Résidence Hôtelière Odalys l'Archipel

📍 27 Rue de la Huguenote, La Rochelle

"The hotel residence is very quiet and generally very clean. The staff is truly very kind and professional, especially at breakfast: as soon as something runs out, it's quickly replenished. Breakfast is rather expensive, but the ingredients are of very good quality, including some organic products, which is a nice touch. The free parking is also a real plus, although the lack of an electric vehicle charging station is a shame. However, for the overall price of the establishment, some services and amenities seem a bit limited: only one pillow per person, towels not changed the next day unless you pay extra, and only two rolls of toilet paper provided. These are minor details, but at this price point, you expect a little more comfort and flexibility. The main drawback also concerns the check-in and check-out times: having to check in at 5 pm and 11 am seems excessive. Regarding the pool area, I was disappointed by the mandatory system of having to walk through a footbath with stagnant water before entering and after leaving. It's neither pleasant nor very clean, in my opinion. This isn't a municipal or indoor sports pool; many guests simply want to relax by the pool or accompany their children. This system deserves to be redesigned or better maintained. Overall, my stay was pleasant thanks to the calm atmosphere and the professionalism of the staff, but there are a few things that could be improved considering the prices charged."

"Bonjour, we took a week to reflect before writing this review, so it's not an immediate, potentially more aggressive, reaction. We booked through Trip.com, which offered the best deal at the time, before the hotel even opened. Two days before arrival, the hotel called to ask about our preferences and requests for amenities, which was a good start. On arrival, we were greeted in the car park by the reception staff, which was excellent. THE RECEPTION or concierges – four young men and women – were polite, kind, and welcoming, but clearly not quite up to speed with the IT system. After a good fifteen minutes, we were shown around the establishment and then escorted to our room by the always-friendly staff. There were issues with two lifts: one was shut down due to a grinding noise, and the lift serving the aquatic area was broken. Since I have reduced mobility (PMR), the staff offered an outdoor route, which was fine, I suppose. Anyway, let's stay positive for now; the friendliness and kindness of all the staff were top-notch. Food, breakfasts – all very good. However, the paint finishes suggest the final inspection wasn't up to luxury liner standards. THE CHERRY ON TOP was our departure on Saturday, June 20, 2026. There were still plenty of receptionists, but the kindness and politeness had been replaced by incompetence. Two people ahead of us were served by one employee for 30 minutes. Then, our 'golden key' tried to deduct €468.22 from our deposit for extras from a single night's stay? We were surprised when he attributed an early departure to a room that wasn't ours! And the bill for the two meals had been paid the day before at the restaurant! The problem was, he wouldn't budge and tried to make us pay the tourist tax, which was already included in our Trip.com payment. Unconvinced, my wife showed him the Trip.com reservation and invoice, and he was flabbergasted, exclaiming, 'What's this? Booking, yes, but Trip…whatsit?' We arrived to check out at 9:10 AM on Saturday and left the hotel at 9:40 AM. All this to say, in the end, it all went smoothly. Everything is sorted, thank you and safe travels. So, I'm nitpicking, but let's not forget where we are, given the media reports about this HIGH-END hotel opening two weeks late. The problem is feeling like you're in a hotel management training school, specifically the RECEPTION section, except the price you pay corresponds to a fully operational HIGH-END hotel. The 'we just opened, we're starting out' excuse doesn't fly at this level. Both my wife and I have worked in entertainment; you have a free dress rehearsal to get everything right, then the general rehearsal, and only after that, when customers are paying, do you perform, certainly not with this kind of amateurism. Nothing like the reception at LA GRANDE TERRASSE, which is top-tier."

"A pretty, quiet hotel close to a beautiful bay, surrounded by great restaurants and local shopping. Lots of free parking in the streets around the hotel. The hotel is spotlessly clean, very well organised, the staff are quietly present if you need anything, and the furnishings are beautifully laid out to create a very warm and calming atmosphere. The room was cleaned every day, and we were given fresh towels and bottled water also which was a nice touch. We had a garden room overlooking a walled area with foliage, this was pleasant and gave us our own access route in and out which was nice. The only downside for us was the size of the room. Adequate perhaps for a night or two but for seven nights it was too small, with insufficient space even to unpack. My clothes had to stay in their case on the floor, the wardrobe was tiny insufficient for two persons with only four or five hangers. There was so little space around the bed I couldn’t even do my morning stretches, and this was disappointing. Overall however, this is a lovely hotel, in a great location, beautifully presented with staff who are quietly present and generous should you need them. I’d visit again but I’d want to be sure to get a bigger space next time."

