Kosugi Resort Lodge

Kosugi Resort Lodge ★★★

📍 2052 Otohime, Aso

"Very spacious apartment with the balcony facing the mountains. Great view! It is about 5min drive off the main road. Very quiet at night Only issue is that I went there in winter and the hot water was not hot enough for shower"

KAMENOI HOTEL ASO

KAMENOI HOTEL ASO ★★★★

📍 5936 Ichinomiyamachi Miyaji, Aso

"The hotel itself is located in the beautiful nature and it’s very relaxing. The food is sooo good and the onsen and public bath area is amazing too!"

Kamenoi Hotel Aso Park Resort

Kamenoi Hotel Aso Park Resort ★★★

📍 1230 Kurokawa, Aso

"Don’t take the North wing rooms. Rooms are old in a unpleasant way. A lot of mosquitoes if you open the window during the night for the fresh air (even though there nets on the windows). Onsen looks unpleasant as well… but breakfast is really good."

Aso Ama Guesthouse

Aso Ama Guesthouse ★★★

📍 1534-2 Ichinomiyamachi Miyaji, Aso

"The owner is very nice. It's not far from the station and very close to Aso Shrine. The room is spacious and cozy."

📍 1498 Kurokawa, Aso

"Very convenient location next to the train station and a conbini. Room good and luggage keeping available after checking out"

Aso Resort Grandvrio Hotel
8.2 (140 reviews)

Aso Resort Grandvrio Hotel ★★★★

📍 Akamizu Kometsuka Onsen, Aso

"A beautiful golf resort style hotel with a superb onsen. The only downside was encountering some unruly tourists brushing their teeth inside the onsen area, which was a bit off-putting. However, we still had a great time using the facilities—the free-to-rent board games and table tennis were a lot of fun! Stunning mountain view from the pavilion"

Aso No Shiki
9.5 (45 reviews)

Aso No Shiki ★★★

📍 3030-2 Ichinomiyamachi Sakanashi, Aso

"The room was spacious enough for a family of four, and dessert and matcha were provided in the room upon check-in. We booked a two-meal, one-night stay package, and the food was excellent in both taste and quality. There were four private hot springs (if I remember correctly). The staff were welcoming and friendly, speaking basic English, making communication seamless. Many of the touches were thoughtful and charming, and the paintings were fascinating. They even provided rice balls for each guest before departure. I'll definitely be back!"

Shinwaen ★★★

📍 1354 Uchinomaki, Aso

"Was planning for a trip to Aso to see the active volcano, and thought might as well add on to the experience with a night's stay in an onsen ryokan. Shinwaen stood out as it was easy to book and they had some promotion for staying on weekdays. Arriving was convenient as there were regular buses from JR Aso Station to the main street. It was a little confusing with the small streets, otherwise just follow the signages. I had never stayed in a traditional Japanese house before and the experience was amazing. I booked a standalone guestroom with private open-air onsen and washroom. I chose the Japanese style, and I understand you can choose Western style or hybrid style, in case you need a proper bed. The guestroom was actually a house, with a very nice entrance, living room, cloak, and the sliding door to the hot spring. The shower had 2 doors, one leading to the outside to the hotspring, and the other to the inside of the house, so that you can clean yourself up before dipping into the onsen. I actually went to the onsen thrice. Dinner and breakfast was at the ryokan's main building. It was less intimidating than I expected, as they arranged Chinese-speaking staff to serve us. Food was local produce and both meals were very grand and eye-opening. They also accommodated to my toddler child with kids meal. The Uchinomaki area is a good staging point for visiting Mt Aso and Daikanbo. The experience was so good I think it would be hard to beat."

"The kitchen was fully equipped, which was fantastic for cooking. However, the location is quite deep in the mountains, so a car is essential."

"A great place to go with a family. The buffet breakfast and dinner are delicious and the resort has a great water park and play area for the kids. There is plenty of free parking if you rent a car and for Aso you will probably have to rent a car."

