Antay Hotel & Spa

Antay Hotel & Spa

📍 Av. Chile 1108, Arica
★★★ 9.0 (61 reviews)

"Not a 5-star hotel by international standards. More like 3+ or4. Pros: - 2 pools (1 indoor—requires bathing cap; 1-outdoor) - Connected on 3rd floor to “The Boulevard” an outdoor shopping center with >10 different restaurants and bars - Spacious room with nice bathroom Cons: - Hot water is not hot, just lukewarm - Only 2 towels provided - Outdoor pool lacks sufficient sun umbrellas, I.e. there are numerous chaise lounges but no coverings over them to protect from blazing sun - Insufficient staffing at front desk during busy check-in/out time so we had to wait 15 minutes to check in"

Hotel Diego de Almagro Arica

Hotel Diego de Almagro Arica

📍 Ing. Raúl Pey Casado 3105, Arica

"It needs to be made clear that there was nothing inherently wrong with my stay at this hotel, hence the still-solid four star rating I’ve given. The rooms delivered in comfort and functionality, and the people at check-in/out and the on-site restaurant were friendly and very helpful. My issue boils down to how much I was charged to stay here. Read the details of my experience below: - Location and atmosphere: The property directly faces the Pacific Ocean and affords awesome views. One can walk to the beach and a few nearby restaurants fairly easily, although I didn’t spot a way to get to the beach without having to circle around the front of the building. Inside, the atmosphere is dated, but things are still clean. Only one elevator was functioning when I stayed, but it didn’t cause too lengthy of a delay to access. I encourage the property to begin renovations as soon as possible. - Service: All the employees were warm and friendly. The reception folks spoke proficient English. When I needed to load my electric wheelchair onto a taxi, the workers who came to assist with the lifting were so gracious and willing. Moreover, a member of the housekeeping team I encountered upon walking to my room was very cordial and sweet. The service here is excellent. - Room: I requested a room facing the ocean, and my request was granted. While the views didn’t disappoint, the amenities in the room were minimal, and the furniture and bed was quite basic. Of course, I’ve never stayed at this hotel before (which is apparently part of a Chilean hotel chain with locations all over the country), so I certainly could’ve arrived with expectations too high. Nothing was terrible about the room, but something could’ve been added or polished to take it a step further. It was just very basic and ordinary. - Value: I’m honestly doing this hotel a favor by reserving my criticism in the “value” category rather than the “service” category, because the argument could be made that customer service resulted in this. I’m choosing to say this here because I truly don’t think the hotel staff were aware or purposefully trying to overcharge me. But they did, both literally and in terms of how I perceived my very basic room to be. I should’ve paid online in advance; whoops. What would’ve cost me (including taxes) $75-ish USD on any major booking site, had I just taken three minutes to connect to Wifi and reserve it on my iPad, ended up costing roughly $125 at checkout. Mind you, I had specifically checked the sea-view rooms online, not simply the lowest-tier room in the hotel. I also only bought two bottles of water, surely costing no more than $4 USD each. I was grossly overcharged. I attempted to explain this and ask for a lower amount, but a combination of the language barrier and the fact the bill was inevitably final left me owing far more than my stay was worth. I may stay here again for a great price if I can pay in advance online, and especially if renovations to rooms and"

Le Prince Arica

Le Prince Arica

📍 Calle General Lagos 639, Arica
★★★ 6.9 (9 reviews)

"Bad experience, starting from the fact that once at the hotel they charged me more than what was indicated at the time of reservation, so I only stayed 1 night! As for the bedrooms, small, hot, although they have air conditioning, but it either lacks maintenance or is of very low quality, because being at 16° it did not cool the room, the bathroom had a strange smell (I don't know if it was the pipes or that) but it was unpleasant, despite entering at the indicated time, they had not replaced either the shampoo or the soap, so it had to be requested and that took a while, hot water was not maintained, although due to the weather it is clearly not necessary, but If you are a person who showers with hot or warm water all year round, this place is not appropriate. Regarding the reception, not much to say, as in any hotel, they give the necessary information and apart from the problem of replenishing things, I did not maintain further communication. Regarding the breakfast (which is included), it is very poor and bad presentation, it was 1 bread with 1 sheet of cheese cut in half and likewise the ham, a little butter, jam and sweet puffed corn with a yogurt and a glass of juice (very sweet and warm for my taste) and what was the icing on the cake WAS THAT BEFORE CHECK OUT THEY HAD DISMISSED THE ROOMS, thank goodness we already had everything organized, but before the 12 in the afternoon that they indicate leaving the place, the room was already being tidied....NO COMMENT"

