Kurokawaonsen Yamamizuki ★★★★

📍 6392-2 Manganji, Aso District, Minamioguni

"Choosing Sansuimoku for my first onsen ryokan experience was absolutely the right decision. The unagi don (eel rice bowl) was delicious, and the Japanese-style room felt like it came straight out of an anime. We picked room 303, which had a private onsen, and it was truly amazing, though the room did have a slight sulfur smell. The onsen water at Sansuimoku was fantastic; my skin felt incredibly smooth after soaking. The private onsen in the room was quite hot, so I had to add some cold water to enjoy it. The outdoor women's bath offered a beautiful view, with a waterfall and a babbling brook, creating a very serene atmosphere. The next day, I visited the onsen town, but I still preferred Sansuimoku. I highly recommend it to anyone traveling by car."

"Big and spacious room! Only issue I had is the public bathhouse hahaha got a culture shock when I realised there’s no shower in the room then I realised it’s public 😂 Luckily there wasn’t anyone when I was showering but you could also use the onsen facilities in Yukyonohibiki Yusai (2mins walk) Free cup noodles and water in the room with coffee machines in the recep area Overall a pleasant stay and would recommend if you’re driving (There’s not much in the onsen village imo so better to drive a lil out to eat) but if ure planning to stay in the village only I’d recommend staying in a proper hotel with full facilities within the hotel"

📍 Manganji 6690, Minamioguni

"The experience was excellent! First, the service was impeccable. When we arrived at Kurokawa Station, our local SIM card didn't have a number, so we couldn't make calls. We found a gas station and asked a local to help us call the hotel. The hotel immediately sent a car to pick us up in 5 minutes. Upon arrival, they even carried our luggage directly to our room on the second floor. All the staff greeted us with a bow. When we left, the hotel also provided a special car to take us to the station. This kind of pick-up and drop-off service made us feel very safe. Second, the room was larger than most Japanese hotel rooms, with a bed and tatami mats. The decor was stylish, with a separate wet and dry area. The entire hotel's decor was very Japanese. Third, the onsen (hot spring) was excellent, with both indoor and outdoor baths. We were told there were seven different types of spring water, no wonder it's a favorite spot for locals. Fourth, we ordered breakfast, which was not only delicious but also beautifully presented. The breakfast changed daily, the ingredients were fresh, and many ingredients were prepared by the owner himself. Highly recommended! Fifth: One of the waitresses was a young lady from Shanghai surnamed Li. She was very patient in explaining and helping us with any problems we encountered. Thumbs up for her service! 👍🏻 In short, during our time in Kurokawa, in addition to breathing the fresh mountain air, seeing the rustic wooden Japanese architecture, and soaking in the relaxing mountain hot springs, we also experienced warm service. We will definitely come back next time we have the chance!"

"I stayed in a glamping tent and it was very comfortable. The food was delicious and the service was first-rate. It was a shame that we couldn't use some of the open-air baths due to the season, but there was a sauna and everything was well-maintained."

The Aconcagua Resorts Hotels in Aso District

The Aconcagua Resorts

"The resort location is accessible actually by bus from tateno 立野 station and the last bus is in the evening you may check the timetable online. We did not drive and leaving the accommodation is less convenient because all taxis were booked out but the staff was very friendly as to driving us to the nearby train station to continue our journey to Aso Volcano. Service was good. The private onzen was amazing and we were able to use it for one hour. The public bath was good too but the amenities they provided inside were not as enough, eg they don't have comb for ladies and make up removing pads. Other than that, cleanliness was amazing and staff were friendly, rooms had amazing Mountain View's."

"It is located in a quiet countryside, making it a great place to relax. The facilities are old, but well-maintained, and there are several hot springs, so if your goal is hot springs, you will be very satisfied."

Kurokawa Onsen Oku No Yu Hotels in Aso District

"I searched extensively for accommodations while looking into Kurokawa Onsen village. The staff was incredibly friendly and we were quickly transported to the ryokan by car. The room was a traditional Japanese tatami room, which was spacious and clean. Perhaps because there are so many hot springs, there was no shower in the room itself. The open-air bath and the large public bath were wonderful, and it was even better because it was raining. We also opted for dinner and breakfast, which were both exquisite, delicious, and beautifully presented. I would love to visit again!"

"The room was very clean and stylish. The service was very friendly. The bad thing was that there was no breakfast or dinner available, even for money. Luckily there was a restaurant on the other side of the river where you could get food in the evening. Really good onsen. The best sauna I have been to in Japan."