Hôtel Hemen Hotels in Charente-Maritime

Hôtel Hemen

"We stayed at Hotel Hemen in September 2023 and it was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. From the beautiful and inviting reception area to the attentive & impeccable staff. They have one of the coolest boutiques with a globally selected collection of curated perfection -- amazing kaftans, collectable Assouline books, fantastic Nick Fouquet hats, gorgeous Maor jewelry and other clothing from around the world. This hotel is a beautiful, quiet sanctuary in a beautiful part of France -- close to the Cote Savage (The Wild Coast) & you can take the electric bicycles for a beautiful ride to the lighthouse. The view from the room, from the couch, from the bed (!) is absolutely gorgeous -- and it overlooks your private pool! The rooms are just incredible -- everything is perfect and top of the line! The bed, sheets, pillows are BEYOND anything I've ever slept on -- just perfection and I couldn't wait to get into bed each night. The dual rain showers and bathroom is incredibly well appointed with top of the line L:A Bruket soap, shampoo & conditioner. The toilet was an experience -- ok, I know, it's just a toilet, but it wasn't! You walk in and it opens, the seat is heated and there's other surprises which I'll let you discover for yourself. The Bang & Olufsen televisions are just insane! There was fresh ice, homemade brownies and other accoutrements each evening -- the care and attention to detail is something I've never experienced in any hotel in my life & I've traveled the world for over 30 years! The attached restaurant was also insane -- the breakfast, coffee, and lunch and dinner was spectacular -- spicy tuna crispy rice, sushi, salads, everything was fresh & tasty! The haman & jacuzzi was so relaxing, clean and revitalizing -- they also have a massage room! Hotel Hemen means "here you're home" and I felt like I was in my PERFECT HOME! Just go & experience pampering and perfection!"

HR Hôtel-Restaurant & Spa Marin Hotels in Charente-Maritime

HR Hôtel-Restaurant & Spa Marin

"Lovely little hotel, in great location overlooking the sea, and a few steps walk from a lovely sandy beach, (which would be absolutely perfect without seaweed!), and a 5 minute stroll along the seafront to La Flotte, a lovely little village with port and many nice shops. They also have a nice sized pool with loungers and parasols, and it is perfectly OK, but it is enclosed at the back of the hotel with no view. Pre-holiday email comms had been a bit frustrating, but all the staff were very friendly and helpful in the flesh. The room was very comfortable and quaint, with a nautical theme and lovely hand painted murals. They have let themselves down a little with space at the front of the hotel. Somehow, the furniture looks a little cheap, and the entire area is covered in false grass, which looks awful. Breakfast was good with lots of options. We also ate here one night, and the food was fine in a lovely room overlooking the sea. On final 2 days temperature soared to 30 degrees, when we were told AC not working, which was very inconvenient. I discovered on return they had applied 15% discount for one of the nights, but that was inadequate. Given a choice, at 30 deg C, of this hotel with no AC and 15% discount or somewhere else twice the price, I wouldn't hesitate to choose the latter."

Résidence Vacances Bleues les Coteaux de Jonzac

"I am generally satisfied with the hotel, it was the second time I stayed there. I put only 3* to clean, however, because the covers and the tail were rather doubtful, not sure they were well washed by previous customers as we supposed to do. 3* for staff, I explain to me: very friendly and professional, but I had the unpleasant impression of going for a lie when I wanted to pay in holiday cheques at the arrival. which was accepted only by booking directly at the Residence, which I would like to believe, except that I had had on the phone before booking, another person from the host who had told me that this payment mode would be accepted from a parter such as booking or other (the price being higher live at the Residence); in this case it was sufficient to select a "modifyable" tariff so that the amount of the CB is just blocked while the payment is made at the arrival to the Residence. So, although it was not a blocking pp for my stay, I found the lady's distribution a little hurt. Reliable information should be provided, because the possibility of setting up vacancy checks can be a criterion for the choice of the establishment. Thank you for your understanding"

"This was our first stay and we really enjoyed it. We were a family of 3 and had a double and pullout / sofa bed. The air conditioning was very effective and the room very quiet. The swimming pool facilities are fantastic and a real highlight of a stay. We'd have appreciated longer hours for our kid to be able to use the indoor pool (perhaps lunchtime when the pool is a lot emptier). I'd suggest relaxing the hours in off-season also. Breakfast was satisfactory. We also enjoyed using the ping pong table. It's located about a 30 mins walk from centre of Chatelaillon / train station and we walked it. There is a bus stop outside the hotel that takes you all the way to La Rochelle. All in all, we intend to return next year."

