"Very bad service, no internet, expensive food in the restaurant, old rooms, bugs"

"I think this is probably the best hotel in the city, or at least the best hotel with a good central location. Everything that I say about the hotel has to be taken with great of salt in that it's in a country where not all of the comforts and amenities that you would have elsewhere or available. I thought the Crystal Hotel was a good option. I had an enormous room that was quite comfortable. The shower was good with hot water, the bed was fine, and it was quiet. Doing it again, I probably would've splurged to get one of the rooms that has a balcony looking out on the street. That would have been nice. The staff were extremely helpful. They help me with making local phone calls and we're just generally very friendly and pleasant. The room came with free breakfast, which was excellent and had lots of options including more traditional and vegetarian breakfasts. Allegedly, there is Wi-Fi at the hotel, however I was never able to get it to work. It would say that I was connected but after about 30 minutes of trying to access a web page it would just fail. But one knows this going to Eritrea, that the Internet is going to be an issue so this did not come as a surprise. I really loved the street that it was on and the location. It was a short walk to countless restaurants and cafes. The area around it was quiet and pretty, and as with the rest of the city it felt completely safe. If I were going back to Asmara I would definitely stay here again."