Aso Ama Guesthouse ★★★
"Aso Tenshuku is the best hotel I've stayed at in Aso City. The room was really spacious and clean, with complete amenities including a TV, air conditioning, heating, and Wi-Fi. Most importantly, the bathroom was also large and very clean, with great water pressure and hot water. The owner, Mr. Lai, is a retired ********* gentleman who came to Japan to enjoy his retirement and opened this hotel. He's friendly, easygoing, and incredibly hospitable. On our first day, he warmly welcomed us and introduced us to nearby shops and attractions. We even shared drinks and chatted together. Since the hotel is very close to convenience stores and supermarkets, and local shops tend to close earlier, guests can buy ingredients at the nearby supermarket and cook at the hotel. The beef there is very affordable."

Aso Base Backpackers ★★
"I have been staying in very special places in Japan: beautiful locations with lots of care and details but this one is my favorite so far! Yoshi and Myong made me feel super welcomed, comfy and happy in their guesthouse. I arrived with a BIG LUGAGGE which was right away taken up by Yoshi (thank you so much!!!) and when I left he reminded me I could ask for his help if I needed (which I did). I like to "judge" a place by the comfiness of their sofas, and Aso Base delivered superb excellency! So many cozy corners, there's not even one futon that is not hyper soft! The bathrooms have some themes on the wall, one is the cat theme, another one jellyfish and the other is lizards, so I had fun time choosing what theme I would go to. The shower capsules have shampoo conditioner and soap and then an area to dry your hair with a great view! There's details that are just piece of art! A small corner with a table, cd player and CDs that are awesome- Japanese, international and relax music and audiobooks! I've searched many of them in Spotify and will keep listening. While you are listening there are some images, like a collage, and it's so well thought. Every image has a doll representing it live action as well, like dreams coming true. The kitchen is reeeeaallly equipped, drinking water at the tap and has lots of seasonings and teapots 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 There's extra blankets and pillows and some of the pillows are animal shaped 😺🐶🐷🐑 so during my four nights there I slept in the company of Mr Snuggles, a grey cat that smiled with his eyes closed - there was pinky pig and hairy sheep too! in the female dorm every bed has a blue sky wallpaper like in Toy Story!!!! 🥹 I was a bit worried because the comments say there's lots of rules and that they are strict and don't open the door for people in the rain. But the thing is: there are some rules, because they are two people (+ another lady who helps with cleaning) taking care of a big house. It needs some organization and routines. They provide storage and the area has great options to enjoy while waiting - if necessary. Is a small town, many great restaurants around - the shop right next to the station that sells local products is a must trying repeatedly, the best onsen in the region is 3 minutes away, a Lawson across the street. I greatly enjoyed my time in Aso and everyday was glad to be going back to Aso Base. It is a place to come with a light and warm heart and soul ( they will certainly retribute), where you can have great conversations, play games or read a book, cozily nested and drinking tea while the fireplace and many lighting create a whole vibe. I've booked 4 nights and wish they were 8! Kamsahamnida and Domo Arigato, Myong and Yoshi!!!"

"My husband and i were staying there from 22dec to 24dec, in a japanese style room in main building. The station is abt 10min by taxi or abt 15min by bus, then walk abt 2 min from the Aso onsen byoin mae bus stop. I left my backpack at the bus when i headed to the ryokan, and i was freaking out. Thank god Matsuoka-san and Rin contacted the aso station, got hold of the bus driver and we managed to retrieve back our bag. A thousand thanks to d owner Matsuoka san for sending me all the way to Aso station, and checked with almost all the staff in the bus terminal in Aso station As for the room/facilities, the room was simple and basic compared to other ryokan which we stayed before. The deco was simple but very cosy. The room comes with a toilet, no bath. It was abt 20sqm in size. There were 2 types of onsen, public and family bath type 1 and 2. The public onsen was lovely, switching one to the other every day. There is a small mini library, a cat house, sauna and a foot bath next to the onsen area. Food wise, we had the akaushi beef kaiseki meal on the first night. The roasted akaushi beef was tough, very hard to chew. So we requested a seafood kaiseki the 2nd night, and our request was accommodated though it was requested last minute. Service was good. Rin/Maho/Yoshimoto san were trying their best to comm to us in English during our dinner/breakfast. Good stay and recommended this ryokan for a stay in Aso. *There are 2 bus per hour to/from aso station."