For us, it was an ideal location in Set Marie de Ré with nice rooms and a very friendly team. We rented bikes directly at the hotel and took the upgrade to have a little kitchen area for dinner independence. Mercure Rochefort la Corderie Royale Hotels in Charente-Maritime

"Would have given 5* but on arrival we discovered that the aircon was faulty and it was 33°C+. After a long drive through Brittany and the Loire Valley, we were hot and exhausted and very unamused to be told of the issue. The reception could have displayed more sympathy, and offering to move us to a budget hotel in their chain around the corner was not really a sensible option for a long stay customer. This was not just an overnight stop and I had booked a 4*! In the end, however, it transpired that the aircon in our room came on in the evening and we were able to sleep very well. For the following days, it was switched off during the day whilst the engineers worked on the system but back on late afternoon which was absolutely fine. The reception needed better information about which rooms were affected by the serious system fault and which weren’t! The staff are all very welcoming and helpful. The restaurant menu is limited, presumably they don’t expect longer stay customers (we are staying 6 nights) but well prepared and tasty. The wine menu is reasonably priced per bottle. The room is comfortable but has a slightly freaky large portrait of a famous admiral overlooking the bed and what appears to be a colonial era plantation view behind the bed (inappropriate now??). The lighting in the room needs to be brighter as we can hardly see in the wardrobe area. The only real criticism is that the toilet is separate from the bathroom in a tiny space akin to a public toilet. There’s little room to get in and close the door behind you (ours doesn’t actually lock but not a major issue). Overall, we would thoroughly recommend - the ambience is restful and classy. The breakfast choice is amazing with lovely staff. The town is pretty with lots of history. Worth a visit."

"Overall this is a lovely hotel - I’m still here - but it’s definitely not suitable for children and there are some serious communication issues outside of any language barriers. On the plus side, reading previous reviews I have found my room to be a good size and very clean. I did ask for a pretty view and was told they’d do their best to accommodate this, but I have no view (see below) I don’t really mind about this, but I would have expected them to let me know, and I do mind about the following issues: Once you have booked and are very close to leaving you receive a mail saying kids can’t use much of the pool - only a very small part without water jets. They can use the pool over the road but only between 18hrs and 19:30 hrs. I thought this would be fine as I expected to be swimming in the sea during the day. I wrote and asked if we could easily walk to the beach to swim or if I should hire a car? Also if there were places to eat and drink within walking distance. I wrote three times but never had a reply. Unfortunately, even though you can walk to the beach you can’t really swim in the day because of the tides. You can swim early in the morning or late in the evening - just when kids can use the pool here! I brought this up and was asked if I expected them to send the timetable of the tides to all their customers? because they don’t do that! No, I don’t expect that, but I do expect a reply having sent three emails, and perhaps some local knowledge here. I’ve been told no one has ever had this problem before - it’s the first time someone has been surprised they can’t swim in the sea in the day! (Not quite true, reading the reviews) Previous reviews have mentioned issues with the restaurant, and indeed, it’s very expensive! A croque Monsieur is €21! Now that’s ok for a really good hotel, but the rest of the service and customer care doesn’t match up to this. The restaurant is completely closed at 2pm - I’m sure I should’ve known this, but I didn’t and I had a treatment which then meant it was too late for anything at the restaurant. I’m fine with that but not my little girl! She was quite hungry and not a happy bunny by the time we walked to a restaurant on the beach! I should mention we were offered smoked fish or pâté and got a bit of a judgy look when I confessed she didn’t like that! The hotel over the road is an Ibis and they tell you slightly different things - you’re only allowed in the outdoor pool if you’re a customer there for example, but I was told by this (Accor hotel) I could go there. Staff in the restaurant there again really lovely but very young! Served me a glass of totally flat champagne and I had to get my own cutlery! All this aside, the spa is lovely and I had a really good facial, the staff are really nice and helpful, and I’d return with another adult for the fabulous treatments and a much shorter stay. This is the perfect place for a short stay with adults to enjoy the thalasso therapies. It’s just n"
