"Chaotic, the hotel itself is very nice, it’s really clean. It was really noisy the night we stayed as they had a wedding, you could hear people partying. The breakfast was awful, we were told that breakfast was between 8.30-10am, we went down to the breakfast room at 8.30, there were 3 other couples also sat in there, we waiting by the entrance of the breakfast room for 5mins; then one of the couples mentioned that they couldn’t find any staff so they all sat down. We sat down and it took 25mins for any staff to be located. Which was shocking, they stated they usually put a continental buffet out with fruit and pastries; this was not the case on the day we were there, there was nothing ready as they were behind, I would say possibly extremely inexperienced staff who didn’t know what they were doing or where they were. We ordered breakfast and coffee eventually, then after about another 15/20mins, they came to notify my husband that the breakfast he ordered wasn’t available as they had run out, so he ordered something else which was another wait. We had to ask 4 times for toast….. which isn’t helpful. I’m coeliac so I can’t eat gluten, I did mention this to the staff, but they didn’t have any idea about allergies which was a massive concern, they gave me toast that wasn’t gluten free; after asking 4 times. Overall the breakfast was the worst experience we have had, so I really wouldn’t bother, two of the four couples who entered breakfast with us walked out without breakfast because it was that chaotic and disastrous. With sufficient staff training and some organisation this could be a great hotel, I think if you’re staying there for a wedding you may have a different experience, but staying there for a night away, don’t bother, much nicer places in the area."

Cormiston Farm

"Cormiston Farm is just an amazing place in every way and will forever be a special place to us. We cannot recommend enough. We celebrated our wedding there April 2024 and not only it is a beautiful place with stunning views, but also Richard and his family are such great, kind and friendly people who were extremely helpful and made our stay and special day not only amazing but as easy as possible and as we envisioned it. It is also an environmentally friendly wedding venue and accommodation! We stayed at the house / B&B which is a beautiful Georgian/Victorian house with everything you need and also views to the beautiful farm grounds. The barn was just perfect for our reception. Everyone loved the venue and every detail of Cormiston Farm (the compliments haven't stopped yet!) Thanks for everything! =)"

"The hotel was amazing and the owner, Daphne, is so great. I’d flown to Edinburgh for a wedding at Cornhill Castle and there were absolutely no taxis so I thought I was going to have to miss the wedding-eve celebration as it was too dark and far to walk but the hotel owner went and got her own car and drove me. The bride and groom were absolutely over the moon as well. That’s amazing customer service and I would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone - very clean, nice rooms, great staff and a lovely breakfast. It’s real value for money. THANK YOU xxx"

"My stay was so good I returned 3 weeks later for another night. Lovely welcome from the owners & staff. Plenty of parking, food really good. The countryside around this hotel is amazing, there are lovely hills behind if you want a great view. If passing close by make a detour to stay here."

"Excellent venue for the wedding - staff were very helpful and overall the venue could not have been better. Food in the restaurant (night before wedding ) was as also very good as was the breakfast the morning after. The only downside was the lodge we stayed in (as all the hotel rooms were booked). The lodge is nice enough but we did have a couple of issues : 1. Bed / bedroom is simply too small for a double bed. Very difficult to get in and out of the bed - very little room around it and you have to launch onto bed and then crawl or shuffle up (and down). This may be ok for young and fully able bodied but anyone over a certain age or with any accessibility issues, it really is a major problem. 2. Shower - likewise this must be the smallest shower cubicle I have ever had the misfortune to use (and that includes several small enclosures on cruise ships). Actual shower was ok - just could hardly move. Save for the above 2 issues (which unfortunately are pretty important ) the lodge was ok. I just think that when they were built, they should have been a touch larger - so enabling a slightly larger bedroom and sufficient space in the bathroom to accommodate a slightly larger shower space. Also very impressed that the cleaning staff located an item which I had left in the bathroom when we checked out and delivered this to reception. Having departed, I was contacted by the receptionist and so able to return to the hotel and collect my lost property. Am very grateful that they took the time to do this. Overall a good stay - and would return again provided I could get a room in the main hotel."

"Xmas in Scotland with coach trip at this hotel. Lovely old building with lots of original features. Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. No lift or porterage on arrival so needed to carry suitcase up a flight of stairs which was difficult for some of the coach passengers due being elderly and some mobility problem. Staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful. Food was good. Hotel was quiet and peaceful with lovely views over the countryside."

The Hopetoun Arms Hotel ★★★
"We stayed for just one night, breaking a drive up to Scotland. I chose the Hopetoun because of its proximity to the M74 and the excellent reviews. I soon discovered how well deserved the reviews were. Everything about our stay was excellent, the beautiful room (#2), the very good dinner and the stunning cooked Scottish breakfast. The staff were friendly and efficient. The village of Leadmills has an interesting history and is a nice place to stay. "
