"The rooms opened onto a covered walkway dotted with pairs of metal garden chairs and low tables, a surprisingly placid place considering it was adjacent to the parking strip. An outdoor grill was visible across the parking strip. Big windows lit my room with a view of the neighbors' greenery. Housekeeping was accurate and the linens were good. The bed was comfortable, but I did not get much sleep: my room had a communicating door to the next room, where someone was making noise until 3 AM with some kind of health problem. The Weekender should insulate those communicating doors. For survivability, the location was convenient to a rather unique "Farmer-Owned" grocer/diner right next door, and Shaheen's Grocery a little farther off. The Washboard laundromat-and-doughnut-shop was within decent hiking distance. Some of the guests we met were regulars dating back many years. My room had an excellent half-fridge and a coffee maker. A bottle of water was provided (the Tupper Lake municipal water does not meet state standards, but as far as I understand the risks are long-term). Communal breakfast started at 7:30. I noticed micro-yogurts, micro-muffins (about the size of donut holes; I suppose you could call them muffin holes), and juice. Staff were often bustling around and help was readily located when I sought it. The arrangement felt informal, but I applaud efforts at efficiency and sustainability-of-enterprise, and anyway, if you need an unctuous attendant behind a front desk, what are you doing in Tupper Lake? Summer climate control was provided by a large AC unit set in the rear wall. Whenever it cycled on, the lights went out for a second or two. The circuit was overloaded and no breaker tripped. Weekender should fix that before there's a fire. Tip: Don't miss the village historical museum, nearby on Park Street."
