Wine Residence Cattunar ★★★★★

📍 Nova Vas, Brtonigla

"Modern, contemporary two-storey small hotel situated in the middle of a celebrated working vineyard not far from Brtonigla. Easily accessible by motorway and less than an hour's drive away from a very quiet Pula airport. Only about 10 miles from the Slovenian border, and some rooms have Adriatic coastal views in the distance. No problems with parking as residents have their own area at the back of the property, although there are plenty of other informal spots around the building. We were impressed by the Cattunar's very attractive external design and there has clearly been lots of investment in the general architecture and public areas. The glass and bright marble tiling make it look constantly pristine. Only two sorts of room here; junior suites and deluxe suites. The former seemed sufficient for us but my first impression was that we should have gone bigger. Second impression was that storage space was very limited. Probably ok for a couple days but any longer than that and you needed to be very creative. We're pretty neat and tidy as a rule but here we had stuff in all sorts of unusual places, and more clothes on display than we would normally like. Upsides were that the bed was supremely comfortable, the room was perfectly soundproofed and the air-conditioning was quiet and efficient . No problems with the adjoining bathroom; plenty of space with ample storage on tops, in shelves and in a separate open cabinet. The capacious shower was wet room style with a rainforest head and easy to operate controls. The hairdryer was a grip- operated monster. The suite had a balcony with a great view overlooking the vineyard and right above where the grapes are bought in for pulping. Also within sight was the a recently installed wine-tasting platform which seemed quite popular with local groups at certain times of the day. Breakfast was taken in a dedicated light and airy room near the pool. Plenty of tables inside and even more outside on a patio near the pool. I thought they put on a pretty good buffet-style spread each day and made a concerted effort to change items on a daily basis. All the usual bread, fruit and cheese and meat items were in situ plus a host of interesting sweet and savoury options too. All hot drinks are made to order and there's no problem with refills. Some foodstuff items are left out for snacking during the day and, later, beers and spirits can be ordered and taken away as required. All rooms have minibars so it's easy to liberate a beer in the afternoon and enjoyed it well-chilled in the evening. The pool has a pleasant view overlooking the vineyards and there's plenty of good quality sunbeds, with mattresses, dotted around the garden area. No umbrellas, but ample natural shade from nearby olive trees whilst there is also a bespoke freestanding awning. The whole place is stewarded by two splendid hosts, Alessandro and Anya, who work on a one on/one off basis. Both very friendly and helpful and couldn't do en"

"My stay in 2025 was terrible. The camper pitch was bad—blocked by a tree and lamp, so I couldn’t park. I asked reception for help, but they gave me three worse pitches. Stayed on the original one disputing the fact that was close to a noisy road, loud all day and night. No hot water in our facility area the whole time. When I told it to reception staff, they said go to another place for hot water. Imagine carrying dishes and shower things far away! Staff were rude and ignored me. My son got hurt on the football field. A ball hit his head, and his eye was bloody. It was evening, so we went to a hospital near hospital in Izola (Slovenia not Croatia – you will need to pay if the accident happened in Croatia). We stayed there all night and paid €900. I talked to the manager, Thomas, to at least get a refund for that day since we spend it in the hospital. He didn’t care and told me to find the boy who kicked the ball. He also didn’t care about no hot water or noisy road. He smiled and said write a bad review. Staff were stressed and no help. This place is expensive, noisy, and not safe. I tell everyone: don’t go! Even if free, I won’t go back. Lucky we had other places to stay on our trip. I don’t recommend Camping Park Umag at all!"

"We visited the winery and had a pleasant time there. We tried different wines and a food platter. Didn’t find it pricey. They have outstandingly friendly stuff, Mrs. Danijela told us everything about the wines, showed us the hotel and amenities and we were pleasantly surprised by her and winery itself. Definitely recommend if you are in Istria!"

"Spend there 3 beautifull days. Sun, pool and peace, what more do you need. Perfect little butique hotel you will enjoy. Afternoons at pool they bring every guest plate of fresh fruits. Breakfast was so good. So much to choose from. We had a amazing dinner at their restaurant at hotel. They have the largest amount selections of wine. Room was nice, cozy and bed was great. Can't wait next year to come again. And our dog had a great time with us there."

Camping Park Umag Mobile Homes ★★★★
"We recently returned from a family stay at Camping Park Umag. There were 6 of us in total, myself, my wife, three adult children, and a 13-year-old this was without a car, flying into Trieste and getting a transfer. For this trip, we booked a Eurocamp Premium mobile home, and the accommodation was absolutely great. It looked completely new, modern, and clean. The Eurocamp staff on-site were incredibly friendly and welcoming from the start. We did have a minor issue with the hot water and drainage during our stay, but the team sorted it out straight away without any hassle, which we really appreciated. As for the park itself, the camp is absolutely beautiful. It’s incredibly clean, well-maintained, and massive in scale. You get direct access to the beach, and the water is genuinely crystal clear. Just keep in mind the beach is all rock with no sand, so swim shoes are a must (you can pick them up here for around €10). There’s a fantastic buzz along the waterfront with plenty of activities like tennis and volleyball, plus various water sports available and the inflatable aqua park for an extra fee. Over at the Canova Bay and pool area, things are stunning. The pool bar is great, and the restaurant right by Canova Bay was very reasonably priced, had great friendly service, and featured lovely live music with stunning views. We were also fortunate enough to be there for the campsite's official "Camping Day" celebration, which was a fantastic evening of entertainment. The night kicked off with some great live music, followed by a brilliant fire show, and finished with a truly spectacular fireworks display. It was a brilliant highlight of the trip. However, being here as a family of six without a vehicle highlighted a few distinct drawbacks you need to prepare for. First, the on-site prices are very expensive. It seems since our last visit to Croatia, and since the introduction of the Euro, everything has gotten significantly more expensive generally. The two on-site supermarkets are basic; they have most of what you need, but the selection is limited and the prices for basic items are crazy. Approximate examples include €4 for Pringles, €5 for a tin of tuna, €3 for juice, a can of beer is around €2, and €8 for a box of ice cream. There are a number of bakery shops where a croissant is €2.25. There is nothing directly outside the camp either, and the couple of supermarkets further out carry similar price tags, around a 10 to 15-minute walk. While bike hire is available, the pricing is completely unreasonable. It’s €20 to €25 a day (from 10am to 7pm), and hiring bikes for a family of six for our stay was going to rack up €900, so it simply wasn’t an option for us. On top of that, you need to bring cash with you as well. Some shops and bars do not accept cards at all, and the on-site ATMs hit you with a hefty fee of around €6 per withdrawal, so bring some cash with you. If you want a sun lounger or umbrella by the pool, expect to pay a small daily cha"
