"We stopped for lunch on the spur of the moment. The pub is quite pleasant inside and the beer garden looked like a nice place for a drink on a sunny day. We had fish and chips which were good and chicken schnitzel which wasn't. The chicken was a small portion and bony with very little meat and just about cooked to a reasonable temperature."

"We had a lovely stay, the room was very comfortable and Maria and Andy were the perfect hosts. Breakfast was excellent and the location of the guest house is very unique, directly above the lift (funicular) to the high town. A perfect base from which to explore Bridgnorth."

The down Inn ★★★★
"Wow is all we can say. We stayed for one night and had a fabulous time. From the moment we got there until we left we couldn’t fault it. The staff were fantastic and when we weren’t sure as to which bottle of wine we wanted with dinner the lovely barmaid asked if we would like to try a little taste. What a nice suggestion. The food was amazing. Hubby had 10oz sirloin and I had the crispy pork in an amazing sauce. You will not go far wrong if you order this. The pork was very soft and succulent and the topping was as crispy as anything I have ever tasted. Both meals were amazing and the starters were amazing. I had the mushrooms and hubby had the prawns which we split between the 2 of us. The room was really lovely, extremely roomy with lots of wardrobe and drawer space. You have got to pay a visit to this place, whether it’s just for a meal (oh and forgot to say about their carvery) one of the best we have ever been to. Don’t take our word for it but we will definitely be back again and again. Please give it a try as you certainly won’t regret it."

The Pheasant at Neenton ★★★
"It's always a risk going somewhere for the first time, on a recommendation and for a special event, such as a birthday dinner in my case. I had heard good things about The Pheasant, so I booked a table for 8 at 19:00, which a few days before rose to a table of 10, which they happily accommodated, however now we were ten they requested a pre-order for the food, as they were going to be very busy that night! No problem, I get it, a large table of 10 can indeed completely mess up your food service, for a busy restaurant, so I sent that in for them, with a request that we sit at 19:30 so we could all meet at the bar and have a drink beforehand. I was curtly informed that it would not be possible, as they were very busy and the food would be brought to the table for 19:15 sharp but we were more than welcome to have drinks at the table. Suddenly, I got the overwhelming sense we were now a nuisance or inconvenience to The Pheasant, not something you want any of your customers to feel, but we were booked in so let's just run with it. Based on this repeated information about being very busy, I decided to change the plan of drinks at the bar beforehand, saving myself a few quid (not something any proprietor would be happy with) delayed arrival and went straight to the table. Starters were nice enough, main courses exceptional (the duck was melt in your mouth) but my dessert was really disappointing, bordering on unpleasant. I had the deep fried bread and butter pudding out of curiosity. All I could taste was old frying fat and a ton of sugar. If it hadn't been for everyone wanting to try it, I'd have sent it back. The service was pleasant enough and polite while at the table but there was very little relationship building with the waiting staff and a lot of waving to try and catch their attention, so not as attentive as maybe they should have been, especially as it really wasn't as busy as they had lead me to believe. An over all dining experience must include a welcoming ambiance, great aesthetics, good food, excellent value for money, attentive genuine service, a warm fuzzy feeling from other customers and a sense of inclusiveness to be the whole package. I thought The Pheasant would offer that based on their reviews but they fell short for me."

"We stayed for two nights to explore around the area. They told us about the music festival being on during part of our visit and other attractions. Both were very friendly. We had the large double room overlooking the river direction. The bed was very comfortable. The guest house is part of the funicular railway. It was really cool to see the train ascending and descending outside the back window while having breakfast."