Hotel Apacheta

Hotel Apacheta

📍 Avenida Comandante Juan Jose de San Martin 661, Arica
★★ 9.1 (41 reviews)

"Your reading this review, because you saw that picture of the hotel, and yes it does look like that at sunset. The view from an upper room if equally striking. What are the drawbacks: no a/c, no fan, no heat - so keep that in mind. Cooling breezes, yes and no. Room was warm to hot during the day - comfortable at night and the waves breaking on the rocks can cover most noise, except when an early rising fisher decides to crank up his music at 5:30 am. As noted in the other reviews, the building itself is a little careworn, but no significant problems. Breakfast was ample and good. Had dinner in the hotel one night and that was very good albeit with limited wine selections (note you have to reserve and make your menu selections early in the day). Traffic and parking around other Arica restaurants can be a pain, so it was nice not to go out one night. I was really put off by the lack of a fan in the room, but the character of the place won out and I'll probably remember this hotel when I've forgotten most others."

Novotel Arica ★★★★
"I didn’t stay at the Novotel, but I dined at their on-site restaurant for dinner while in Arica for the night. The food was delicious and reasonably priced, and the service was friendly, albeit on the slower side. Moreover, Wifi didn’t work at first, and it took a bit to troubleshoot the issue with it. In the end, I managed to get a signal. Provided the Internet connects more rapidly, I would return to the Novotel’s restaurant in the future (and perhaps actually stay at the hotel, too!)."

Hotel Arica ★★★
"The Arica Hotel was the worst experience I’ve ever had. The rooms were dirty, the air conditioning was broken. The bed in the suite they moved me to had spiders and large ants. The bar service was terrible. I ordered dinner, and they never delivered it because they forgot about it. I was left waiting for more than an hour."

Antay Hotel & Spa ★★★
"I would avoid this hotel. It calls itself 5 star but the management must think it is 2 star because they treat you very poorly. The room was very nice and the gym fantastic – but that is where it ends. Firstly, we were told very clearly that we needed a card to get towels at the pool and that, if we lost it we would be charged $20 each. This is a 5 star hotel – cards to get pool towels is ridiculous. Then we left a book in the restaurant and when we went back the next day no-one had any idea what the procedure was regarding lost property. We did get it back eventually but how did no-one know where lost property was held? Poor management! The restaurant staff were terrible – at no point did anyone every come and ask us if we wanted to order or if we needed anything. We had to go to them every time – even though there were 5 or 6 of them milling around – it was very strange. But the most bizarre thing was when we mentioned that we had run out of coffee pods in the room and we were told we had to pay for them!!! We were in a suite, in a 5 star hotel and being told we had to pay for coffee pods. These are just a few examples of the poor service - ther were many more. Just not good enough –I have no idea who is managing this hotel but they clearly have little to no experience. There must be better options in Arica. "

"We loved the Hotel Apacheta. The location, right on the water, was stunning. It was so lovely to relax on our balcony and watch the waves come in. The food in the restaurant was really good and it was a fabulous place to sit and watch the sun set over the water. A very peaceful spot!"

"Despite arriving from the bus terminal before 5 a.m., thanks to the very helpful night porter we managed to get into our room for a tiny extra amount, and grab a couple hours' sleep. Breakfast was on the shaded roof terrace, and was pretty good, although only instant coffee. Our room was cosy, but enough space for one night. Comfy bed. A/c worked well. Bathroom small but hot water when we needed it. Very handy location -- 10 min walk to bus terminal and MallPlaza; a couple more to the beach."