"Cleaner. Breakfast was not booked in advance and could not be added at the last minute. We had to run out to find a place to eat. There is a public hot spring, but I couldn't experience it due to limited time. Simple accommodation can be affordable"

Tsuetate Keiryu No Yado Daishizen Hotels in Aso District

"My family and I stayed in the VIP room during the New Year holidays. There were two tatami rooms and three rooms with reception sets, so it was spacious. There were two toilets and washrooms, and an open-air bath. The open-air bath in the room was not a hot spring, but it was nice and open. The refrigerator was stocked with wine, beer, tea, water, etc., and we had all-you-can-drink. We went to the dining hall and had a banquet meal. The meat and rice were delicious, but it was a bit disappointing that it didn't have the New Year's atmosphere. There was no explanation at the dining hall, so we only found out that there was a drink corner after we had finished eating. They seemed busy, so it may be inevitable, but there was no explanation of the food. I was disappointed with the meal, even though we paid 100,000 yen. There are no souvenir shops, games, karaoke, or other amusements at Daishizen, so the building is quiet and nice. You can walk (there was a shuttle bus) to Hizenya and enjoy bowling and the large baths. The staff at the reception were very helpful."

"Nanjeon Onsen. Recommended! I managed to book this lovely ryokan that was listed as “full” on the popular booking sites, by going direct to their website. They are super good, read on! 1) Before we came, they wrote email to check our dietary requirements and prepared bath bags according to gender/ size. 2) We were delayed by traffic and wrote to tell them that we may not be able to reach in time for 6pm dinner, maybe half an hour late. Then, because we arrived in the dark, we missed the turn and got lost. They sent a young guy staff to help > limited English, Papago app helped a ton! We googled and re-drove our way out. Then arrived like 7ish, starving and cold. An older guy and the young guy greeted us. The older one told the younger one to tell us not to worry, to go eat first and then check in later. (Some onsens will not serve dinner if you are late!). 3) When we entered the dining room, the lady staff serving explained all the food laid out beautifully for us. And then continued as they served up one course after another till course 12. Course 13 was thoughtfully served to our room so we could rest and have our dessert. The young guy staff took our passports to do the check in while we ate. 4) Then when we wheeled our luggage in, the elderly man was quietly waiting to clean our luggage wheels one by one before loading into the hall. He does not speak much cos his English is non existent and will come across as abrupt. But if you observe, you will know that he is very thoughtful. 5) The beds were nicely laid for us when we took our luggages up. Yukata, warm coat, toe socks, a bag with smallwash towel, toothbrush and comb were provided. Men bag had shaving cream pack and shaver. 6) The baths were indoors/ outdoors, male and female separated. There are also two private baths, one open to nature and one enclosed. During hours that are open to public, the private baths will be key-entry only for guests while the outdoors communal ones are open to all. Indoors are still guests only. I tried all. It was lightly mineralized baths. My skin felt very smooth after. 7) Food is superb. Very intricate 13 course dinner, very filling. Horse sashimi (basashi) tastes like Parma ham with no salt. Should try. 8) Parking is convenient. They are located just next to Tourist Information centre."

Kurokawa Onsen Yumerindo Hanadomari Hotels in Aso District

Kurokawa Onsen Yumerindo Hanadomari

"I stayed at Yumerindo Hanadomari from the 15th to the 16th, and I had a double room in the annex Hanadomari. After booking, I emailed my questions, and the hotel staff answered each and every one of them with utmost sincerity. Above all, the staff were incredibly friendly. Everyone at the hotel explained everything in detail and went out of their way to provide convenience for Korean tourists. The food was delicious, and I loved both the private hot spring bath in my Hanadomari room and the open-air hot spring bath. I would definitely return, and I'd love to visit the Aso region of Japan again, if only to stay at this hotel."

"Rooms, open-air hot springs, service... almost perfect! I could easily stay here for two or three days alone and not get bored. If you arrange it in advance, the driver will pick you up from the bus station and also drop you off when you leave, so there's absolutely no need to worry about transportation. I'm so glad I chose this hotel; thankfully, I didn't stay in the center of Kurokawa town, which was too crowded and a bit noisy. Why 'almost'? Because the duvet didn't have a proper cover, just a thin sheet separating it, which got messy every time I moved. It didn't feel very hygienic or comfortable. The food was just okay, nothing particularly outstanding, but it was filling. However, the dining environment was very pleasant! Overall, this is a hotel I would highly recommend to friends!"

"The hospitality was awesome! The Ryokan Villa is a beautifil sanctuary itself where you can roam around, looking at the majestic mountains and the carefully curated floral. Alightly away from the bustling Kurokawa Onsen Village area which was a blessing. This Roykan is nestled in the higher in the mountain area just about 2 mins drive away fm the Onsen Village. I liked that we could use the sister ryokan onsens which were walking distance and had views of forests, mini waterfalls and streams. The villa rooms are so spacious with our own soaking baths and hotspring water. The food is alqays something to look forward to. Most of all it is the the staff who made our day, ensuring that we have the best time and anticipating our every need."
