Cally Palace Hotel & Golf Course
"Nice hotel sitting in the forest and green."
The Thistle Inn
"Just had a wonderful night at the Thistle inn, they had a pop up Chinese night spread over Friday and Saturday, food, atmosphere and service were yet again amazing, well done team Thistle and visiting Chef"
The Imperial Hotel
"Went to this hotel as a last minute overnight stay. What a lovely hotel, a little dated but that that is made up for by the very helpful and friendly staff who are ready and waiting to help you with anything. Breakfast was included in our price and what a breakfast it was, thoroughly enjoyed it. I will definitely go back and this time it will be for a weekend as one night was not long enough to enjoy the town."
The Cross Keys Hotel
"I received a warm welcome into this clean and comfortable hotel which is in a beautiful part of Dumfries and Galloway. Yes, it is old fashioned, and it could possibly be classed as ‘quaint’ but what is wrong with that? I and six friends were part of the team running a motorsport event in nearby Forrest Estate, and that involved early starts and late finishes. The weekend which we chose was one selected by our host to be a ‘bed and breakfast only’ weekend with the restaurant and the bar closed throughout the day except for breakfast. The breakfasts were delightfully cooked to order, and for those who had to be out even earlier than breakfast time our host volunteered to provide a packed brunch with fruit, cereal bars and a bottle of water. It was left out the night before and could be collected when leaving for the day’s activities. Many places, if they did provide a packed breakfast, would not have been so generous with the contents. I couldn’t get the TV in my room to work and because I had to be away well before the hotel opened for the day I simply emailed reception during the night and when I got back in the TV was on and working! The only drawback for me and my LandRover friends was the lack of a large car park although there is a small private car park at the rear of the hotel. On-street parking is available but there is competition to get a place if you arrive late. There is a public car park but it is not as close as I would like. The ‘ Bed and Breakfast Only’ situation which existed while we were there suited us very well and as a bonus it allowed us to eat in a variety of local establishments. The hotel is dog friendly and there are two hotel dogs who ensure that they get the attention that they think that they deserve!"
The Ship Inn - Winner Best Hotel Experience 2024 Visit Scotland
"We enjoyed a three night Spring break at the Ship Inn. We had two rooms (3&9) which were both a good size, clean with comfortable beds and nice modern bathrooms, although I did think the wash-hand basin was rather small and a bit too low. We found the heating to be a bit unpredictable and we felt our rooms and also the public areas were generally a bit cold. We ate in the restaurant each night and at breakfast, the staff were always friendly providing efficient service. We found the starter & dessert options a bit unexciting but enjoyed all the mains which we had. Breakfast was freshly prepared but apart from the Full Breakfast selection there were only two other options. Overall the Ship is a lovely wee hotel & restaurant in an excellent location to explore the coast & hills of Galloway. We will likely return and would not hesitate to recommend to others."
Ernespie House Hotel
"We have now stayed at this hotel several times and enjoyed every visit. You arrive at the hotel along a driveway lined with mature trees and on this occasion we were fortunate to see a rabbit and squirrels among the trees. Guests can expect a warm welcome when they arrive and are shown to their room with an offer of help with luggage. We have now stayed in a variety of rooms and each one has everything you need for your stay - comfortable bed, toiletries and a hospitality tray. The staff work as a team and are all friendly and helpful under the watchful eye of the attentive owner who is around to ensure his guests get personal attention. We ate in the hotel each night of our stay and enjoyed every meal from the varied and very reasonably priced menu. "
Craigadam Hotel
"We had 3 nights at Craigadam and dinner on the first night. We found Richard and Celia to be kind and hospitable hosts with nothing too much trouble and frequent offers of tea or coffee with home baking were offered. Much of the produce on offer at breakfast and dinner comes from Craigadam's own butchery and smokery and was of the highest standard with the smoked salmon being the best I have ever tasted. The room was well equipped with everything we could have needed and their were spare pillows and covers available. There is a delightful courtyard with the relaxing sound of a water feature to relax in for an hour before setting off for the day or on return. The front garden has seating with beautiful views over the countryside. The breakfast room, drawing room and billiard room have the perfect atmosphere of a country house and we enjoyed the experience of relaxing with a drink in the comfortable drawing room which also has lovely views. Whilst there another guest had problems with his car and Richard sorted this out for him with no hesitation. When told of a dairy allergy Celia went above and beyond anything we could have expected even baking bread with soya milk for breakfast. "
Woodlyn Guest House
"Easily one of the best BnBs we’ve stayed in and there have been many over the years. It was spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished and breakfast was divine but it’s the little added extras which make the difference. For example, the very very generous hospitality tray, the wine glasses, the ample, fluffy, white towels, the more than adequate toiletries. No skimping here! Our stay was a pleasure from start to finish and we’d definitely stay again if in the area. Highly recommended."
