Residence Inn Saddle River

Residence Inn Saddle River ★★★

📍 7 Boroline Rd, Saddle River

"Our stay at this hotel was an absolute nightmare, with zero regard for guests' comfort or basic decency. Right from the start, things went wrong—we'd booked a regular room but tried requesting an accessible one by phone since it was essential, but we couldn't reach anyone, so we sent a special request through a message on trip.com. But they claimed they weren't even aware of it and didn't provide one. We got there super late, around 12:50 AM, and the room wasn't even set up for four people: not enough towels or bedding, so we had to hang around waiting. But the real kicker was how freezing cold the room was. There was some kind of limit on the thermostat that wouldn't let us set it above 65°F. The front desk couldn't sort it out, so we ended up messing with the heating system ourselves for over two hours—until like 3:00 AM. Even after we figured out how to bypass that limit, the heat still wouldn't kick in. We asked for a portable heater, but the person at the front desk tested the two little ones they had, said they didn't work, and then didn't give them to us. At 3 AM, we actually had to go with the front desk guy ourselves to grab pillows and sheets for the other two guests because nothing was getting done. Out of sheer desperation—especially since one of our group has a condition that gets way worse in the cold—we even tried calling Marriott directly to get some help, but after waiting forever, they just didn't pick up and told us to email them instead. And to make matters worse, we spotted a cockroach scurrying around in the room. The next morning, when we complained about the cold, the desk person didn't even apologize or act like it was a big deal; they just said they'd send a technician eventually. We asked to talk to the manager on duty about all this mess, but apparently she wasn't around until after noon, and they couldn't give us any real timeline for when she'd be back. On top of that, the room didn't get cleaned at all the next day. And don't get me started on the amenities—at 9:40 AM on a weekend, the breakfast attendant basically shrugged and said the waffle batter was already out, like tough luck. This whole experience was just a string of ignored problems, total incompetence, and conditions that no one should have to put up with."

"The screen door to the balcony was broken and the screen ripped apart from its door frame. It would not close all the way or lock. The second issue is the refrigerator was broken and froze everything I put in it. I lost the food I put in it due to it being frozen solid. the back of the refrigerator was completely caked with ice and when I told front desk and asked if the Bistro was still open a few minutes before it was scheduled to close, I got a "sorry" and the cook was cleaning up and would not make something to replace the lunch I had lost. There was no microwave in the room which would have helped me in this instance, and would help other visitors in the future. The last issue is the bathtub/shower and the most important one. The floor of the tub was not protected with any kind of slip-resistant materials and was as slippery as ice. I did slip when I took a shower but luckily I was able to catch my fall. At 74 years of age, that could have been devastating for me and, in the long run, for the hotel as well. I notified the front desk about this and asked if they had any kind of rubber mat or something I could use to avoid possibly falling and, again, the answer was the same as it was for the refrigerator; i.e. "I'm sorry." I was then given two cloth bath mats to put in the shower."

"The service person at the front desk and restaurant are extremely polite and helpful, that make me feel good, unlike a certain ihg hotel at south San Francisco airport hotel, the front desk person was extremely rude and considerless about the feeling of the guest, made me a long lasting impression of uncomfortable. This one is awesome!"
