perfectly. You can see sheep on the hillside right outside, and it's not a far walk to the town. Sitting in the courtyard, you can enjoy the scenery. The owner is really nice and responds very promptly when you need something. The instructions provided via WeChat were very detailed. A truly satisfying stay!"

"The indoor shower was locked with out notice for some exclusive use and every other visitor are forced to use outdoor shower, During check in or booking this was not communicated at all. The WiFi and Network are pretty terrible. So better take some other form of networks."

"Stayed here for my boyfriends 21st and was amazing. The self check in was easy, room was lovely and clean, bed was very comfy, we did not want to get up on the day of check out that’s how comfy it was and fantastic location. I kindly asked them to decorate the room for his birthday and they did which made the stay more special. Will definitely return here again!"

"It's right by the lake, perfect for morning and evening walks. The housekeeping department was almost deserted, and the drain was clogged, but I fixed it myself."

"Stayed here whilst cycling in the lake district for a week. The hostel is a little bit outside of Ambleside, but there are a couple of routes you can follow to get to the town. Staff were really friendly and helpful, especially when it came to finding somewhere to store my bike. There isn't great signal in the hostel, but that is to be expected when staying in the lake district. I stayed in a dorm room, but private rooms are available if you want. I chose to self cater (kitchen is large and well stocked with utensils), but you can choose to be catered for if you'd prefer."

"Me and my husband stayed for 1 night, check in was smooth and the staff are very friendly, using first names at breakfast was a lovely touch. Room was clean, spacious and airy. It was a bit hot with the window closed but a fan was provided in the room. Breakfast was lovely, not greasy and good variety. Would highly recommend a stay here."

"Had a perfect stay at the Rothay Manor Hotel. It was our first trip to Ambleside. The hotel is situated within easy walking distance of the town centre and you can easily access the boats that cruise up and down the lake; the weather was kind to us on the whole of our trip. Our room was lovely and the staff were excellent. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was tremendous, the food and service were exemplary. We will definitely be back. Thank you."
