"I rarely leave negative reviews, but after this experience I feel it is important to share what happened. As a regular guest of The Residence hotels, I booked several nights at The Residence Douz for a family stay and my husband’s birthday, expecting the level of service and quality usually associated with the Cenizaro group. Unfortunately, after a 7-hour drive, the reality was extremely disappointing. While the room itself was clean and comfortable, almost everything else fell far below the standards expected from a luxury hotel: * Very poor breakfast and dinner quality. * Kids Club with no activities and only one staff member present. * Broken facilities, including a damaged foosball table. * Dirty metal pool loungers without mattresses. * Unsafe umbrellas placed directly on the ground, creating a risk for children. * No service around the pool area for drinks or food. When I raised my concerns and requested to cancel the remaining nights, I was initially told it was impossible. After insisting on speaking with management, I was informed that the situation was “normal because it was not yet the season” and that pool mattresses were unavailable because they were damaged. A torn mattress was even shown to me as justification. This explanation was shocking and completely incompatible with the image of a luxury hospitality brand. Given the condition of the property and the overall experience, I decided to shorten my stay after only one night. The hotel acknowledged the issue and agreed to refund the unused nights. Amount paid: €1,280.52 Amount retained for the first night: €320.13 Refund due: €960.39 I was informed that the refund would be processed within 5 business days. Today, more than one month later, despite numerous emails, phone calls and repeated assurances that the refund has been processed, I still have not received my money. What disappoints me most is not only the condition of the hotel, but also the complete lack of follow-up and customer care afterwards. I have spent weeks chasing information, receiving promises that were never fulfilled. This experience has unfortunately damaged my trust in The Residence brand and the Cenizaro group. In fact, I cancelled a planned stay at another Residence property because I no longer felt confident in the brand’s standards or customer service. I sincerely hope the group takes this feedback seriously and resolves the refund issue without further delay."

"We spent there the night of New Year’s Eve, we were four in two rooms both were dirty (tents). One of the tents had a broken window, smelly blankets and with holes, the bathroom was scary to say the least and lots of ant nests, there wasn’t any kind of soaps and when we asked for it they brought us two little sample of just shampoo (no body gel or hand soaps) and the only towels they gave us were two hand towels. The other one had the A.C. broken and you don’t want to know how cold it gets at night. I usually don’t write many reviews but I had to make sure that people knew what they are going to find if they decide to go there. Dinner time then came… 100€ each for a “BIG NYE DINNER” that was a cold buffet with very few choices started at 7:30, by 8:30 everything was over, with no dessert. Of course the drinks were excluded and we wanted to drink some wine to celebrate (and to not think about all the disappointments) but they ran out after we ordered 2 bottles. I guess they had a total of like 7 bottles of wine. We tried to be positive and waited for the music to start since they built a stage to dance and wait for the midnight, unfortunately there were about just 10 locals having the time of their life and at 11:40 they stopped because they had to go celebrate somewhere else apparently.. basically thrown a party for them with tourists’ money. I save you the description of the breakfast. The owner of the hotel didn’t even say happy new year when she saw us, no attention to details, very poor customer service, no working WiFi and very expensive for Tunisian standards. We truly hope you don’t choose this place for your desert experience, you don’t even realize you’re in the desert because you’re in a sort of street where everybody can easily reach with their car. It was a complete let down from the first minute to the last. The only good thing was that we stayed there only one night, sadly it was a special night, being NYE."

This is not just a hotel, it is an experience, a feeling, a memory that stays with you. We cannot wait to return. I didn’t take a lot of pictures because I was living the moment lol"

"It's in the desert, so it's nice to have a place to rest. The facilities are relatively old, but they are actually very good in the local area. The air conditioning, hot water and toilets all work normally, and there is also wifi. The breakfast is filling and the swimming pool is good for swimming. It is very convenient to set off to visit the Sahara Desert and is recommended to those who come here."

"The bungalows were very basic. The overall setting lends itself well to cultural immersion and encourages a sense of escape. You couldn't be in a better place to experience the desert. My only problem was the difficulty of getting from the bus station to the hotel at night. They failed to mention that if I wanted to walk (30 minutes), a large part of the way is in complete darkness because there is no street lighting, and it's through fields and palm trees. It can be frightening for someone unfamiliar with desert environments."

"Although I've found people all over Tunisia to be incredibly kind and helpful, these are not the adjectives I'd use for the staff at the Hotel Sahara Douz, who seemed grumpy and not interested in addressing any of my questions. My room's AC was not functioning; and the room was filled with flies and mosquitoes, so I was reluctant to open the unscreened window for air flow. The walls were paper thin and it was impossible to get a good night's sleep as all one could hear were guests in the hallway or overhead, rearranging furniture."

"Pro Really beautiful and peaceful setting in the Ksar Ghilane oasis, enjoy the sunset from their watchtower The room has a real bathroom, and it's quite comfy even though the shower could do with a screen so as not to flood the living space Near the centre of action if you want to do quads or camel ride, and the original source of the oasis is just down the road Con There is no WiFi, for the range they are targeting they should look into sorting that out (Starlink?) The bedsheets are an afterthought: they don't get to cover the mattress, they're rough and also not always present (pillow covers what are these??). Moreover the thick fake fur blankets tend to be full of the sand dust The food could do with some investment. Appreciate we're in the middle of the desert but nothing stops them from bringing good meat here rather than boney and fat meat.. The receptionist wants to be anywhere but there Other tips: Arrive before sunset, the road is paved but also full of sand!!"
