The Imperial Hotel

The Imperial Hotel

📍 Imperial Hotel, 35 King St, Castle Douglas
★★★ 6.9 (49 reviews)

"Went to this hotel as a last minute overnight stay. What a lovely hotel, a little dated but that that is made up for by the very helpful and friendly staff who are ready and waiting to help you with anything. Breakfast was included in our price and what a breakfast it was, thoroughly enjoyed it. I will definitely go back and this time it will be for a weekend as one night was not long enough to enjoy the town."

The Cross Keys Hotel

The Cross Keys Hotel

📍 High St, New Galloway
★★★ 7.7 (11 reviews)

"I received a warm welcome into this clean and comfortable hotel which is in a beautiful part of Dumfries and Galloway. Yes, it is old fashioned, and it could possibly be classed as ‘quaint’ but what is wrong with that? I and six friends were part of the team running a motorsport event in nearby Forrest Estate, and that involved early starts and late finishes. The weekend which we chose was one selected by our host to be a ‘bed and breakfast only’ weekend with the restaurant and the bar closed throughout the day except for breakfast. The breakfasts were delightfully cooked to order, and for those who had to be out even earlier than breakfast time our host volunteered to provide a packed brunch with fruit, cereal bars and a bottle of water. It was left out the night before and could be collected when leaving for the day’s activities. Many places, if they did provide a packed breakfast, would not have been so generous with the contents. I couldn’t get the TV in my room to work and because I had to be away well before the hotel opened for the day I simply emailed reception during the night and when I got back in the TV was on and working! The only drawback for me and my LandRover friends was the lack of a large car park although there is a small private car park at the rear of the hotel. On-street parking is available but there is competition to get a place if you arrive late. There is a public car park but it is not as close as I would like. The ‘ Bed and Breakfast Only’ situation which existed while we were there suited us very well and as a bonus it allowed us to eat in a variety of local establishments. The hotel is dog friendly and there are two hotel dogs who ensure that they get the attention that they think that they deserve!"

The Ship Inn - Winner Best Hotel Experience 2024 Visit Scotland

📍 1 Fleet St, Gatehouse of Fleet
★★★★ 9.3 (67 reviews)

"We enjoyed a three night Spring break at the Ship Inn. We had two rooms (3&9) which were both a good size, clean with comfortable beds and nice modern bathrooms, although I did think the wash-hand basin was rather small and a bit too low. We found the heating to be a bit unpredictable and we felt our rooms and also the public areas were generally a bit cold. We ate in the restaurant each night and at breakfast, the staff were always friendly providing efficient service. We found the starter & dessert options a bit unexciting but enjoyed all the mains which we had. Breakfast was freshly prepared but apart from the Full Breakfast selection there were only two other options. Overall the Ship is a lovely wee hotel & restaurant in an excellent location to explore the coast & hills of Galloway. We will likely return and would not hesitate to recommend to others."

Ernespie House Hotel

Ernespie House Hotel

📍 Ernespie Rd, Castle Douglas
★★★ 8.7 (58 reviews)

"We have now stayed at this hotel several times and enjoyed every visit. You arrive at the hotel along a driveway lined with mature trees and on this occasion we were fortunate to see a rabbit and squirrels among the trees. Guests can expect a warm welcome when they arrive and are shown to their room with an offer of help with luggage. We have now stayed in a variety of rooms and each one has everything you need for your stay - comfortable bed, toiletries and a hospitality tray. The staff work as a team and are all friendly and helpful under the watchful eye of the attentive owner who is around to ensure his guests get personal attention. We ate in the hotel each night of our stay and enjoyed every meal from the varied and very reasonably priced menu. "

Craigadam Hotel

Craigadam Hotel

📍 1, Castle Douglas Road, Castle Douglas
★★★ 9.0 (17 reviews)

"We had 3 nights at Craigadam and dinner on the first night. We found Richard and Celia to be kind and hospitable hosts with nothing too much trouble and frequent offers of tea or coffee with home baking were offered. Much of the produce on offer at breakfast and dinner comes from Craigadam's own butchery and smokery and was of the highest standard with the smoked salmon being the best I have ever tasted. The room was well equipped with everything we could have needed and their were spare pillows and covers available. There is a delightful courtyard with the relaxing sound of a water feature to relax in for an hour before setting off for the day or on return. The front garden has seating with beautiful views over the countryside. The breakfast room, drawing room and billiard room have the perfect atmosphere of a country house and we enjoyed the experience of relaxing with a drink in the comfortable drawing room which also has lovely views. Whilst there another guest had problems with his car and Richard sorted this out for him with no hesitation. When told of a dairy allergy Celia went above and beyond anything we could have expected even baking bread with soya milk for breakfast. "

Woodlyn Guest House

Woodlyn Guest House

📍 Woodlyn, Castramont Road, Gatehouse of Fleet
★★★ 9.9 (35 reviews)

"Easily one of the best BnBs we’ve stayed in and there have been many over the years. It was spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished and breakfast was divine but it’s the little added extras which make the difference. For example, the very very generous hospitality tray, the wine glasses, the ample, fluffy, white towels, the more than adequate toiletries. No skimping here! Our stay was a pleasure from start to finish and we’d definitely stay again if in the area. Highly recommended."

The Imperial Hotel ★★★
"This is not for me. The " Hotel " is a very. Very poor standard , On arrival you are met with sn a dour that lingers through out The room is 70s decor with a precarious heater . The grey carpet in the orange bathroom leaves a lot to be desired . We paid extra for breakfast but as we left at 7.30 no one was around even for coffe . The pictures may have been taken a long time ago . Staff friendly and good car park"

"We stayed here for 2 nights and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. This is a family run hotel and the staff are exceptional. They work so hard to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The hotel is in beautiful grounds and we were upgraded to the best room in the hotel which was really appreciated. The hotel is immaculately clean, the super king bed was extremely comfortable and the room had lovely extras such as canned water, tea and coffee, toiletries and biscuits. The food is cooked to order and is extremely fresh and delicious. The views were beautiful and the hotel is only a short walk into town. We would definitely recommend this hotel - it was fantastic value for money and we had a great time."

"Having had a bad experience of not being given a room with a loch view as booked, we moved on to this fabulous establishment which was so well worth the disappointment of a mix-up. Thank goodness we said. We landed in this floriferous heaven of a courtyard, lovely comfy and roomy bedroom, and a hostess with the mostest (who happened to have a rather good cook of a husband/farmer). Lots of information of where to go and what to see around the area, and a great evening meal of lamb cutlets. There is an extensive Breakfast Menu and you can spend an evening on a full size snooker table!"

"Fabulous! From entering the Guesthouse to leaving, we were made to feel welcome. Nikki & Kev were excellent hosts, nothing too much trouble and attentive. The room was immaculate, clean and luxurious. Lovely fluffy towels 😀. Kettle in room with good choice of teabags, coffee, biscuits, bottled water. Breakfast was delicious, especially the sausages. We highly recommend this Guesthouse."
