Madarao Kogen Hotel ★★★

📍 11492-321, Iiyama

"Although it is the official hotel of the ski resort, it does not located in a best "ski in ski out" place, you literally need to take a very slow chairlift to come back hotel after you finish the run in the main area at the end of the day. Room was very old and cold, heard a group of people loudly chatting in the room above room, went upstairs to check and confirmed about it, and it was 1:30 am, while you can't find any staff at the reception, i made couple of call to lobby by the phone in the room, finally got someone the answered it, i clearly explained the situation to him, hope he would do something, but sadly those people still talking and make noise with no change, and it happened once again in the next night, sign... Besides, even if you drive here, if there is a heavy snow fall at the night, you basically stuck here in the hotel got no where to go and no shops around."

"I was looking forward to the bath, but the temperature of the hot water was hot and it was difficult to get inside. My wife said she couldn't put it in the hot water after all. There is almost no water for men in the washroom, so repair is required. As for the meal, I ate soba, but other dishes were not praised. Also, the entrance was closed in the morning bath and I couldn't enter. The futon in the room was especially heavy with blankets and felt quite damp, so I couldn't rest slowly. It seems that an elderly man is cut alone."

📍 1571-15 Teruoka, Iiyama

"The place is fantastic for family vacation. We got there by train and the resort has arranged for a complimentary pick up. The cabin is nice and warm with a full functional kitchen (except for the microwave which kept tripping the circuit breaker). We ran out of food as we under estimated our appetite during winter. Unfortunately the centre house only serve coffee and hot soup, so we have to ration our bread on our last day of stay. My boys had fun playing with the snow and built 2 snowmen (the first one was destroyed by the blizzard on the 2nd day). We rented the snow shoes and tried to go trekking but failed as the snow was too thick. However we still had fun. We spent the nights in the cabin playing card games, something we didn’t have time to do when living in the city. Really enjoying the nice scenery and the wonder white Christmas."

Madarao Elm Pension

Madarao Elm Pension ★★

📍 Madarao Kogen, Iiyama

"The hotel is close to the Banwei Plateau Ski Resort. The breakfast and dinner are also very delicious. They are cooked by the hotel couple and it feels like home."

Resort Inn Murata

Resort Inn Murata ★★

📍 6780 Toyoda, Iiyama

"The only thing to be picky about is that there is no toilet in the room, but everything else is basically OK."

Hotel Silk Inn Madarao

Hotel Silk Inn Madarao ★★★

📍 Madarao-kogen 11492-377, Iiyama

"If you are using this lodge to ski, you will need to pay 500 yen each time you leave your luggage in the locker before and after your stay (a total of 1000 yen). I have never heard of any other lodge for skiing that didn't offer free locker service. It's terrible. The evening meals are also very cheap. You can have more rice, so you can at least get full. The futon was very thin, thinner than the cushions in the room. The heating was on, so it wasn't cold even though the futon was thin. There is a large public bath, but no open-air bath. If you want to use the open-air bath, you have to pay. I think you need to rent a private open-air bath for 1650 yen for 45 minutes."

Blueberry Pension Madarao

Blueberry Pension Madarao ★★

📍 Madarao-kogen, Iiyama

"Pension Blueberry is the quintessential Japanese Pension, warm, cozy, wonderful owners and staff. A short walk to ski slopes, great breakfast and dinners. In addition there is apartment accommodation for four guests in ultra modern Japanese architect designed luxury. If you have a family or group of four ask about the apartment, it will be well worth it."

"It was a place that I couldn't go unless it was a four-wheel drive because it snowed too much. But the owner also helped me a lot in a very good atmosphere."

"One of the favourite parts of our trip. Very comfortable cabins and lovely scenery. We stayed in winter during heavy snow. A bit more complicated as a tourist as there is no food nearby and you will need to bring everything with you. We misread the booking and did not see that breakfast and dinner had to be ordered 3 days in advance so it was lucky we had some dried food with us. There are a few local restaurants, but they were closed. Good cooking facilities. Quite a way from Iiyama station, so it took a second train and a taxi trip to get there. Plan the journey carefully as we were getting anxious due to delays in getting from the station as the reception closes at 9PM sharp. Cabins slept family of 4 very comfortably. Make sure you hire the snow shoes as walking in the undressed pathway is unpleasant without them."

"A delightful stay in a comfortable authentic Japanese pension! Exceptional hosts with a warm welcome and attention to guests comfort was truly a highlight. Especially the delicious shabu hot pot dinner which my son declared the best both he has ever tasted and brimming with local fresh vegetables and generous helpings of high quality beef. My son, a vegetarian, was offered tofu without being asked and because he was a surprise addition to our booking, they made up a room for him on the spot. Stay here for a personal experience with hosts that truly care and are proud of their 40 plus years of hospitality."

"I forgot to add breakfast, so I stayed overnight without meals, but there was a convenience store nearby that sold bread, instant ramen, and alcohol, and you could eat in the common room, so it would be nice to stay with a group 😆🎵🎵 It's a shame that the toilets are shared, but I'm happy with mountain huts, so being able to go to the hot springs for this price was great (lol)"

Hotel Silk Inn Madarao ★★★
"I had an enjoyable stay here with my boyfriend for a 5 day/4 night ski trip. Although it's not a ski in ski out hotel, it's close enough to the slopes. There's also a ski rental right next door so it's super convenient. We picked the option that included breakfast, which is traditional Japanese style. Food quality is ok, but can be better. One thing I think the hotel can improve is the beds. They seem a bit outdated and the spring bed needs changing. Housekeeping service is by request, so if you need clean rooms every day, you need to tell the reception. The TV is quite small, but given we are there for a ski trip, we didn't need a nice in-room entertainment system. The best thing about this hotel is that you can request them to drive you to nearby locations free of charge."

"I stayed at this inn for the first time after learning that I could eat handmade soba noodles from Shinshu. The tatami Japanese-style room on the second floor is clean and comfortable. The toilets and sinks are shared, and each room is equipped with an individual air conditioner and heater. Although our accommodation plan included breakfast, we made reservations for dinner in advance. I chose shrimp tempura. A large serving of soba. The soba noodles are chewy and go down smoothly. The soup stock and soba go very well together. The soba is so delicious that I almost forget to eat the tempura. It was a shame that there was no open-air bath, but the indoor bath, which is a simple alkaline hot spring, made my skin smooth and smooth. The fatigue of traveling will be blown away. I was satisfied with the cost-effective inn."
